Romania. I'm not buying right now, but I will be in the future (this year). I was just curious if that was a good budged to start with.

@Criѕtian: not sure how high are the prices in Romania, but overall this budget seems to be spot on.

I did a quick SE and came up with this;

http://mashable.com/...it-lingo-guide/

However, best to look up the most tech terms in one place via Wikipedia dot Org

Got a question, I could look up too, but do any of the Core i7 processors support internal video?

My 'new' business class Asus B53 supports Core i Intel that have GPU to do video card switching on driver and power consumption demands, it's got a used battery delivering over 3 hours conservatively.

I was thinking to swap to my 4 core i7 with Hyper Threading, and in theory, it could use the ATI graphics all the time, and give up the power conservation, but I kinda like that option since it works effortlessly using Asus' drivers

Core i7 CPUs have an integrated graphics card if that's what you're asking. However, switching between IGP and dedicated graphics card requires a mobo that supports such feature. If I'm not mistaken, that's only possible on Intel motherboards with Z-series chipsets on-board.

I have Windows XP, but they recently expired.

Are there any good free anti-viruses out there?

  • Microsoft Security Essentials
  • ESET Nod32 (not free)
  • Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

These listed above are low on resources, regularly updated, and offer the best protection. Use the 3rd one listed to run a thorough scan every few weeks or so (R* reference intended) and MSE should be open at all times.

The best free anti-virus there is is common sense.

Avast! by far and away the best free AV in terms of detection rates and false positive rates. It's also got decently low resource usage and a very good web threat detection element.
MBAM isn't, strictly speaking, an antivirus program in free form as it doesn't incorporate active protection.

So I'm getting a custom laptop built up by pcspecialist and I have a question regarding the processor. I can't decide whether to go for a dual core i5 that runs at 2.5 GHz 3mb or a more expensive quad core i7 that runs at 2.4 GHz 6mb. I'll be using the laptop for photo editing with photoshop/lightroom etc, some basic video editing and some gaming.

My question is, is it worth the extra bucks to go for the quad core or would I be alright sticking with the dual core which runs at pretty much the same GHz. Both are 4th gen Intel processors. The i7 will run me €75 more.

When it comes to laptops my general rule of thumb is, if it can't be upgraded easily then go for the best you can to make it last a lot longer, which is usually the Processor and Graphics card/chips.  So I would say push that boat out a little further in order to make your laptop last longer.

Since it's a custom build it could actually be upgraded quite easily. You do make a good point about making it last longer without just having to upgrade again in a couple of years.

my computer has a CPU speed of 1.3 GHz but it says its performance rate at 1.95 GHz.. Does this mean I can run a game that requires 1.8 GHz or faster?

What CPU is it?

Also the game requirements that just say some "GHz" without specific CPU series (like Core 2 Duo, etc.) are quite ambiguous and aren't meant to be taken to the letter.

It is an AMD E-300 APU

That's quite recent CPU, so there is a such possibility.

Does anyone know if you can still run autocad 2012 version on windows 7 (64 bit). I've downloaded the student version but whenever I launch it and try to activate it an autodesk licensing window pops up and its just a blank white box, sometimes with two checkboxes in it. The only way I can get it to work is by clicking "try" instead of "activate" but that means that in 30 days I won't have access to the software anymore and I'm going to need it for longer than that.

I had a 1.8 ghz CPU and I could run 2004-2006 games on it.
So yes.

Recently upgraded my router to a zyxel pk5001z and my windows 7 computer has trouble connecting to it.

It detects my network but it detects it as a wep, when its on a wpa/2. I would try connecting to it automatically but it says the security code is invalid. When I do it manually; entering SSID and choosing the security type, it says the settings don't match. Though, when I leave the settings it randomly connects and stops randomly.

My adapter detects other networks and shows some are WPA/2 types but not mine.

Fixed
