QUOTE (Official Website)
Infinity is a massively multiplayer online game set in a persistent futuristic universe, currently in development.

Infinity features an advanced procedural engine allowing for a seemingly infinite galaxy of unique star systems and planets to discover and explore, including seamless planetary landing. Infinity offers new and existing players an extensive storyline following the complex and often intricate political and social interactions of hundreds of corporations, organizations, and reputation groups through the games three primary factions: the Centauran, the Deltan Federation, and the Star Fold Confederacy.

The sense of scale is amazing, that asteroid dwarfed the ship, now what about the planet? It's f*cking huge!

Looks amazing but; will there really be anything to do on a lot of these planets?

Aside from that, this is what space travel should have been like in Mass Effect.

Really impressed they created an atmosphere. As you descend into it you can hear the air against the ship and the front of the ship heats up.

Just hope it doesnt get cancelled or turns out to be dull.

Holy crap. I always wanted a game like that. Too bad it's going to be an MMO. I don't play MMO's. If it was a single player game I'd pay $1000 for it. It would be great if Bioware did this for Mass Effect 3

That terrain and infinite draw distance is probably the same technology as Just Cause 2. Probably more advanced though.

I just read some of the FAQ's on their site. Check this out

QUOTE
You will actually be able to acquire any object in the game world. You will be able to hire non-player characters to control your ships and follow your orders. You will be able to move space stations and set the tax rates, acquire some buildings in a city, or if you're getting very rich, a whole planet .

EDIT: Oh well, the hype went down rather fast when I read this
QUOTE
Is it possible to walk around your ship or in cities/stations/planets ?

No, this is not planned at the moment. It could add some depth to the gameplay, but would need a lot more resources and in-game content than a small independent team can realistically produce.

I understand it's hard to make, but I was really hoping the technology was on that level. I guess we're just not there yet.

A team of six can't do much, this has been in development for 7 years.

The FAQ claims it uses realistic physics yet that is the most ridiculous atmospheric entry in history. I guess they just haven't programmed in gravity yet or something..

It also seems to me like the focus is on smaller ships, like fighter jets, and the kind of dogfights such ships would get into. If they add in the possibility to fly kilometer-long carriers.. I'm in. icon14.gif

Infinity employs an open-ended world design, in which a player can control everything from a small shuttle to massive military dreadnaught

millions upon millions of times more massive than just cause 2, and that is no exaggeration.

Remember this is a pre-alpha tech demo. From the looks of things they aren't playing it lazy. My God this is exciting. Even if it is an MMO you could endlessly fly around doing whatever you wanted, alone or with other people.

The ship and space station design is ugly as f*cking sh*t. Looks like something out of a Disney movie. Otherwise it looks pretty sweet, hope it can stack up against Eve Online's awesomeness.

It says on the FAQ from the official website that they might port it to Linux and Mac, but no console ports.

This is explained in the FAQ:
QUOTE
How can you fit so much data on a CD ?

The trick is: we are not storing any star-system or planetary data at all! What we are storing are algorithms and code to generate this data in real-time, as requested by the game server. This is similar to what 64k demo coders do, and this technique is called procedural programming.

I read a bit more and it turns out I confused this with Jumpgate. Jumpgate only has tiny ships for players to control.

It's a shame they'll be doing multiple, disconnected servers though. sad.gif
