How to solve WDR BUG

By using Kam’s script for 3Ds max, we get the “wdr bug”, the object is visible only if we look at its pivot, i.e. mostly his point of gravity. Here an example during the creation of my mod WTC IV.

Here I will explain how to cure this bug almost completely, unfortunately on certain objects (particularly for the imposing ones), there are still some disappearings when we look at their borders, but it is not extremely awkward …

This method is not very practical and can appear odd, but it is the only way to get a satisfactory result until now.
NB: parts I and II are optional, they are useful only if you haven’t textured your model yet.

I.Get ready

Here, nothing special. In this tuto, I will use the Marryhot (aka Marriott hotel) entrance, which will be in next versions of WTC MOD.

Well, open the 3D model that you want to include in GTA IV, select it, open the menu “file” and then “export”, “export selected”. Export it in. 3ds.

II. Texture with Sketchup

Sketchup is the only software which allows to texture for GTA IV. By using 3Ds max, your object will have anyhow-put textures, or textures which become black.

So, I won’t learn to you how to texture with Sketchup, there are already a lot of tutos…

Once the model textured, go to “file” then “export” then “model 3D” and finally export it as .3ds

III.Return in 3Ds max

It is the most important part of this tuto. If you don’t do it your object will appear anyhow in GTA IV.

Open a new EMPTY scene.

-Import this dummy, and place it at the origin of the scene (0; 0; 0) Download here

-Import your model

-Then rotate it of -90°

user posted image

-Apply to it a modifier “mirror”

user posted image

- Beside create an unspecified object

user posted image

-Convert this one in “editable poly”
-Select “attach” then select your model

user posted image

- Now go to mode “element”, select your object just created, and remove it

user posted image

- Go to the hierarchy mode, select “affect pivot only” then “center to object”

user posted image

-Rename your model to “0”

user posted image

-Go to the mode “schematic view” (1), then select the tool “connect” (2) then click on your model 0 and drag it on the dummy (3)

user posted image

You must obtain it

-Finished! Now go to “file” then “export”. Save as “thingfix.3ds” for example.

(GTA) IV. Under Zmodeler

Open a new scene, go to “file”, “import”. Seek your .3ds file.

You can notice that your objects is in the good position!

V. Last thing

Create your .wtd file for the textures and add your files in GTA IV by using Shadow Mapper or open IV/wpl manager. I might do a tuto later..

I made this tuto to encourage new people to launch themselves in GTA IV map modding to find maybe people who could help us about the collisions... wink.gif

it has bugs, I remember no shadow formation, strange shader, pivotbugs, no reflection on the water

the wrd exporter is still full of errors,

btw the buri is not bad, but it takes more pronounced details in order to keep up with the standard of GTA4 buildings
