Grand theft auto Paris is set in a fictionalised version of the Il-De-France region of France during 1968. Il-De-France is mainly filled up with Paris; the rest is made up of wooded areas. Paris is the largest city and capital of France, the locations of Il-De-France is:

Seine- Saint-Denis
Seine-Saint-Denis is the poorest and most run down district in Paris it is also the newest. Its population is predominately immigrants, mainly from Southern Europe. It is made up of high rise apartment blocks and African markets. The area has been experiencing a rapid deindustrialisation which has turned the area into a ghetto. This is the district the player starts out in.

Val-De-Marne
This is a mainly residential area and has a middle to working class tone with elements of ghettos and rich areas. It is mainly made up of small houses and apartment blocks. This is the second district the player unlocks.

Hauts-De-Seine
A very rich and affluent area, which is home to the upcoming La defense district. It is made up of sky scrapers and luxury houses, it is the last district the player unlocks, along with the Paris district.

Paris
Paris is the cultural heart of Il de France and is home to many monuments and shopping centres. It is made up of museums, tourist attractions and shopping malls. It is the last district the player unlocks.

GAMEPLAY

Death physics
In GTA Paris, the death animations have been changed greatly, dismemberment is now in. Obviously it will not be hugely overdone; however it will be slightly stretching reality, think a Quentin Tarantino or Robert Rodriguez film. Say if someone is shot at close range with a shotgun, the limb the gun is pointed at will blow off, the same can be achieved with a sword or axe, of course blood will spray out in copious amounts.

Payphones
Of course, being set in 1968, there are no mobile phones. If you wish to talk to a contact you drive to one of the various payphones around the city and press triangle, a little book will then pop up much like the phone did in GTA IV, you then scroll up and down with the d pad and press x, you will then phone the contact. Similarly to Vice city, sometimes a payphone will be ringing which will then alert you of new missions. (I have to give credit to Jacky Fiend for this one, i kind of stole it from his Las venturas topic).

Language
Obviously, French people donít speak English, so i think the best way to overcome this would be to have a system similar to Assassins creed 2, have the people speaking English, but with their countries accent with a few well known French phrases thrown in to conversations, which would be accompanied by English subtitles.

Fighting
A new fighting system will be implemented into the game, similar to that of the Warriors game, by progressing through missions you gain new fighting skills and combos, likewise by completing certain side missions you will gain fighting upgrades like brass knuckles or steel toed boots.

Looting mini games
A simple mini game, all you have to do is smash open a store window, pick up the targeted items (TVís, radios, instruments etc.) and place them in your car, you then drive back to your safe house and store them their, these will then show up in your safe house throughout the game, you can use these as well (watch TV, play the radio etc.).

Parkour mini games
You activate these missions by going on to certain roof tops, you will then be instructed on what to do, for example, sprinting by holding down x and pressing square to jump onto a wall and so on, these skills learned in the mini game can then be used in free roam.

Tour de France
Simply a racing mini game, the player goes to the starting point of the race and then engages in the race, there are many obstacles like ramps and bumps along the way. By doing these side missions the player gains a new, very fast bike and new skills.

SYNOPSIS

Set in the summer of 1968, GTA Paris revolves around the Corsican contract gangster, Vinnie Lampanelli who leaves his life as a drug mule in Corsica after a hit is made on his life which ends up with his whole family being murdered. He moves to Paris and begins to work for his old bosses after finding himself with no money or job, however things lead to him working for various gangs and shady characters across the district. Over the course of the game Vinnie becomes more powerful and rich as he searches for revenge for his family, as the game reaches its fever pitch the whole city is sparked off into race rioting and pits every gang against each other.

PLOT

Living his whole life in Corsica where Vinnie Lampanelli acted as a drug mule he must leave for Paris after a hit is made on his life which fails and leads to his whole family being murdered. Vinnie arrives in Seine-Saint-Denis where he finds himself with no job or money.
He moves in to a small flat in a rundown part of the district and the first few introductory missions feature his poor daily life. After a week in Paris he receives a phone call from his old boss, Pierre, an important member of the Union course. Pierre is delighted to have Vinnie in the city and immediately gives him work, he then introduces him to two other gang members, who Jean works for.

Thanks to Vinnie the Union course has gained a foothold in Paris and significantly weakened the Guillame gang. Pierre then introduces Vinnie to X, the unseen leader of the Union course.. Vinnie works for X and successfully drives the Guillame gang into their country estate, X offers Vinnie one last job, attacking the Guillame gangs estate and wiping them off the map, however on the way Vinnie is ambushed by the Corsicans hired muscle, the Rouge gang. Fearing for his life, Vinnie runs into the Val de marne district were he meets ďCaptain HookĒ, the deranged one handed torturer of the lotus flower yakuza.
Vinnie is then introduced to the dragon lady leader of the Lotusí, Vinnie helps the yakuza further to the point where the triads are at breaking point. JVinnie goes with a group of the yakuza and attacks a triad leader however the yakuza members are all killed and Vinnie is captured. He wakes up in a steam room at Mr Laos Chinese pagoda, the stronghold of the Mountain wolf triad. He is forcibly introduced to Mr Lao, the land phobic leader of the triad and is told to attack the yakuza and does so over the course of missions, the player is then given a choice of attacking the Lotusí or the triad.

Whoever the player chooses he is then betrayed by the gang he helped, Vinnie then runs into the sewers to hide from his attackers, along the way he meets Jacques Taraunte, the dying and insane bank robber who has been forced to live in the sewers due to police attention over his 200 or so bank robberies. Jacques knows he is going to die and is willing to pay Vinnie to make his leaving of the world a big one, robbing the Louvre art museum. Over the course of missions he succsefully robs the museum. He is then arrested.

The player is then put in prison for a few missions and works for the Arab mafia in their war with the prison sect of the Union course. He is then introduced to detective Leblanc, a racist and brutal police detective who is trying to take down the French connection heroin trade and knows about your past and is willing to help you in your search for who murdered your family. Leblanc is unhappy about working with Vinnie because of his Corsican heritage however the two develop a mutual respect for each other. Soon the Union course have been nearly defeated by Vinnie and Leblanc, Leblanc then reveals that it was Pierre that had his family murdered because he feared that Vinnie was showing too much potential and was threatening his position in the gang. Leblanc is then assassinated by the Union course which greatly upsets Vinnie.
The police then gear up to find who murdered Leblanc and end up beating three Arab youths to death, this leads to extreme rioting all over the city. All the gangs are then pitted against each other and Vinnie reunites with the members of the Arab mafia who he worked for in prison, they offer to help Vinnie find the remaining members of the Union course in return for destroying all other gangs in the city. After the defeating most other gangs Vinnie learns that X has been shot dead by police and that Pierre has fled to the country side, Vinnie along with members of the Arab mafia attack his compound, murdering every member of the Union course and finally, Vinnie sticks a gun in Pierreís mouth, ending his worthless life.

GANGS

Union Course
Appearance: They wear very dark suits, often accompanied by sharp expensive sun glasses. All Corsican.
Behaviour: A relatively small gang yet they are on of the most powerful and professional gangs in the city. They import heroin via Corsica, into France and then onto the rest of the western world. They tend to use middle men to do their bidding, hit men and smaller gangs.
Business interests: They are heavily involved in the French connection heroin route, they also sell heroin onto smaller gangs in the city for street dealing.
Strongholds: They reside mainly in the Hauts-de-seine area of the city.
Weapons: They use very hi tech weapons like the m14 and the FR F1.
Rival gangs: They are involved in a very slow and drawn out war with the Guillame gang.
Allegiances: They use the Three musketeers gang as hired muscle and have a false alliance with the Rouge gang who they plan to help defeat the Guillame gang for control of the drug trade.

Guillame Gang
Appearance: Tough, large, heavy set French guys, often professional boxers and fighters. Mostly French.
Behaviour: Aggressive yet smart. These gangsters are above petty crime and attacking none gang members or enemies. The Guillame gang have ruled Paris since WW2, however in recent years the flow of immigrant gangs has weakened the gangs old on the city. However they still have alot of contacts throughout the police force.
Business interests: They are involved in nearly every, especially the heroin trade. They, like the Union course, are heavily involved in the French connection drug route, they are also heavily involved in prostitution, racketeering, extortion and gambling.
Strongholds: They pretty much own the Seine-Saint-Denis area, operating out of pubs and strip clubs. Their leader lives in and all their plans are made on an estate outside of the city.
Weapons: Their favourite weapon is the lupara, some members use uziís. They also use melee weapons like hammers and axes.
Rival gangs: Their main enemies are the rouge gang, the two gangs have been at war for decades. They are also in a ďCold warĒ with the Union course over the heroin trade, both using outside factions to wittle each other down than outright murdering each other.
Allegiances: They use the triads as muscle in their war with the Corsicans in return for favours to the triads on their part.

Rouge gang
Appearance: More groomed and sleek than the Guillame gang, wearing sharp suits. Mostly French.
Behaviour: They tend to feel weaker and more vulnerable than the Guillame gang, often using acts of shocking violence to prove themselves.
Business interests: Their main business is prostitution and fraud, they also act as hired muscle for the Corsicans.
Strongholds: Their main territory is in the Val-De-Marne area.
Weapons: They, like the Guillame gang prefer the lupara, however due to their connection with the Corsicans they use weapons like m16ís and Thompsonsí.
Rival gangs: Their main enemy are the Guillame gang, who they have been fighting for years, they also fight the triads because of their alliance with the Guillamesí.
Allegiances: They are allied with the Corsicansí who supply them with guns and money in return for attacking the Guillame gang.

Mountain wolves triad
Appearance: Traditional Chinese dress, robes and ques. All Chinese.
Behaviour: One of the oldest gangs in Paris, the triads are steeped in tradition and history. They are above street fights and are not as high profile as other gangs, however, they are still great fighters.
Business interests: They run a few opium and gambling dens in Chinatown, however their new business is that of human trafficking, transporting people into Paris from east Asia and often selling them to the Albanians.
Strongholds: Their main neighbourhood is Chinatown were they run restaurants.
Weapons: According to tradition, the triads use knives as their main weapon, however with the rise of gun crime the triads have started to use colts.
Rival gangs: They are involved in a very bloody and long war with the Lotus flower gang, they also fight with the Corsicans and the Three musketeers as they work for the Guillame gang.
Allegiances: They serve as hired muscle for the Guillame gang.

Lotus flower gang
Appearance: Younger and flashier than the triad. All Japanese.
Behaviour: A fairly new addition to Parisí gangland, the Lotusí are quickly making a name for themselves as a violent and ruthless gang. When attacking they prefer to kidnap and torture rather than outright kill them.
Business interests: Their main business is human trafficking, which is the root of their problems with the triads.
Strongholds: Their operation is run out of an estate out of the city, however much of their business is in Chinatown.
Weapons: Anything loud and messy, Thompsons and Browning autos. They also traditionally use Katanas.
Rival gangs: They are the sworn enemy of the triad.
Allegiances: They have no major allies.

Arab mafia
Appearance: Flashy and rich, they tend to follow the latest fashion, in this case bell bottoms and suits. They have greasy pony tailed dark hair. All Arab, mainly Moroccan or Algerian.
Behaviour: A large and powerful gang, they will often fight with little provocation, whipping out their guns and shooting over imagined slights.
Business interests: They are the main growers of marijuana in Paris, which they sell onto the Rising tide to street deal.
Strongholds: Their main area of business is the Seine-Saint-Denis area of Paris.
Weapons: Shotguns and m1 carbines.
Rival gangs: They often fight with the Albanian mob over territory.
Allegiances: They are very tight with the Rising tide gang, who often join the mafia when they age.

Albanian mob
Appearance: Leather jackets and greasy hair, similar to American greasers. All Albanian.
Behaviour: A very aggressive gang. They come from poor farming backgrounds and as such are very hard mean thugs.
Business interests: They are involved in alot of street level crime, mugging, carjacking and robbery. However their main business is the prostitution and human trafficking business.
Strongholds: Most of the members live in Seine-Saint-Denis, however most of their businesses are done in the red light district.
Weapons: Generally hammers and knives.
Rival gangs: They often fight the Arab mafia over territory.
Allegiances: They have no notable allies.

Three musketeers
Appearance: Fairly casual clothes, sports coats and short hair. Mostly white French.
Behaviour: Very aggressive and volatile, they stalk the streets of Paris fighting and bashing people up.
Business interests: Primarily they act as hired muscle, they are also involved in armed robbery.
Strongholds: They are a huge gang and as such have a large following in all areas of the city.
Weapons: They generally shun guns, favouring hammers as their weapon of choice.
Rival gangs: They are the sworn rival of the Rising tide for unknown reasons, they also fight the triads because they work for the Corsicans.
Allegiances: They act as hired muscle for the Corsicans.

CHARACTERS

Yu Sung: http://images.allmov..._hour_3_010.jpg
The leader of the Lotus flower gang, Yu is a fierce genius of a woman. Born in a poor run down area of Tokyo, Yu was repeatedly sexually abused as a child, which tuned her into somewhat of a psychopath. At age 14 she became a master of martial arts and proceeded to murder the people who had wronged her. She moved to Paris at a young age and made friends with ďCaptain HookĒ a Japanese gangster and started to set up the Lotus flower gang. She uses her good looks and charm to seduce men and murder or manipulate them.

ďCaptain HookĒ: http://4.bp.blogspot...kuza_tattoo.jpg
The one handed torturer of the Lotus flower gang. Very little is known about Hooks past aside from he is the descendant of a samurai and looks down on others because of it. It is unkown how he lost he hand but it is referenced that it may be something unrelated to his combat experience. Hook is a stone ccold psychopath and wields his katana like it is a part of his body.

Jacques Taurante: http://3.bp.blogspot...20/Costello.bmp
An armed robber whoís crimes have earned him a celebrity status. Born in Paris, Jacques turned to crime at a young age, robbing street vendors and shop owners, he then bought a gun and started to rob bigger fish. By 1968 he has robbed around 30 banks all over France. His whereabouts is unknown by the police however his mission string takes place in his home, in a camp he has set up in the Paris sewer system, at this point he is highly delusional and is insane, probably due to his life in the sewers.

Vulaj: http://img.youtube.c...TKma3LGJU/0.jpg
The sexually deviant leader of the Albanian mob. Born on a farm in rural Albania, Vulaj is eluded to be inbred. He has many odd fetishes including that of BDSM and a latex fetish, he is also believed to be a rapist and maybe even a paedophile, because he has earned particular disfavour among his men and this has led to many power struggles.

Detective Leblanc: http://www.southwill...0PDVD_010-1.jpg
A racist and corrupt police detective. Born in the inner city, Leblanc was disgusted to see his city overrun by immigrants and joined the police, he became incredibly brutal, beating none white civilians for minor infractions, despite this he quickly rose through the ranks to become a detective. He is at first unwilling to work with the Corsican Jean, however the two eventually develop a mutual respect for each other. It is LeBlancís murder which sets the pivotal riots during the end of the game off.

Mr Lao: http://www.oneinchpu...rlds_end_01.jpg
The water bound leader of the Mountain wolf triad. Mr Lao resides in Mr Laos Chinese pagoda in Chinatown, he is always seen in his steam baths because he actually has a phobia of being out of water. Despite his oddness Mr Lao is a tactical genius, and as such has lead the Lotus flower gang into a rut in their war.

one of the freshest and interesting ideas for the new gta. a game set in the sixties ;let alone paris, opens itself up for creativity . obviously I'd rather have it based in the US or even the UK, but it's a great concept. would love more detail. vehicles ? new features? map?

Vehicles arent really my strong point so i can't do a list.

I chose '68 because it was really the start of all the racial tension which still goes on now and because i think the pop culture view of Paris, the romantic city of lights could be captured better at this point in time.

Thanks for the feedbakc smile.gif .

Now that's an idea I've never seen on this forum, compared to the 30,00 VC and SA threads.

Not sure if GTA would ever go back to the 60's, but as a game, I would buy this(although I'm not a huge fan of Paris). Good job so far. icon14.gif

Maybe a map?

Will there be much about the Riots that took place in Paris in 68? I saw a brief mention about some riots in your writing but I wasn't sure if it was the same.

Ah I see, did you add that on after my post because after I read it and before I commented I did a quick ctrl + f for riot and only found one result in your post and now there's 8 on the whole page tounge2.gif
Sounds very interesting though; will we be seeing some more graphics?

Map of the real life area added, what else could i update this with?

Ps: I have used real life locations because i do not speak French, and as such i couldnt do names for boroughs and such, however it wil satirise the city of Paris rather than taking place in the real life city.

Some remark.
-Jean Dubois don't seem to be a very corsican name., generally corsican surname are closer to italian name. (often finish with an "I") something like "Jean Duboli" would be better.
-In the 1960's the majority of immigrant came form southern Europe (Italy, Spain, Portugal). I suprised to not see any mafia or anything.

In the 1960's all the social pattern of the Paris was quite different, much of the city was quite very industrial and poorer than today
Seine Saint Denis was full of working industries.
Haut de Seine was not as wealthy as today and had several shantytowns, la Dťfense skyscraper district was still a giant construction site.
Inner Paris had still a lot of run down districts.

Don't also forget that Paris was a city full of redevelopment, it is at this period that Montparnasse was build, it is also at this time that most of the big council block estates were built.
The same for most of the freeways, especially the famous boulevard Peripherique beltway.

How about you just request In the GFX section. Fair enough If you like the logo (You have now) But how about you use that for a banner or something and get a proper logo. A boxart would be pretty cool too. I think that would make you thread a bit more attractive.

What he needs to do is flood the GFX request board with requests and drive narcis and Gamesguru to the brink of insanity. Then he should be good.
