CharmingCharlie Impersonates Rod Sterling

There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man.
It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity.
It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition,
and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge.
This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone.

I came across this little nugget on the BBC news website today, I personally do not know what to make of it. If this clip is legit then you have to wonder just what is going on.

QUOTE (Beeb News)
George Clarke from east Belfast has been puzzled for more than a year by a scene in a film which appears to show a woman talking on a mobile phone.

The unusual thing is that the movie was made by Charlie Chaplin in 1928 - long before mobile phones were invented.

source

Here is the clip, see for yourself :-

Is it really someone using a mobile phone in 1928 ? is it an iphone ? a Blackberry ? or even an Android phone ? We just don't know, all scientists can say for sure is that if this is someone "time travelling" then they sure as hell have the intelligence to not use a new Windows 7 phone tounge.gif

It doesn't even f*cking look like she's holding a phone. Looks more like she is itching her temple or talking to her schizophrenic alter-ego. Idiot.

That's a woman? mercie_blink.gif

And, to tell the truth, I really don't even see a phone. It just looks like she(he?)'s holding her(his?)hand up to her(his?)face.

It's not a bloody phone it's a hearing device. There was a hearing device in that period that resembles the cell phone when you look at it from afar. Also, that scene is not from the movie it's in the bonus DVD in behind the scenes so it could have been faked for this purpose alone.

Not itching, her fingers don't seem to move. And she seems to be holding something.

But could be anything.

When I take a look closer it really doesn't look like she'd itching, but it also doesn't look like she is holding anything. My latter theory still stands.

It reminded me more of that henchperson that looks neither like a man or a woman from the Lemony Snicket books.

As was said its likely she's just doing something that looks like the well-known to us 21st Century folk the classic talking on a mobile thing. That or we are seeing one of Doctor Who's companions with their inter time & space superphones!

Well if she had the technology to time travel then she could probably get reception from the future too. orly.gif

I don't know what to make of this. I guess we can't ask that woman now since it's been too long.

Definately this right here. I don't think anything close to cellphone towers existed in 1928. Also, phone lines back then definately wouldn't work with a cell phone (assuming that she would be calling somebody). If that would be the case, then that would be a heavily modified phone. Not only that, but I still have high doubts about time travel (to the past that is) being even remotely possible.

Okay so lets say it's an epic highly sophisticated phone from the future tounge.gif
Would she walk with something so unique like that on the street ? And let her self appear on a movie too ?

I'm not like totally blocking the idea, Her fingers is in a phone holding pose, And at the end she clearly talks...
Maybe it was a hearing device, And somebody from the movie set told her something when she turned to the camera, And that's why they ended this scene kinda fast before she totally pass the camera view.
But hearing aids at this era were pretty big i guess and she should have held it differently.

It is damn weird... you should check out this video too, the guy who's studied the film for over a year and he still can't put his finger on it:

@Freak: Could be that, don't think it is though.

Well, you see, the thing here is, the Internet, radio, cell phone networks? They've been there for centuries. They're basically natural resources that we're using. Somewhere in orbit around Earth is a natural satellite that can transmit all of the pornography on the internet if and only if you can connect to it and decode its signal. Same with cell phones: You can use them at any point in time, but they were created only recently.

It's not the only thing he couldn't put his finger on if he spent a whole year with this crap tbh.

It's obvious that the person in question doesn't want her face to be filmed and that's why she holds her hand against her face/covering most of her face. Yes, she doesn't put her hand in front of her face... but to the side. Why? They are filming her while she walks PAST.

Obvious... obvious... and a guy spent a whole year on this crap?

I love how this guy's mind works: person seen in the background of an old film with hand held to face, therefore they're a timetraveller. It's obviously a hearing aid if anything.

Besides, who would they even be talking to? Do future service providers somehow offer signal through time?

Is it really someone using a mobile phone in 1928 ? is it an iphone ? a Blackberry ? or even an Android phone ?

Why would she be using ancient mobile devices?

What I mean is, that's current technology. Now, does current technology exist that allows one to time travel? No? Then we can assume that the woman is from further into the future.

Ergo; iPhones are like....like....[really old sh*t no one uses anymore] to them. Fill in the blank. My choice is 'mail'.

cause, you know, people don't use mail anymore. To speak to others, I mean.

Anyway, even if it was time travel, it would be/will be corrected in 3...2....1...

Oh, we still know about this? We still suspect time travel? Then it isn't time travel.

Any event in the past can be changed if you travel through time. So if this change has just been discovered and the future police deem it dangerous, they will simply travel back in time, get that woman out of there, and she won't appear on the film. Not appearing means that that guy, in the 2010, will have no woman to see.

Of course, it could be a matter of time until this event is changed and we remember nothing of it (since this conversation will never have taken place-and we wouldn't realize/know it since events changed so that it never happened to begin with). Hell, there could have been a fire in my house at this time, but someone from the future came, changed events, and made it so that it never happened. Events took a different turn and reality changed.

By the way, this is a load of bullsh*t and I'm simply having fun with how time travel might work. Yeah, she's no time traveler.

I have been following this story on some of the nutball websites and so far the "accepted" theory is that it is further proof of a 911/crop circle/alien invasion/cloud seeding/ fake moon landing scenario orchestrated by Obama tounge.gif .

Now for those going "hey there are no cell towers so a mobile won't work" this could be a crack time travelling team sent back in a coordinated effort to undermine our existence tounge.gif . If you cracked the lil issue of time travel I don't think you are going to let the lack of cell towers get in the way of communicating with your Cyberdyne 1000 robot and telling him to put the kettle on.

Now obviously rational minds win out here and it is beyond impossible that this is a time traveller that just decided to phone their mates and go "wasssuppp". However there is nothing wrong with having a bit of a "flight of fantasy", at any rate we will probably never know why this woman/man/thing was striking a pose that looks eerily familiar in this day and age

um.... what!?

lemme see if I got it right, you're saying that a natural satelite, like the Moon, already held Internet/phone/TV networks for centuries before we created devices to use them?

ON: let's get creative, folks, what about if someone from the movie staff decided: "well, let's make a scene with a person talking to a mobile object, like we do to our phones, just to make people 80 years in the future go batcrack crazy with it and create thousands of mad conspiracy theories about it"

I bet she was like, damn no network coverage, I wonder why that would be.... oh wait that completely destroys the time travel theory, doesn't it?
