It is his idea of his 'dream game'. This is what he created and probably wants to see in the next GTA. This clear it up for you?

It may be the largest in the European Union however when it comes to Europe as a continent Moscow and Istanbul are comfortably bigger.

considering its the UK, there should definitely be a Drum and Bass / Jungle / Dubstep and maybe Grime etc etc etc radio station. And a HipHop station catering for real hiphopheads (boombap, certain semi oldschool tracks maybe some old Nas or premier beats, old wutang etc etc, underground, raw vibe etc).. with tracks from UK artists, US artists and OZ artists etc...

and a pop hiphop station with crunk, pophop etc etc etc etc.... i spooosssssseee.

UPDATE

I'll be overhauling this entire concept soon. New story. New characters. New features. New missions. The works. A lot of the current content will be replaced as well as a number of the characters.

The storyline will be more so based around an ambitious plot by scheming gangsters and megalomanic businessmen to control the redevelopment of London into the city it is today, with Canary Wharf, the Millennium Dome, everything instantly recognizable about modern London. We're going to visit the conception of these ideas in the 1980s, the decade of decadence. Through the eyes of the main character, we'll meet the wealthy, Thatcherite businessman, shagging page 3 girls two at a time on his Thames yacht, dreaming beneath the Tower Bridge of constructing these huge symbols of the power of finance, and the bullish, patriotic (ex) gangster, backing him with the muscle to show the rest of the world the finger. The choice of era is all very much based on never forgetting the past, and always keeping one eye on the future.

Here's a little teaser on characters, new and returning, and how they fit in:

user posted image
Ronnie Diamond (Bob Hoskins)

The rough diamond in the fashion of gems appearing in the IV era; make no mistake, Ron runs the bloody show. The protagonist's former employer in days gone by, Diamond has successfully furnished his East End rackets into a legitimate enterprise for the birth of the new decade. His portfolio extends to gambling in Southend and a majority stake in Dingleberries (Stringfellows) gentlemen's club, leaving the violent undertones of his operation to feared killer John Sharpe, famed as The Hoxton Butcher.

From Ronnie, the protagonist is assigned the task of keeping London's gangs in check, serving as Diamond's man on the street to ensure crime in London is both controlled and prosperous so that Diamond can successfully market the opportunity that is London and it's redevelopment to big businesses throughout the globe. Inevitably, his grand scheme fails when Ray decides to routinely wrong and play numerous gangs off of each other to supplement his own greed, leading to Ronnie's own demise.

Ronnie Diamond replaces the character of Arthur Caine.

user posted image
George Chandler (Steven Hartley)

In whole contrast to Ronnie Diamond, his conspirator George Chandler is an educated, cultured, charming being: a very smooth operator. Chandler is a wealthy, travelled businessman, returning to British homeland after a spell in Las Venturas, residing in the San Andreas state for a period of time to avoid the high level of taxation on earnings imposed in Britain. With him, he brings dreams of power, excess and grandeur, operating freely in the birth of Thatcherism. Using Mafia contacts secured in Venturas, he secures a large amount of mob finance from a connected figure known as 'Mangano' to put his dreams into action. They soon turn into a nightmare: The Family knowns the true scale of the venture and demand to see returns from their man Mangano, threatening to go as far as paying personal visits to 'see the business'.

To many, including the protagonist, Chandler promises to deliver a great deal and ultimately fails to deliver for people you don't piss about with. The Mob arrive to 'withdraw' Mangano and seek to withdraw their interest in blood, leaving George facing almost certain death, forcing him into decisions of panic betrayals with very little thought for their consequence.

George Chandler is a reincarnation of George Caine.

user posted image
D.S D.I Harry Langton (Robbie Coltrane)

A vile, monstrous man of the law, D.I Langton is famed for his high profile collars, including the conviction of "Torture Gang" Raymond Caine. Langton is a veteran within the Flying Squad, notorious behind closed doors for his sleaze and bribe taking. Somehow, he escaped the net during Operation Countryman. Some say they couldn't find a net big enough.

From the very day the protagonist leaves prison, Langton hounds, stalks and harasses Ray, determined to put him back behind bars. In time, this proves to be his downfall.

user posted image user posted image
Derrick McReary (Gabriel Byrne) Bucky Sligo (David O'Hara)

The sole returning characters from Grand Theft Auto: IV, Bucky Sligo and his companion Derrick McReary represent the threat of the Provisional IRA to Britain. Sligo, a fugitive after a daring prison escape, enacts a plan to break-in to the Bank of London, not only stealing money, but to acquire very damaging photographs of the British Royal Family which prove to be his real motive for the heist.

Unknown to the men, MI6 successfully infiltrate the group and have their plot tagged; they dispatch an operative to meet with Ray and after negotiating his 'end', plan to intercept the photographs before a smear campaign can be launched. This goes horribly wrong, pitting Ray against both Bucky and Derrick - both now desperate fugitives - backed by the IRA.

user posted image
Raymond Caine (Craig Fairbrass)
The Protagonist

Ray's role as protagonist shifts to being tasked with keeping London's gangs in line by his employer, Ronnie Diamond. With his ambitious, ruthless ways, this plan inevitably implodes: Ray routinely betrays and double-crosses the outfits under his watch to supplement his own gains, always hungry and always one step ahead of everyone else. Ray instigates conflict, rather than preventing it, causing a wave of bloodshed all over the map.

This should all be up by the end of the month. Be sure to PM me if it's late.

Other Updates:

London's Radio Dial:

Added:
John Entwistle - You're Mine
Martha & The Muffins - Echo Beach
Robin Trower - Shame The Devil
Small Faces - Wham Bam, Thank You Mam
Thin Lizzy - Ballad of a Hard Man
XTC - Towers of London

No Drum and Bass or Hip Hop, but undoubtedly the best period soundtrack on these boards. Check it out.

I love this concept, it's definitely one of my favorite out there. The little gameplay additions like car phones and extorting really get me; this would be the next Vice City if it existed. Do you plan on picking up the story any time soon? I understand if you're tied up with other things or lost interest, but I'm definitely interesting in seeing more.

I updated your weapons table to include my random suggestions that you liked, plus a few more guns I thought would fit nicely. I named them all according to manufacturer like how it will be in Liberty '78, hopefully you don't mind.

I was skeptical of the year 1982 at first as well, but after you read this topic the idea really grows on you. The cars, style, music, and everything are awesome in this topic. Then again, a contemporary London would be cool too. Something like what we see in Guy Ritchie films like Snatch and Rocknrolla...they are both great concepts for a game though and shouldn't really be compared to each other. I want both!

The idea is that the player exists in a timeframe - the 1980s - that has past and can never physically be returned to again, a map devoid of and populated only by the foundations of the modern landmarks that stand today. For the lead character to have an integral role in constructing this futuristic metropolis and to actually be part of it’s realization provides a far, far more enriching gameplay experience than one or any that could be achieved from applying the same story to any present-day setting.

Made a few post worthy updates today, in the form of removing and revamping the Characters section, temporally pulling the soundtrack and the addition of in-game Television. You can directly view these by clicking the appropriate graphic below:

user posted image user posted image

Hopefully members from the UK will be able to relate to the content of the television shows.

What I am hoping to achieve with the updated character section are individual biographies that can eventually be accessed by following links that will be embedded in the pictures of certain characters. Here, information and the biographies of them and their associates will be posted, breaking down the sheer amount of text that once took up that entire post on the front page. Not only will this hopefully attract some more followers when I eventually get back into this, but the whole concept instantly becomes a lot more accessible and interactive.

This is also behind me posting up the music playlists you will find by following the Media Content link; with a 200+ strong soundtrack, it's simply too big to be sampled. With the two smaller tracklists, anyone who wants to immerse themselves fully in the idea of this concept can do so knowing that each track represents the unique sound of a 1982 setting, or plainly enjoy some decent music while browsing the content. Also added is a theme tune, the aptly named "Theme For Great Cities" by Simple Minds.

Everyone can also make use of the contents table that I have included on the first post. It functions a bit like a tube map: click any one of the small headers below the logo to redirect to a specific section!

Keep checking back for updates icon14.gif

I'm aware the gangs were quite popular, and that pages have been passed discussing them, but the character bios received little to no recognition. I attribute this to them being a 5,000+ word block of text spare on the fancy images. As concise as they were and despite the work, they just weren't inviting to read, so I decided on applying this new practise of making them interactive in the hope of presenting a more user-friendly experience. The content won't be at all dumbed down, just dissected into smaller parts to more easily be digested.

Fear not though, the gangs won't be neglected. They'll be expanded. wink.gif
