Animated Text Logo Tutorial.
By Tommy-Vercetti19

Note, this is my first tutorial, so sorry for the quality/lack of detail. I will continue to improve this over time.

Hey there guys, here's a tutorial requested from various people from the visual arts forum.
It's very simple to do. Plus this effect can be applied to everything. smile.gif

Here's what our end product will be.
user posted image

Step 1.

Open Photoshop and for now i'm simply using a 500 x 200 with a black background.

user posted image

Step 2.

With a font type in whatever you want. For now i'm typing in Graham with the Boulder font.

user posted image

Step 3.

Now do whatever you want with your text, for now i'm just going to add a gradient overlay.

user posted image

Step 4.

Now create a new rectangle shape

user posted image

Step 5. (OPTIONAL!)

If you like, add some Gaussian blur to the shape to make it more light like.
user posted image

Step 6.

Now load the selection of the text layer and create a layer mask.

user posted image

user posted image

Step 7.

Make sure the shape layer is NOT LINKED TO THE LAYER MASK and the original layer is selected not the mask.

user posted image

Step 8.

Now were onto the animation part! (the best part tounge.gif )

Make sure the animation window is loaded by going to Window - Animation and it should pop up down the bottom.
user posted image

Now make sure the shape layer is not visible just to the left of the text.
user posted image

Step 9.

Now make sure the time-line is at the start set a key-frame at position.

user posted image

Then, move ahead on the time-line to about 1:50f and drag the shape layer across to the other side.

user posted image

Step 10.

Now hit playback, your all done! Just make sure to bring the master length down to suit your length of the GIF.
Then go to File - Save for web & devices and your sorted.

Once you understand the basic animation techniques, anything is possible! biggrin.gif

Easy tutorial to follow. Very simple stages. A handy guide to have to make impressive avatars/sigs. Nice one!

Indeed great tutorial icon14.gif ,
you should also add the step where you make the timeline smaller, for the fellows around here who try to learn animation
since the anim is going to end and there is gonna be allot of empty space...

Great work! Good to see people are still chipping in, this section has lost some of the steam it once had.

Excuse me if this is a stupid question, but would this work with Photoshop CS4 Portable?

I've done all steps so far up until the animation part. I can't find the timeline/frame animation toggle button anywhere!

Try pressing this:

and selecting "Convert to timeline" in the dropdown menu.

If that doesn't work, than I guess you're in trouble.

By the way, great tutorial TommyVercetti. icon14.gif Very detailed and clear.
