I'm definetly a huge fan of the IV era Liberty City.
I know - you will think that LC is over. I don't care. Don't waste your time posting that here.
NOTE: This topic contains major spoilers of the events of Grand Theft Auto IV. If you don't want to be spoiled, skip the story info.
Liberty City, 2013. It's been 5 years since the events of GTA IV, and after the fall of the Russian Mafia, Pegorino and Gravelli families, the city has encountered a better, new life.
The level of crime has lowered, jobs have opened, poorness has decreased.
In the beginning of a new era, another person is also looking for a new start.
Jay Campbell, 24, is finally released from the Alderney State Correctional Facility from his 5-year sentence from gang affiliations, drug trafficing and illegal firearms.
Jay has got a lot of things to do, but first of all, he's gotta start his life all over.
Note: Check out the links to see the GTA IV Cross-Overs.
Jay Curtis Campbell
Jay was an active and respected gangbanger to the age of 18, when his life changed when his brother Marlon Bridges got shot in the basketball court at North Holland by an unrecognized hitman.
Heavily shocked, Jay decided to lay off the gang life and drugs, and started working at the Triangle Club in Bohan.
However, when Jay arrived at the club for his job interview, he could only find the manager Jose Trunchez dead.
Having no clue what had happened, with bodies all over the place. Before he had time to take a breather, the Liberty City Police Department came and arrested Campbell for suspected murder of the manager.
Jay was first found innocent - like he was - in the court, but after going to court an FIB investigator dug up his old gang history, and with Jay refusing to snitch about his friends and fellow gang members in the hood, he was found guilty of drug-, and gang related crimes and was sentenced five years in jail.
However, as Jay was inside, the word on the street was that Jay had been snitching, resulting in Jay's years inside being full of murder attempts and violent assaults.
Being released from jail, Jay finds being outside almost as bad or even worse than being inside - almost everybody, except for Drake believe that he snitched about the hood when going inside, the feds pay twice as much as attention to him than they did before him going inside and he's broke.
Born and raised in North Holland, he took over and became the leader of the North Holland Hustlers after their ex-leader Playboy X was killed back in '08, during Jay's prison years.
Besides making his money by running the gang, Drake is still very active in the streets and doesn't just delegate his business but does it himself.
In the game, Drake offers Jay a lot of jobs and helps him out through the whole story, like a true friend, and remains tightly in touch with Jay even when he doesn't no-more work with him that much later on.
Mr. Campbell owns an office in East Holland, where he runs business which is clearly associated organized crime in the city.
Jay thinks he is associated with the death of his father - which Ray actually doesn't even deny - and Jay only works for him because he needs the money.
He constantly bribes the corrupted LCPD to favour him, his bosses and often to fight against the North Holland Hustlers.
Chief Clarence Thompson is a corrupted chief of police in the LCPD and the main antagonist in the game.
In the past, he has led the investigations of the murders of both Marlon Bridges (Jay's brother) and Jay's father, which was the case where he met Ray, who now recently bribes Thompson to look away from his drug import business.
Thompson's corruption mainly concentrates in letting the Italian Mafia - especially the Pavano Family - to traffick drugs into the city, being cut in for big money from this.
Rico is an important member of the North Holland Hustlers - he is Drake's right-hand-man, along with Jay.
Rico joined the gang just a few months after Jay was sentenced, and he was the first member Drake recruited.
Rico has never believed the rumors about Jay being a snitch, and even as the two appear distant at first, they later generate a friendship and Rico will become avaiable for friend activities after the game ends.
Unfortunately, Fabio gets killed by Detective Thompson - an event that later is one of the main reasons for Thompson to become an antagonist.
Andrew specializes in sniping and is featured as a sniper in most of their missions together, and after Ray dies Andrew occasionally helps the North Holland Hustlers as a sniper.
He becomes Jay's friend after Ray dies and they can go out to activities together, and Andrew also has an ability to leave a SUV with a sniper and ammo waiting for Jay.
The map of GTA V is highly based on the map IV uses, exept for the add of two new boroughs, Ridgepeck in Alderney and a whole new island, Richmond Island.
These new boroughs give Liberty City more suburbish and countryside-oriented view.
Also, a second airport has been added into Alderney, the Alderney Liberty International Airport (non-geographically based on Newark Liberty International Airport) which is added to add deepness into the comeback feature of planes.
Liberty City is updated otherwise also; around 80% of the city's textures have been remade from GTA IV, with the 20% left the city still gives memorable flashbacks into the Liberty City of GTA IV.
The 80% of the new face mainly include the biggest landnmarks of New York City that IV was missing: the new Yankee Stadium, Staten Island Mall and more.
V also has added interiors to all of the skycrapers in Star Junction, including buildings such as the Chrysler Building and the Rockerfeller Center buildings. Each skycraper includes 3-6 accessible big floors to explore with numerous shopping avaiabilities, friend activities and such.
Many more interiors have been added around the city and the interiors are included in about 50% of the game's buildings and many new shops have been included.
Example of the HUD
The new HUD borrows health and armor colors from GTA IV but it also features an all-new meter: stamina meter.
Stamina is lost when running, jumping, climbing and swimming.
Robbery is a new function in the game, and requires nothing but a gun.
A robbery can be directed at a civilian or a store with a cash register - the latter resulting in an instant two-star wanted level.
A robbery is done by aiming a gun or a knife - or fists, resulting in a more attention-drawing mug - at a civilian or a shop assistant in a store with a cash register and then pressing the X-button/Square.
With civilians, they will pass their money to the player and then run away. In stores, the shop assistant will stand still with their hands up as long as the player aims at him, but will try to flee when aim is taken away.
More or less story-related side-missions will be avaiable from the beginning and more will come towards the end of the game.
Olivia, a friend of Jay and the stepsister of Drake, has never been well-paid, and her current job isn't that good paying neither. She is in major debts so she needs help. Her missions are accessable by calling her and they are avaiable througout the whole game.
There are a total of 10 missions you can do for her.
More to come
Car-, and weapon customization is finally here! Character modification from San Andreas also returns.
Weapon customization is unlocked towards the middle of the game.
Custom items can be bought from a gun store or from a friend who smuggles guns and gun add-ons.
There are a couple missions that will require a sniper, but instead a rifle with a scope might be avaiable for use.
The game also has a few missions which require a silencer.
The add-ons work the way, that the player can carry a scope or a silencer - not both - with him for a certain gun class, and he can store the rest of them to his safehouse.
Whenever carried, they can be added or removed from the add-on button.
Car customization is an all-new feature to the Grand Theft Auto series.
There are two customization garages in the game, first unlocked before the middle of the story and the second is unlocked close to the end of the game (of course, Pay N' Spray's are avaiable from the beginning for recoloring cars).
All safehouses in the game are featured with either a garage or a parking spot - this is where the cars will be saved into.

Hydra (from San Andreas)
In Grand Theft Auto V, airplanes make a return from San Andreas, as a new airport, the Alderney Liberty International Airport, has been added into the enviroment.
The planes don't require any type of a flight school like they did in San Andreas.
At the beginning of the game, only small planes will be avaiable, but as the story does progress, new and bigger planes will become avaiable for the player to fly.
Taxis make a comeback the way they did in GTA IV.
A new feature is the buses, that had no actual use in the last GTA.
Buses go by certain schedules around the city and there are 3 lines for each island, plus a line that goes all the way throughout Liberty City.

Exclusive new game modes:
Extreme Team Deathmatch
Derived from The Lost And Damned's Witness Protection, Extreme Team Deathmatch - ETDM - is a Team Deathmatch which is based on war between a randomized gang and the Liberty City N.O.O.S.E.
This game mode includes unique maps.
These are often borrowing their enviroment from a story-related key location.
They are smaller sized: they might be a apartment, a park or just a building or even a limited zone in the city.
As the name suggests, Enviromental Battles all all about the enviroment they're in.
There are two types: Water and Air.
In Water Battle, both teams start out in two to four boats and each one is armed with whatever the host has decided.
The object in the match is to simply take down the other team as fastly as possible, unless the host has decided to enable respawns, when there is a time and a money/score limit.
In Aerial Battle, the object is to take down a small airplane.
The teams start in one helicopter, some distance away from the plane.
The plane is accessable by flying the chopper to a checkpoint next to the plane.
Both teams' objective is to rig a bomb and exit the plane by jumping out of it with a parachute (landing doesn't count).
When the bomb is rigged, it cannot be defused, but however, the team who didn't rig the bomb can always try to take down the other team and/or block their exit from the plane in the 60 seconds the bomb explodes in.
Extreme Turf War:
Only avaiable for players from the level 7 to up
Extreme Turf War is a Turf War between 2-4 teams.
Each team spawns in their own base, which also is an armory meaning that each player can pick their weapons that they'll use for the whole round.
Their spawn location has a couple of the cars that are unique to their classes ready to use, and whenever taken more will spawn.
The goal is to take control of the neutral base in the middle of the map.
The neutral base is taken over quite slowly, but whenever it reaches a certain amount of control by one team, that team's unique weapons and cars start to spawn in the more or less neutral base.
Respawn time is 6 second and whenever a player dies he can select which base he wants to spawn into (spawning into the turf in the middle is possible after it has been taken over 50% or more).
In GTA V, there are Co-Operation missions made exclusively for the online mode.
The mode is unlocked after reaching the 3rd multiplayer level.
Five Leaf Clover
Named after the mission in GTA IV, this mission is also a Bank Robbery mission, which supports 3 to 5 players.
The mission takes place in the Bank Of Liberty.
The players are armed with an AK-47, a MP5, a Glock 19, grenades, knife and body armor.
In the beginning of the mission, a short cutscene shows the players entering the bank - after the cutscene gameplay starts.
The players shoot down the guards and gain a 4 star wanted level.
Then they need to walk up into a desk to get the vault opened. One of the players walks in and takes the money while the rest are in a shootout with the police.
When the money is gathered, the teams work together to take down the police forces blocking their escape and head out.
As they exit the bank their new object is to get to a getaway vehicle, which is either a helicopter in North Algonquin or a boat in West Algonquin (the vehicle is randomized from those two).
As the players escape they will gather a 6 star wanted level, however, when they reach the getaway vehicle, it will go off.
Each player gets 50$ for each police kill and the finishing of the mission awards each player with 6500$.
