I'm thorn between CJ and Tommy but since CJ's goals were actually noble and he did accomplish more than Tommy in the end I have to go with him. Honorable mention to Vic Vance, the only non-criminal character thrown in the life of crime.

When did we ever play as a Russian?

Gonna have to go with Niko as he strikes me as the most fleshed out character.

Victor Vance for me. The GTA character with whom I have spent the most time over the past 4 years. Always struck me as a bit of a moaning bitch, but so do Niko, CJ and others. So Vic Vance for me.

Also I swear there is another topic for this somewhere, probably buried deep inside the V? section.

It is hard to choose between CJ and Claude. But I chose CJ because SA is my favourite game of all time and you could dress CJ with different cool clothes and gear. Claude is probably the coolest protagonist though.

Niko was cool but they f*cked it up on his voice acting and script. Some of the things he says in certain tones is just ridiculus. I mean, I don't know why they didn't get a real Eastern Euro to do his voice and give him some authenticity. Also when Niko comes over he's totally fluent in English but not even English - American English with lots of Americanisms. Can't think of an example but I'm sure he says "Get OFF-OF" and stuff like it. Just reaks of laziness. Then again, most people probably wouldn't notice but I love a good game or film with real local actors rather than folks drafted in from somewhere completely different and asked to do an immitation.

Knee jerk nolstalgia had me wanting to click Vercetti or Claude Speed but as previously said, Niko was probably one of the most fleshed out and well written characters within any of the GTA games, all "lost in translation" oversites aside. I genuinely laughed at jokes between him and his cousin, vibed with his easy going candor in more ridiculous parts and felt his genuine anger and frustration during moments of exacting vengence. I have very little in common with him but idetified with his reasoning and reactions and felt like I actually got to know him to some significant degree before the credits rolled, so there's the vote.

If I had the choice of 2 it would definitely be Tommy and CJ but in this case i'd have to go with CJ just purely because of all the crazy sh*t he had to do in San Andreas.

Voted Tommy Vercetti, because he is the protagonist that I believe symbolizes Grand Theft Auto the most. His tale was one of ascent and power with plenty of violence inbetween. That he has the balls to break away from his boss when it becomes apparent he cannot do anything to stop him setting up his own business, that he murders the town's top drug baron not just out of vengeance but to also take over his empire as the basis of his own, and that he ultimately slays anyone that opposes him with the smallest amount of regret makes him my favourite GTA protagonist.

Ray Liotta did a smashing job too.

I played every GTA (without 1,2 and Advanced) and Tommy would be my second choice, after Niko and Luis. Sure he is bad a55 and all, but I like Niko more, cause at some moments I really felt bad for him. I wanted to kill that special someone myself. Nikos story really drove me in. I hadnīt that experience with Tommy.

^^Totally agreed. Tommy is a f*cking GTA Legend. CJ and Niko are not even good enough to suck his cock.

Hardwood Butcher, hands down. Dude was a f*cking stone cold killer, and a business man who was all about the money. Which is all that matters in GTA games. Damn shame we couldn't get a real closer with his story.
