Has GTA 2 been modded to allow saving anywhere?

I would like to know if someone in the GTA 2 community has been able to cook up a mod that will allow you to save anywhere? Or at least an easier way to save than driving to the church and paying up money? Or is it still "Damnation! No donation, no salvation!" ? sigh.gif

It hasn't been done. It could be done for the Industrial level but other levels don't have the code available, so it would be much harder.

I think it would be possible to make it save your current progress when you select a certain weapon or hold the horn for a a long time. Loading the game would always start you outside the church as usual and there's no easy way to change that.

The coordinates used in PERFORM_SAVE_GAME are used when game is loaded, so if you set them to, for example, X 5.6, Y 7.8, Z 2.0, player would spawn at those coordinates after saved game loaded

It would be even more useful to find a way to store cars. Unfortunately...

Changing player starting position is easy.
I guess saving also... I just haven't tried it.

But when you walk into church, what script commands it has there?
To save game, you have to actually gotta go to other side of the church in BIL map
and the it saves and quits to menu.

Perform_save_game in bil.mis points to the door below (not the upper).
But the door upper?

How is the MONEY value set in the script?
I mean how much money the church will take?

Is there a script command for that?


chapapote, what do you mean by store cars?
In church?

the upper door coordinates are used in the thread trigger to check if player has entered it. PERFORM_SAVE_GAME ( trigger name , X , Y , Z , width , height ) starts the player at X, Y+2.0, Z after loading the savegame so that's why bil.mis' PERFORM_SAVE_GAME has the bottom door's coords

I guess with saving cars chapapote meant something like the GTA3+ safehouse garages where you can park cars and save them

Yep the lack of it is one of the most f*cking annoying things in GTA2. ph34r.gif
