Then take me disappearin’ through the smoke rings of my mind
Down the foggy ruins of time, far past the frozen leaves
The haunted, frightened trees, out to the windy beach
Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow
Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free
Silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands
With all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves
Let me forget about today until tomorrow

Dylan's "Mr. Tambourine Man" can be overplayed sometimes, but hell with a final verse as legit as this it doesn't matter. But really any number of his tunes could be put in this topic.

My love she speaks like silence
Without ideals or violence
She doesn’t have to say she’s faithful
Yet she’s true, like ice, like fire
People carry roses
Make promises by the hours
My love she laughs like the flowers
Valentines can’t buy her

In the dime stores and bus stations
People talk of situations
Read books, repeat quotations
Draw conclusions on the wall
Some speak of the future
My love she speaks softly
She knows there’s no success like failure
And that failure’s no success at all

Got more soul

Set the stage with a goal
To have the game locked in a cage
Getting shocked with a pole

There are some little sections and lines from a few songs that I've had my mind around, lately:

"Push Button" by Stolen Babies
The more you believe, the less that you think.
The less that you think, the more that you speak.
The more that you speak, the less that you see.
The less that you see, the more you believe.

"Centipede" by Shaolin Death Squad
Look at the centipede as he crawls around on the ground.
Moving in darkness, his legs find prey without a sound.

"Pandora's Musical Box" by Mind's Eye
The way that you use the bible priest,
smashing my face with discipline.

QUOTE (GTABlackKnight)
Without lyrics, a song would be boring

I must disagree with this statement. If you rip away the vocals from a song that already exists, then of course it will probably be boring to hear. But the voice is only one mode of musical expression. There are a lot of instrumental works that don't abide by today's standard rock song form; you have to open yourself up to different genres. Bands that really let out a ton of expression through musical instruments (a lot of today's guitar solos go for speed rather than musicality) rather than voice are out there, you just have to find them! The media (and 15 year old girls) despise change!

Without lyrics it would be called a tune. And instrumental music is not boring at all, quite the contrary, a song is likely to be less complex than a tune because it has to fit with the lyrics.

Just remembered a song:
"Adhesive" by Stone Temple Pilots

My friend Blue he runs the show
It's hot pink purple china glow
His family trees are molded
No longer grows in summer
He holds it closer
Lets it go
Picks a fruit but keeps it whole
Can't keep the submarining
Can't keep the light from fading

Grab the hate and drown it out
Grab the beat and drum it out
It's all so confusing

Ain't the same for you and me
Cartoon-like reality
Dogs and cats and children
The deepest wound is hidden
Ain't the same for you or me
Comatose commodity
The superhero's dying
All the children crying

Sell more records if I'm dead
Purple flowers once again
Hope it's sooner
Hope it's near
Corporate records' fiscal year

Down the river
Down the river

Have a listen
Lend an ear
Here's a song now if you care
I'll just hum along
Words don't matter anymore
Grab the hate and drown it out
Grab the beat and drum it out
It's all so confusing

Adhesive love
Adhesive
Adhesive love
Adhesive love
Adhesive
Adhesive love

Flying high across the plain
Purple flowers ease the pain
Here now have a listen
Ain't the songs you're missing

Down the river
Down the river

Stitch the womb and wet the bed
With a whisper I'll be dead
Don't let the living die yet
Grab the hate and drown it out
Grab the beat and drum it out
It's all so confusing

Adhesive love
Adhesive
Adhesive love
Adhesive love
Adhesive
Adhesive love
Yeah
Yeah

Very mellow.

I've been drawn into this song like a drug addict to cocaine. It's a little weird, and some people complain that the accordion doesn't fit in. If you ask me, it actually does well in complementing the other instruments and achieving a dark, unique atmosphere.

I can see the lifeless, I can feel the darkness under you
I can see behind me
I can try to hide it but without a will to see the truth
I can feel a heartbeat slowing to nothing

Why don’t I go when I know there’s nothing I should want here?
Why do I stay when I know there’s nothing I should say?

As I stand behind you, lost in all the things that I would do
Never really with you, quietly halfway in the room
Do you see behind you, do you see behind you?

Why don’t I go tell me why do I stay when
I know there’s nothing I should want here?
Why don’t I go tell me why do I stay
when there’s nothing you can see?
Why don’t I go tell me why do I stay when
I know there’s nothing I should say?
Why don’t I go tell me why do I stay when
I know there’s nothing for me here?

How I see you now is all wrong
With my hands full and it’s all wrong
And I shouldn’t have looked ‘cause now I can’t look away

Why don’t I go tell me why do I stay when
I know there’s nothing I should want here?
Why don’t I go tell me why do I stay
when there’s nothing you can see?
Why don’t I go tell me why do I stay when
I know there’s nothing I should say?
Why don’t I go tell me why do I stay when
I know there’s nothing for me here?

"Long ago, I wandered trough my mind...
In the land of fairy tales and stories.
Lost in happiness, I knew no fears,
Innocence and love was all I knew

Was it illusion?

Soon the days were passing into years...
Happiness just didn't come so easy,
Life was more than fairy tales and daydreams.
Innocence was just another word...

Was it illusion?"

I'm bumping this topic in a cheating kind of way.

Brief background(that you may not understand) - Some people here at GTAF call me a hippie, but to be more precise, I am a Deadhead hippie. There are books written on traveling with the Grateful Dead, so if you really need to know...feel free to read. Or get lazy and watch a documentary. I spent years being one of those people who traveled with the band.

There is no explaining what we had, and there is no way to relay how missed it is.

Every so often memories sneak up on me. Great memories that make me sad, yet smile with a tear in my eye.

I would love to offer up a real version, but there would be less of a chance of anyone here listening to it over a studio version. The song popped into my head, so I pulled up a version from 'my' years to listen to. It pains me to offer up the studio version. anyway....

If you like lyrics - listen away.

QUOTE ( NOFX - My Vagina)
My vagina has two sets of lips
But I don't get monthly blood drips
My vagina hardly even used

My vagina's got lots of extra skin
They took my outtie and made it an in
Changing Donnie to Marie Osmond

Operation successfull
But now I gotta pee
Through a miniature hole
Gotta remember to put the seat down
And when I wipe my ass
I go from front to back
Cause I don't want a bladder infection

I never thought I'd miss my vas deferans
I traded it in for a pair of huge cans
Now I get to hang with lesbians

Operation paid up front
Now I show all my friends
My new designer c*nt
They think I'm kinda weird
But that's OK with me
Cause now I kick their ass
Playing from the ladies tee
Theres nothing finer than having a vagina

Try listening to Instrumental rock and Neo Classical metal for example. You'll change your mind quickly....Only if you listen to Justin Bieber or rap crap, then you won't change your mind.

Listen to Joe Satriani's Always with me, always with you song.
Jason Becker's Altitudes.

You'll see what I'm talking about. Music doesn't have to have lyrics to be emotional and interesting.

The sky is falling.
Got to tell the king.
The sky is falling and everything.
The sun come down.
Tell us a story.
The sun come down.
Tell us a long story.
If I break my hand…

The sky is falling.
Got to tell the king.
The sun come down and everything shine – (Don’t save me) –

Think I lost my keys.
It’s a disaster.
If I sold my car.
We could get there faster.
If I take your hand, we could start walking.
If I kiss your mouth, we could stop talking.
If I break your heart, we could get there faster.
If I lost my mind, it’s only plaster.
If I break my hand, I could get there faster.
If I lost your mouth, it’s only plaster.

The sky is falling.
Got to tell the king.
The sky is falling and everything shine – (Don’t save me) –
Chicken Little,
Ducky Lucky,
Henny Penny,
Goosey Loosey,
Turkey Lurkey…
And Foxy Loxy…
Maybe Foxy Loxy wants to come too.

Hazy…need some nourishment…
Feed me some delectable time
Feed me tasty impulsions
Gear-wheels all shouting in unison: FEED ME !!!!

Destabilization of the gapless mechanism: C-O-M-P-L-E-T-E
You must be aware that I drag the past, grab your map and reign supreme
I swing the currents…Hypnotize…
Carry on…carry on…
Don’t ignore me…

Hull is breached
This inner sanctum is being bleached
The unfed pendulum is starved

It was in Limbo…doing the eternal Mambo
…and I screamed…and I screamed…and I screamed for lunch
Not a Tick, not a Tock, not a Tick-Tock snack to be found
( Where was the Cuckoo ??? )

El takidnys sed selliugia
El takidnys sed selliugia eralced (enu everg)
Numbers on strike

Hull is breached
This inner sanctum is being bleached
The unfed pendulum is starved

Mathematical cartilage of the eternal spin
Too busy to care
The engine disintegrates and disrupt the circular ritual
Devour life, feed the clock ( ME!!), dance with a dead corpse
and don’t forget to remove your boots ( politeness !! )
This biological network filed an official complaint
at the “Mental Misconduct” Department on floor 404
__File not found __

Hecatomb of a wavering signal…
Slipping between the keys, being nothing more than a presence on hiatus…
…waiting for some inputs…vacuumed by life…
…but my life is safe…

Emptiness took my hand to ease me
Imagine stillness, but even slower
Immaterial massage, pizzicato of the cortex
Motions vibrating between inaccurate time spheres

I move on the bomb of my memories
Squeeze the motives tormenting this surface

Odd band. Odd, poetic lyrics. But damn it sounds good. icon14.gif

Not my favorite, but this song has a bunch of punchlines:

[Eye-Kyu:] Now what you know about a sweet MC, from the 313
None of these skills you bout to see come free
So you wanna be a sweet MC, you gotta become me
If you ever wanna be one see

[Eminem:] Man what you know about a sweet MC, in the 313
None of these skills you bout to see come free
So you wanna be a sweet MC, you better become me
If you ever wanna be one see

[Verse 1: Eye-Kyu]
Yo some people say I'm whack, now if that's right
I'm the freshest whack MC that you ever heard, in your lifetime
My slick accapella sounds clever with the beats
Boy I'm the deepest thing since potholes to ever hit the streets
Forgot a gold digger's succubus , my souls thick with ruggedness
With the mic I'm like a dyke, can't no nigga f*ck with this
I got more Different Strokes than Philip Drummound
On open mic I bone your women just to keep my lyrics coming (bitch)
We elevated to new heights premeditated
Let it be that I stated they hate it now that they see that I made it
The escalated can be put to the test of greatness
Snatch the heart from MC's and I ate it
So I take it that's the reason I'm hated
To represent my temperment
If rap was a dick all you so called hard MC's would not be impitant
But pimping it, and acting like you could rock a show (so)
Harder than LL's Rock the Bells, but you is a ho (now)
Everything that you collaborate I lacerate
My rhymes they keep coming like nympho maniacs that masturbate
At a faster rate, yeah I got something for your ass to hate
I blasterate, and have you all running master gates
And as for face clutching and touching the flows
I got them open like marijuana smoke up in your nose
Bucking these hoes, I got that sh*t down to a science
Leaving them hot and bothered, turned on like an appliance
Defiance, no we won't have that
You want your sh*t to blow up?
Well I'ma stuff some dynamite in your ass crack
And blast that sh*t to kingdom come
Then bring them some of this real hip-hop
I drop beats and you ain't singing or gonna do a thing about
And you all knew from Meeko
That you couldn't hold your own with the strength of Lou Forigno
So stop that bullsh*t and flow
Yo, you need to come with the real skills, and act like you know

[Chorus: Eminem]
So what you know about a sweet MC, in the 313
None of these skills you bout to see come free
So you wanna be a sweet MC, you better become me
If you ever wanna be one see

[Eye-Kyu:] Now what you know about a sweet MC, from the 313
None of these skills you bout to see come free
So you wanna be the sweet MC, you gotta become me
If you ever wanna be one see

[Verse 2: Eminem]
So what, you know about a sweet MC, in the 313
You don't know sh*t so when you see one flee
You can be Run-D, you'll never beat the MC
I'll stop the alphabet at S and got it down to a T
I'm sure your bound to agree, a sweet MC crashes the spot
I'll make the roof hot like I was Rock Master Scott
Your ass forgot, so just in case you don't remember me
I'll run your brain around the block to jog your f*cking memory
It's either them or me man, kill or be killed
You will and be sealed your casket closed you still gonna be billed
My facilities filled with fans, packed to capacity
I'll send a rapper back with the crack of his ass sh*tty
If he's acting soft and he cowers
He better come cleaner then Jay Rue jacking off when he showers
You flowers got no clout with a thing
You could date a stick of dynamite and wouldn't go out with a bang
I showered the slang, simple as A,B,C's
Skip over the D's and rock the microphone with E's
Dethrone MC's and I'ma max alone
Relax your dome like a solo from a saxophone
So facts are known, writers get treated with shocks
I rock a beat harder then you could beat it with rocks
I'm greeted with flocks, of fellow follower's singers
You couldn't make the fans throw up their hands if they swallowed their
fingers
But you can bring yours let's see what you got
But don't front and never try to be what you're not
Cause you can be quick, jump the candlestick, burn your back
And f*ck Jill on a hill, but you still ain't Jack

[Chorus: Eye-Kyu]
So what you know about a sweet MC, from the 313
None of these skills you just seen come free
So you wanna be a sweet MC, you'll never become

I'm going to make this easy so people may actually read the lyrics.

I'm a huge Devo fan, and you may not know that the bulk of their old songs are weird and oddly sexual.

Here is a wacky incest bit from the song 'I Been Refused':
Bought a Kodak brownie*
Develop film at home
Took some shots of sister
Pants were full of foam

Took a couple back views
Took some up front
Three tries, wallet size
I was looking at that c*nt

*for you youngsters, a Kodak brownie = the first instant film camera available long before digital cams.

Feel free to expand you mind and enjoy the whole song

I'm in a positive mood so I'll choose something uplifting with "Unity" by Devin the Dude.

My talk is slightly different and my walk is not the same
I can't pronounce a couple words that's in the dictionary, man
I know it's easier to call me names than to understand my nature
You and me might disagree but that don't mean I have to hate you
Take some time to talk to someone who has a totally different culture
You just might learn something new, it ain't gonna hurt ya
To collaborate, combinate and ya'll can make the change
Instead of fighting each other cause your life is so plain

(Now he got his thang and you got yours
She got hers since the day she was born)
So we all got to get a long cause ain't nobody better than the next
No matter what race, color, creed, or sex
But you can better yourself by listening to others
And what they got to offer treat them like sisters and brothers
Love them even though you disapprove sometimes
We all have faults I know I got mines

Michael Jackson They Dont Care About Us

Skin head, dead head
Everybody gone bad
Situation, aggravation
Everybody allegation
In the suite, on the news
Everybody dog food
Bang bang, shot dead
Everybody's gone mad

All I wanna say is that
They don't really care about us
All I wanna say is that
They don't really care about us

Beat me, hate me
You can never break me
Will me, thrill me
You can never kill me
Jew me, Sue me
Everybody do me
Kick me, Kike me
Don't you black or white me

All I wanna say is that
They don't really care about us
All I wanna say is that
They don't really care about us

Tell me what has become of my life
I have a wife and two children who love me
I am the victim of police brutality, now
I'm tired of bein' the victim of hate
You're rapin' me of my pride
Oh, for God's sake
I look to heaven to fulfill its prophecy...
Set me free

Skin head, dead head
Everybody gone bad
trepidation, speculation
Everybody allegation
In the suite, on the news
Everybody dog food
black man, black male
Throw your brother in jail

All I wanna say is that
They don't really care about us
All I wanna say is that
They don't really care about us

Tell me what has become of my rights
Am I invisible because you ignore me?
Your proclamation promised me free liberty, now
(From: http://www.elyrics.n...us-lyrics.html)
I'm tired of bein' the victim of shame
They're throwing me in a class with a bad name
I can't believe this is the land from which I came
You know I do really hate to say it
The government don't wanna see
But if Roosevelt was livin'
He wouldn't let this be, no, no

Skin head, dead head
Everybody gone bad
Situation, speculation
Everybody litigation
Beat me, bash me
You can never trash me
Hit me, kick me
You can never get me

All I wanna say is that
They don't really care about us
All I wanna say is that
They don't really care about us

Some things in life they just don't wanna see
But if Martin Luther was livin'
He wouldn't let this be, no, no

Skin head, dead head
Everybody gone bad
Situation, segregation
Everybody allegation
In the suite, on the news
Everybody dog food
Kick me, Kike me
Don't you wrong or right me

All I wanna say is that
They don't really care about us
All I wanna say is that
They don't really care about us

All I wanna say is that
They don't really care about us
(they keep me on fire)
All I wanna say is that
They don't really care about us
(I'm here to remind you)

All I wanna say is that
They don't really care about us
All I wanna say is that
They don't really care about us

i can see this easily turning into a thread with 100 pages that no one ever takes the time to read, especially as a number of you have already decided to post several hundred words at a time.

let's keep this simple -- this hook was on my mind today, and has been off and on for a few years, since i first heard it:

turn the light on
wait, wait

( Believer, from 'A Moment In Prime' )

and BTW - there are many many entire genres full of beautiful music that have no lyrics whatsoever, so i absolutely disagree with the idea that music needs them - but agree wholeheartedly that they're important. what you listen to seeps into your head and affects the way you think, act and feel, no matter what you may tell yourself differently. don't fill your head with crap - take it from someone who's probably 3x older than the majority of the forum - music is more powerful than you probably imagine.

No instrumentals. I really liked the first two. Do you know anymore like that?

I can't realy decide which one of my favourite songs have bad lyrics. But then I tought about one Evanescence's song. I don't know exactly why.
So, I guess this is my favourite lyrics. One of them, of course.

"(...)Fear is only in our minds
Taking over all the time
(...)"

I like all lyrics of Eminem's songs. Anyway, if I start searching, it will take me one day to find all my favourite lyrics.

Amazing video to accompany this song and lyrics. I wish they made more videos like this. Like more abstract or more arty kind of shorts with a little story that keeps you guessing: "what's going on" a bit like that Radiohead video there the guy is on the ground.

Anyway here are the lyrics and video...

wrong

wrong

wrong

wrong

I was born with the wrong sign
In the wrong house
With the wrong ascendancy
I took the wrong road
That led to the wrong tendencies
I was in the wrong place at the wrong time
For the wrong reason and the wrong rhyme
On the wrong day of the wrong week
I used the wrong method with the wrong technique

Wrong

Wrong

There's something wrong with me chemically
Something wrong with me inherently
The wrong mix in the wrong genes
I reached the wrong ends by the wrong means
It was the wrong plan
In the wrong hands
The wrong theory for the wrong man
The wrong eyes on the wrong prize
The wrong questions with the wrong replies

Wrong

Wrong
[From: http://www.elyrics.n...ong-lyrics.html]

I was marching to the wrong drum
With the wrong scum
Pissing out the wrong energy
Using all the wrong lines
And the wrong signs
With the wrong intensity
I was on the wrong page of the wrong book
With the wrong rendition of the wrong look
With the wrong moon, every wrong night
With the wrong tune playing till it sounded right yeah

Wrong

Wrong

I was born with the wrong sign
In the wrong house
With the wrong ascendancy
I took the wrong road
That led to the wrong tendencies
I was in the wrong place at the wrong time
For the wrong reason and the wrong rhyme
On the wrong day of the wrong week
I used the wrong method with the wrong technique

"if i knew the way

i would take you home"

( The Grateful Dead, from 'Ripple' )

Look hi atop this page and you will notice I posted the whole studio version of the song.

Robert Hunter(wrote almost all of the Dead's lyrics) is great for lyrics.
From Talkin' Money Tree:
After awhile I got so board I just gave the whole thing back
All I kept was a bar and grill by the northbound railroad tracks
You can stop by here anytime of night
Or any time of day
The second cup of coffee's free..., but the first one... you've got to pay.

It is under a minute long. Expand your mind and give it a listen - It is a cute song.

Reminded me of A Boy Named Sue, the sound and style. Nice little song though.

Simon & Garfunkels songs always paint this great imagery in head.

Writen by Paul Simon: America

"Let us be lovers we'll marry our fortunes together."
"I've got some real estate here in my bag."
So we bought a pack of cigarettes and Mrs. Wagner pies
And we walked off to look for America

"Kathy," I said as we boarded a Greyhound in Pittsburgh
"Michigan seems like a dream to me now"
It took me four days to hitchhike from Saginaw
I've gone to look for America

Laughing on the bus
Playing games with the faces
She said the man in the gabardine suit was a spy
I said "Be careful his bowtie is really a camera"

"Toss me a cigarette, I think there's one in my raincoat"
"We smoked the last one an hour ago"
So I looked at the scenery, she read her magazine
And the moon rose over an open field

"Kathy, I'm lost," I said, though I knew she was sleeping
I'm empty and aching and I don't know why
Counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike
They've all gone to look for America
All gone to look for America
All gone to look for America

[font=arial]Another favourite of mine....

Expecting To Fly - Buffalo Springfield

There you stood on the edge of your feather,
Expecting to fly.
While I laughed, I wondered whether
I could wave goodbye,
Knowin' that you'd gone.
By the summer it was healing,
We had said goodbye.
All the years we'd spent with feeling
Ended with a cry,
Babe, ended with a cry,
Babe, ended with a cry.

I tried so hard to stand
As I stumbled and fell to the ground.
So hard to laugh as I fumbled
And reached for the love I found,
Knowin' it was gone.
If I ever lived without you,
Now you know I'll die.
If I ever said I loved you,
Now you know I tried,
Babe, now you know I tried.
Babe, now you know I tried,
Babe.

My favorite song is All Along The Watchtower. I don't know what it is but it just seems so true. Originally written and played by Bob Dylan in 66' (if memory serves me right) then covered by Jimi Hendrix in 68'. It's said that Hendrix was a huge Bob Dylan fan, does explain why he took a great song by in my opinion on of the greatest song writers along with one of the worst singers ever and covered it into something that is truly an epic. Unfortunately Hendrix died a few years later in 1970. He will always remain the only one who can truly play this song the way it's meant to be played.

All Along The Watchtower:
"There must be some kind of way out of here,"
Said the joker to the thief,
"There's too much confusion,
I can't get no relief.
Businessman they drink my wine,
Plowman dig my earth
None will level on the line, nobody offered his word, hey"

"No reason to get excited,"
The thief, he kindly spoke
"There are many here among us
Who feel that life is but a joke
But you and I, we've been through that
And this is not our fate
So let us not talk falsely now, the hour is getting late"

All along the watchtower
Princes kept the view
While all the women came and went
Barefoot servants, too

Outside in the cold distance
A wildcat did growl
Two riders were approaching
And the wind began to howl
*buisness man there, drink my wine,
Come and take my herb.

Another song I'd like to add is House of The Rising Sun by The Animals. It is some what a dark song but I love it!!!

There is a house in New Orleans
They call the Rising Sun
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy
And God I know I'm one

My mother was a tailor
She sewed my new bluejeans
My father was a gamblin' man
Down in New Orleans

Now the only thing a gambler needs
Is a suitcase and trunk
And the only time he's satisfied
Is when he's on a drunk

------ organ solo ------

Oh mother tell your children
Not to do what I have done
Spend your lives in sin and misery
In the House of the Rising Sun

Well, I got one foot on the platform
The other foot on the train
I'm goin' back to New Orleans
To wear that ball and chain

Well, there is a house in New Orleans
They call the Rising Sun
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy
And God I know I'm one

I can't forget Welcome to The Machine by Pink Floyd. However that song scares the sh*t out of me I still love none the less...

Welcome my son, welcome to the machine.
Where have you been?
It's alright we know where you've been.
You've been in the pipeline, filling in time,
Provided with toys and 'Scouting for Boys'.
You bought a guitar to punish your ma,
And you didn't like school, and you
know you're nobody's fool,
So welcome to the machine.

Welcome my son, welcome to the machine.
What did you dream?
It's alright we told you what to dream.
You dreamed of a big star,
He played a mean guitar,
He always ate in the Steak Bar.
He loved to drive in his Jaguar.
So welcome to the Machine.

Common is probly my favorite rapper of all time. he's got a good socially conscious vibe, white suburban moms can bump his sh*t out of their ford windstars and it'll sound just as good as it does when it blares out of my kia optima... check this verse out for further proof of his awesomeness.... (on a kanye song but he's a JERK and i only listen to common's verse)

Get em high like noon, or the moon or a room filled with smoke
A hype filled with dope
Y'all assumed I was doomed, out of tune, but I still feel the notes
The real nigga quotes
Real rappers is hard to find, like a remote, control rap is not a
Used soup it still got life, that's why I abuse you who are not thugs
