Ok, so i decided to update because i was getting bugs in the 1.04 version.

(like, i would enter a vehicle, it would start smoking and drive forward in drunk mode without me controlling)

So, i update to 1.06 and get

Expecption EFCreateError in module DSOUND.dll at 000116C5. Cannot create file "C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\asilog.txt". The process cannot access file because it is being used by another process.

followed by

Application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142).

Well, supposedly it is trainer incompatibility. Unfortunately, i do not know what are trainer files and what aren't. I also cannot reinstall the game as my disc is not with me (I am on a campus for 6 weeks and you can only have games on the HDD, no other discs or consoles.)

Ftr, it is a stupid rule...but oh well.

Do you have any thoughts?

If i run as admin i get GTA IV FATAL ERROR: DFA did not initialize properly. Please make sure you are using LaunchGTAIV.exe to launch the game.

Make sure your running the game as administrator from LaunchGTAIV.exe not your desktop shortcut. This is a trainer problem but has been fixed by running the game as administrator so I think once that works the exception error will stop.

I have the same problem but When I run as admin the game opens and then goes to black screen then closes. How do I fix? My graphics card is more than enough powerful to play the game.

It works now thanks. the wierd thing is I had done that already but I guess reinstalling the updates fixed it. Thanks!

Now when i play though the games textures don't load, how do i fix this?

Here's my specs:

Windows 7 x64
Intel Core i5 M520 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs)
8GB RAM
DX11
NVIDIA GEFORCE GT 330M
Direct X diagnostic says the vid card has 3823MB of vid ram but GTA IV says only 234MB ingame.
1400x900.

I'm runing everything on med and distance and stuff is at 20.

Please help me fix this:)

The diagnostic tool reports both the dedicated and shared video memory; their total. Your dedicated video memory is 256 MB and hence, you see 234 MB in-game.

Try turning down your settings and run the game at a lower resolution to see if it makes any difference. Although, I think we can narrow down your problem to your video driver. Have you tried updating your video driver?

What about other settings? Have you tried them at low? Try turning shadows off. The 330M is a weak graphics card so I won't really expect the game to run great even at medium settings.
Also, try the -memrestrict command as suggested in the pinned topic.

I too am having the same problem after update. Obviously this is a programming issue and not a user issue. Why is this not fixed as of yet?

I am in administrator for install and playing the game. What now?

PS, The game worked (with vid problems) before the update, now it is not working at all. I figured I would update the program before inquiring about a fix for the video. The graphics show detail up to just in front of the car. All distance video is basically gone. YES, i have put all video to its lowest settings. I have 2 512 SLI cards and have tried it both with the SLI enabled for 1 gig video and SLI disabled for only 512 memory. If you have a fix for this as well I am listening.
