WARNING! THIS TOPIC CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS THROUGH OUT! THE STORIES OF GTA IV, THE LOST AND DAMNED AND THE BALLAD OF GAY TONY ARE WRITTEN ABOUT IN DETAIL IN THIS TOPIC. IF YOU HAVEN'T COMPLETED THEM THEN DON'T READ ON! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Ok, now we've got that out of the way, I can explain that this topic is about all the connecting stories that have been weaved into GTA IV as well as the The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony DLCs. This is all about the story of GTA IV, and how it is all related and joins together so people that aren't completely familiar with the story of any of the games or wants to see hthe complete picture of a specificic piece of the story i.e. The Diamonds scenarioo, can find that information here. I hope that this topic is understandable, informative and benificial to all those who read it.
Now, Get ready to see the connections...
The Diamonds are first brought to Liberty City For Ray Bulgarin on the Platypus ship where in the game's first scene we see them being dropped into cake mix by the ship's Cook in order to smuggle them off of the ship. A while later a deal is set up between The Cook and Gay Tony (who wishes to buy the diamonds). However Ray Boccino finds out about the deal and gets Johnny to go and steal the diamonds from the meeting. So with that Gay Tony's entourage is ambushed by The Lost and he and Luis manage to escape while the diamonds and the other bodyguards drive away in a limo containing Tony's boyfriend Evan Moss.
The Lost manage kill all of the bodyguards and steal the diamonds from the Limo. Johnny then hides them in trash bags in Algonquin, which are retrieved later on by Niko and one of Ray's men by the name of Luca. However all doesn't go according to plan as Luca's crew steal the diamonds and plan on leaving to Las Venturas, prompting Niko to go after them and kill them in order to get the ice back.
Ray holds onto the diamonds for a while and then calls Niko and Johnny and tells them to go to the Libertonian museum and sell the diamonds to a man named Isaac Roth and his Jewish mob. The deal seems to be going well until Luis, who was present at the Platypus when The Lost stole the diamonds, interrupts the deal and all hell breaks loose. Niko escapes empty handed, Johnny gets away with the cash, several Jewish mobsters and Mafiosos lose their lives and Luis steals the ice from Isaac Roth.
Shortly after this Ray Bulgarin, an old Nemesis of Niko's and an employer of Luis, who is seemingly the rightful owner finds out that Luis and Tony were involved in his diamonds going missing. Luis, not knowing that Bulgarin knows of his involvement goes to his house to take up more work for him. Bulgarin questions Luis about the Diamonds, suggesting that Luis and The Cook conspired against him and ripped him off. After seemingly accepting Luis's plee of innocence, he sends him to a building in Little Italy to help his henchman Timur who is apparently in trouble. When Luis gets to the top of the building however he recieves a call from Bulgarin saying that he has left something for him in a box in the corner of the rooftop, which upon inspection turns out to be The Cook's severed head!! Luis quickly realises that this is a set up and he is forced to fight his way out against several waves of Bulgarin's men.
Shortly after this Niko and Patrick McReary kidnap Gracie Ancelloti, the daughter of the don of the Ancelloti Family in order to convince Gay Tony to hand over the ice (which is now in his possession) in exchange for her life. Tony agrees to the terms of the deal and at the sewage works on Charge Island, Gracie is almost successfully exchanged for the diamonds, but just as Niko and Packie move to take them, Bulgarin ambushes the deal and orders his men to attack. Bulgarin leaves, and his men take the ice. Niko and Packie then sucessfully eliminate all but one of the attackers who has managed to escape up onto an elevated walkway with the diamonds. Niko and Packie give chase and manage to corner the man, but realising he will be killed wether he hands them over or not, he drops them into a passing garbage truck, which drives away and he is promptly killed.
As far as Niko is concerned The botched exchange on Charge Island is the last he sees of the diamonds, however for Tony and Luis the exchange opens up a whole other can of worms where by Bulgarin who has not succeeded in killing the two by himself turns to his associate Don Giovanni Ancelotti for help with the matter. Giovanni passes on word through his lackies Rocco and his uncle Vincenzo to Luis that he has decided that the fairest course of action is for either Tony or Luis to be killed, although the two men would rather it be Tony as they dislike him and his lifestyle. This leaves Luis with a very hard decision to make.
Luis then goes to "deliver the news" to Tony at Maisonette 9 only to find Rocco and Vinnie there waiting to oversee Tony's execution only for Rocco to witness his uncle Vinnie being shot in the head by Luis instead. Rocco escapes with his life only because Tony tells Luis to let him live out of Respect/Fear for Giovanni Ancelotti.
Shortly after the finish of Niko's Story, it is revealed on the news that a hobo named Jerry Kapowitz found $2 Million worth of diamonds in the city dump, and as no owner was found (even though over a hundred people lay claim to them), he was allowed to keep them. It is not until The finale of The Ballad of Gay Tony that we get to see this man when Luis bumps into him in Meadows Park and upon getting up we see him checking the diamonds which he has concealed in a Cigarette box in his pocket. Kapowitz then moves to Vice City with his new found wealth and opens up a store that sells guns and alcohol in one convenient location.
The Heroin was brought from China to Liberty City (also on the Platypus) by the Triads, one of whom was the cousin of a Triad in Liberty City. It was briefly held by the Triads but was seemingly stolen by the Angels of Death early on.
When the Angels of Death were believed to have killed Jason Michaels, a young biker from the Lost who was actually murdered by Niko Bellic on Faustin's orders, The Lost declared war. In an act of retaliation, Johnny Klebitz and his Lost brothers attack the AOD clubhouse on the orders of Billy Grey and after killing several gang members they gain entry to its interior where they find 2 bags of the Heroin stashed in the basement.
Initially Johnny attempts to sell the Heroin through Elizabeta Torres to a contact called Charlie at an abandoned appartment building in Dukes with the help of Niko and Playboy X, but the deal goes bad when Charlie turns out to be an undercover officer. Johnny, Niko and Playboy are then forced to shoot their way out of the building to avoid being caught by the police.
Following the deal that never was Johnny holds onto the H but he quickly begins getting phonecalls from the FIB so he decides to get rid of it as quick as he can. Largely due to the heat that the Heroin is bringing on them, The Lost decide to sell the H back to the Triads. This doesn't sit well with the Triads however who consider it an insult that they are being asked to buy their own Heroin back and they open fire on Johnny and Jim, who were sent to hand over the Heroin by Billy who hopes that they will be killed in the inevitable gunfight. However the two manage to kill all of the Triads on the roof of a building in Chinatown, but Billy is arrested outside.
The Heroin then stays with the Triads until they attempted to off-load it in Alderney and their plans are foiled by Niko when he steals the truck that is carrying the H on the orders of Pegorino family member Phil Bell. Niko then leaves the truck with Frankie, Phil Bell's nephew.
After a week or so, Frankie, Phil and Niko went back to move the drugs, which they have loaded into the boots of two cars. But unfortunately for them the FIB are onto them and they swoop in and attempt to arrest them. The three barely escape after dumping their cars halfway through a heated chase and switching to a van to escape the countless number of N.O.O.S.E. on their tails.
A while later, Phil's boss Jimmy Pegorino finds a buyer for the cursed Heroin who just so happens to be Dimitri Rascalov. Just as Niko was about to cut his ties with Pegorino, he is asked to do one last thing.. oversee the deal with Dimitri.
At this point, the story splits into the Revenge and Deal branches.
Niko agrees to do the deal with Dimitri. He goes to the meet and Dimitri betrays the buyers and kills them, taking the Heroin for himself. Niko and Phil are forced to fight for their lives and money. They eventually get the money but when Niko goes to his Cousin's wedding, Sergei, Faustins former bodyguard tries to kill him. They struggle and Roman is shot instead. Niko goes after Dimitri and eventually kills him on Happiness Island, and then Heroin is left with Ray Bulgarin who was an associate of Dimitri. Bulgarin attemps to distribute the heroin around the city in order to make a big profit but Luis quickly puts an end to this when he goes to Funland on Firefly Island (which Bulgarin is using as distribution centre) and destoys all of the vans containing the Heroin and killing Bulgarin's henceman Timur before killing Bulgarin himself.
Niko goes to the Platypus, being used by Dimitri for importing and exporting Heroin, and kills the Russian crew and executes Dimitri. At Roman's wedding, Jimmy Pegorino (who's mafia family is now ruined due to not having a deal left or the money) fires at Niko but hits Kate McReary, killing her. Niko goes and chases Pegorino, and kills him on Happiness Island. The Heroin is then seemingly sold to Ray Bulgarin who attemps to distribute the heroin around the city in order to make a big profit but Luis quickly puts an end to this when he goes to Funland on Firefly Island (which Bulgarin is using as distribution centre) and destoys all of the vans containing the Heroin and killing Bulgarin's henceman Timur before killing Bulgarin himself.
Although not actually the same batch, Cocaine does play a major role in the overall story of GTA IV and also links the three protagonists at several points. So I think it's definitely worth a mention.
The First batch of Coke of major significance we see is in the mission "The Snow Storm" wherein Elizabeta gets Little Jacob to find some buyers, but they betray her and take the coke. Niko was sent to get it back from them at an old abandoned hospital on Colony Island, but ULPC operative Michelle (real name Karen) took it from him in order to use it as evidence against Elizabeta. An interesting thing to note is that in a later mission (Heavy Toll) Elizabeta brands the Angels of Death "theiving, snitching motherf*ckers" which could indicate that they were behind the cops showing up at the deal, although there is no solid evidence to prove this.
The second big batch of coke we see is being brought over a Toll bridge by the Angels Of Death in the back of a van. Elizabeta Torres hires Johnny Klebbitz and his new friend Malc of The Uptown Riders to seize control of the Toll booth and kill the AOD when they try and cross the bridge and then steal the van containing the coke. The two are successful in doing this and they bring the coke back to a lockup for Elizabeta's bodygurd Andreas to pick it up later.
During this time Elizabeta's also had some more coke brought over to America from Puerto Rico by a coke mule called Marta. She arrived in the country and was about to be raped by a border inspection officer before she was rescued by Johnny Klebitz, who fought with LCPD and then evacuated her from Francis International. Johnny delivered her to Elizabeta who was very protective of her, and Malc and Johnny believed them to be in a rellationship. Eventually Malc and Johnny went to sell the coke but they ended up shooting one of the buyers and escaping via Double Ts from a large police force.
The third batch of coke we see is when Niko starts working for the Pegorinos, when one of their Capos Phil Bell has Niko accompany him to the docks in order to try and trick the Russians (who are now working with the Ancellotis) into loading a truck with coke that has been brought into Liberty on two speedboats. This however fails leaving Niko and Phil to fight for their lives against the Russians and highjack the speedboats containing the coke and drive them to a dock where one of Phil's guys is waiting to load it into a van. It is not yet known what becomes of this coke but it is assumed that Phil sells it for the Pegorinos in order to make money.
The Final load of coke that appears in the story is when John Gravelli, a Mob Boss and friend of U.L.P sends Niko to a warehouse in Alderney to destroy several vans containing the product that the Russians are guarding for The Ancellotis. It is possible that this was coke imported by the Russians for the Mob to make up for the coke that they were practically responsible for letting the Pergorinos take earlier.
It may also be worth noting that Cocaine is also the primary drug which is dealt by Armando, Henrique and Luis in the Ballad of Gay Tony missions "Corner Kids" and "Clocking Off".
Johnny and Niko
Johnny crosses paths with Niko Bellic a few times during the course of GTA IV. The first time is when Johnny rides past Niko in Alderney and Niko bumps into a man on the street. The Lost seem to totally ignore this and so Niko doesn't notice them either (although this is most likely just an easter egg as Niko can't access Alderney til much later). The next time Niko and Johnny cross pathes is during a Heroin deal in a tenement (the missons Blow your Cover and Buyers Market). It's a sting and Niko fights his way across the rooftop with Playboy X and Johnny fights his way down.
Johnny encounters the Bellics once again when he is forced to kidnpap Niko's cousin, Roman for his ex girlfriend Ashley Butler to get her out of trouble with Russian Loan sharks, who worked for Dimitri Rasclov. Since Dimitri wanted to get Niko, Roman would help him. So Johnny kidnapped Roman with the help of Malc and handed him over to a Russian at a warehouse. Johnny only met Niko again at a museuem where they would exchange diamonds with Jewish diamonds dealer Isaac Roth.
Luis Fernando Lopez ambushed the deal in order to retreive the diamnds for his boss Gay Tony. Niko escaped with his life, Johnny with the 2 Million dollars and Luis got the diamonds. And this was the last time all the protaganists met.
The last time Niko and Johnny's stories crossover is shortly after the deal at the museum goes wrong when Ray Boccino Orders Niko to chase down and kill the bikers responsible for his money being stolen. This results in the death of Johnny's best friend Jim Fitsgerald when he runs into a subway train while being chased by Niko.
Niko and Luis
Niko met the Protaganist of the second episodic DLC, Luis Lopez first when he and the two McReary brothers Patrick and Derrick rob the Liberty Bank just off Chinatown and Luis was one of the the people waiting in the line at the bank. He was on the ground when a man next to him attempted to stop the robbery. He killed Michael Keane and was shot soon after. After the crew make their escape Luis (along with the other hostages) is questioned by the police about the robbery.
Luis crossed paths with Niko again (as he did with Johnny) at the museum. He ambushed the deal and got away with at least the diamonds. Niko was forced to flee for his life, fighting the Ancelottis and the Jewish Mob, setting up hostilities with the latter (he was already fighting the Ancelottis).
Later on Niko and Patrick spring a plan to kidnap Grace Ancelloti which involves Tony and Luis following Packie to where Gracie is being held as part of a plan to get her back. However Packie becomes wide to somebody being onto him and has Niko Move Gracie to another location.
The two meet for the final time when Niko and Packie hand over Gracie for the diamonds. Unfortunately Bulgarin abmushed the deal. (The full story of the ice is explained above)
Luis is also instrumental in certain events that relate to the ending of Niko's story such as the final faith of the heroin he is ordered to sell to Dimitri on behalf of the Pegorinos and Eventually killing Niko's old enemy Ray Bulgarin and unintentionally getting him off Niko's back as well as his own. These crossovers are also explained in their respective sections above. Aside from these direct crossovers there are also other connections between Niko and Luis like the the fact that one of Niko's potential girlfriends (Carmen Ortiz) once dated Luis's friend Henrique.
Luis and Johnny
The first crossover we see between these two characters is when Tony and Luis go to a building in Chinatown and see Johnny's fellow Lost member Billy Grey organising a set up whereby Johnny will be killed by the Triads as he attempts to sell them some heroin.
The first time Luis and Johnny actually meet however is when Johnny attacked a deal where Gay Tony was buying some diamonds from the Platypus chef. Gay Tonys boyfriend Evan Moss fled and Luis and Gay Tony escaped, while Evan held onto the diamonds. When Evan was killed and everyone in limo was too, Johnny grabbed the diamonds.
Johnny didn't meet Luis again until the Mueseum deal went wrong. Again, this was the last time the protaganists meet. But Johnny did hear of Luis through the Bryce Car Bug. When Congress Man Thomas Stubbs III asked Johnny to plant a bug, he planted it and later on was able to listen in. He heard Bernie Crane (Florian Cravic) talk about Luis when he was at the Hercules (a gay bar). He mentioned he was Tony's bodyguard and said he was attracted to him. After Johnny calls the wiretap number a few times he will also be able to hear Niko (who later acquires the car) being chased by police, all the while firing off shots and shouting at them.
Ray Boccino is mostly connected due to his organisation of the diamond robbery's and deal, which is a key centre point for the 3 protaganists to meet. Ray is an employer of Johhny and Niko, using Niko to rid himself of triators ad troublesome business partners, and uses Johnny and the Lost to initally steal the ice and distribute them for Niko and Luca Silvestri's crew to pick them up in Taking in the Trash. Ray becomes Johnny's enemy after he orders Niko (his cleaner) to take care of the bikers with his money, an anonymus one and Jim Fitzgerald.
Ray did this after Johnny escaped from the deal with the money, betraying Ray. he sent 4 squads of hitmen after Johnny, but Johnny survived thanks to a tip off about the impending attack by his ex girlfriend and the person who told Ray about the diamonds, Ashley Butler. Johnny's only work for Ray was with the diamonds, while Niko did some work involving the blunder and trying to clean it up after they were lost. Ray was eventually executed on James Pegorino's order by Niko, after Jimmy P thought Ray was a rat.
Ray Boccino's appearence is limited to Niko and Johnny's Stories Only
Elizabeta was the boss of a reasonably small time cocaine distribution Cartel that operated from a Bohan project. She was a highly volatile lesbian and coke addict, who also employed both Niko and Johnny. By the last time we see her, she has been arrested for drug charges and is facing 300 years of jail time due to collected sentences of cocaine distribution of 10 years each. Although that fate isn't a good one, Elizabeta is a very strong woman who I would dare say could stay powerful even behind bars.
In TLAD Liz is put in touch with Johnny by Billy Grey who thinks she will be the best person to help them sell the stolen Heroin. She also puts Johnny in contact with Playboy X and Niko Bellic. Although the opeation is a sting, they escape, but Johnny does still get pressure from the FIB due to the sting later on. Elizabeta has several high up members turn states witness and she becomes increasingly paranoid; mostly through her addiciton to cocaine. She has Johnny escort her sexual partner and coke mule Marta from the airport, and her last work for Johnny is a cocaine deal, that goes awry and Malc and Johnny are forced to escape from many cop cars.
In IV she employs Niko through Mallorie, Roman's girlfriend and fiancee. Niko initially does one job with Patrick McReary, but later on starts more regular work with Elizabeta. He oversees the aforementioned H deal and barely escapes from it with Playboy X. Niko does more work with her, and retrieves some Coke taken from her by the AoD, and kept in an anbandoned hospital. His final job for her is to dispose of the dead bodies of Manny Escuela and his cameraman, who were shot by a paranoid Liz while she was being filmed. She then cuts her ties with him after the heat closes in.
It is mentioned she has contact with the Northwood Dominican Drug Dealers, Luis' gang but she is unseen in The Ballad of Gay Tony.
Roman Bellic is Niko's cousin. He appears most significantly in the original GTA IV wherein he is partly responsible for Niko's journey to Liberty City promising him a rich hendonistic lifestyle where he can have many beautiful cars and women (which niko finds out is a lie upon arrival). Most of the story in GTA IV involves Roman and he serves as both a kind of side kick to Niko and the reason for most of his woes (being in debt, getting in trouble with gangsters etc).
Roman also appears in both of the DLC ad-ons The Lost and Damned and the Ballad of Gay Tony and is the only person other than Gay Tony (see below) to appear in all three stories. In the Lost and Damned Johnny is tasked with kidnapping Roman for Dimitri Rascalov in order to repay a death incurred by his ex girlfriend Ashley Butler, which in turn leads to Niko going to thewarehouse where Johnny hands him over in order to rescue him (seen in game as the mission "Hostile Negotiation). In The Ballad of Gay Tony Roman appears once again as a patron in Maisonette 9 serving as a companion to Brucie Kibbutz. His appearence in TBOGT is however limited to only two appearences in cutscenes.
Tony Prince aka "Gay Tony" is a gay nightclub owner who employs The Ballad of Gay Tony's protagonist Luis Lopez as a bodyguard, personal assistant and manager of Maisonette 9. As the games title would suggest he plays a large role in The Ballad of Gay Tony and his financial troubles and associated self distructive behaviour serve as the basis of the games story. Aside from his prominent role in TBOGT, Tony also appears in both The Lost and Damned and GTA IV respectively.
His role in The Lost and Dand Damned is limited to one mission wherein he appears at a Diamond deal at the Platypus buying diamonds from the ships's cook - a deal that Johnny and his fellow bikers subsequently break up in order to steal the diamonds for Ray Boccino. In GTA IV he is again only seen in one mission where he appears at the diamond exchange to trade the diamonds for his close friend Gracie Ancelotti however he is mentioned several times outside of the mission as being the owner of the diamonds and having a lot of underworld connections.
Evan Moss is the Boyfriend of "Gay Tony". He appears briefly in The Lost and Damned alongside Tony and Luis at a diamond deal at the Platypus. His Role in the Ballad of Gay Tony is slightly more prominent as he is featured in several cutscenes in addition to the aforemention diamond deal. In the Ballad of Gay Tony he serves as the enabler to Tony's drug problems and as a result is disliked by Luis Lopez. It is also apparent that their relationship is largely symbionic whereby Tony loves to be seen with a hot young guy who supports him when he needs a fix and Evan loves the glamourous life that Tony provides him with. Evan is also the person who escapes the deal at the Platypus with the much sought after bag of diamonds before being killed by Johnny in order to steal them.
Gracie Ancelloti is the friend of Tony Prince and daughter of a powerful Mafia Boss(Giovanni Ancelotti). Her role is limited to GTA IV and The Ballad of Gay Tony however her role is equally signifigant in both games. In GTA IV she features as the target of a kidnap plot by Gerald McReary who wants to use her as a bargaining chip to gain possesion of the diamonds that are, as of the Museum scenario, in the hands of Gay Tony. This plot involves Niko pretending to be interested in buying a car that she is selling and then taking her hostage under the guise of a test drive. After her kidnap she is held by Packie and his friend Gordon until Giovanni and Tony agree to the terms of the deal. She is then given back to Tony at an exchange on Charge Island (see Diamonds section above).
Her role in The Ballad of Gay Tony is primarily that of a friend to Tony whereby they are seen hanging out in several cutscenes and at one point being driven by Luis from Tony's apartment to Gracie's house in Alderney. Although abscent in much of the latter portion of the game due to her being kidnapped, Luis is involved in efforts to get her back most notable when he and Tony follow Packie in a helicopter in order to find out where she is being held captive. In all of her appearences she is portrayed as a stuck up, annoying slut which angers many people and often results in her being punched in the face.
Gracie also appears as a Random Character in GTA IV outside her house on Babbage Drive in the days following Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend. She instantly recognises Niko as the man who kidnapped her and sends several Ancelotti goons after him.
Patrick "Packie" McReary is the youngest member of the infamous McReary Family, a group of Irish-American thugs that once ran Liberty City. By the year 2008 however he and his family are reduced to doing grunt work for more powerful gang such as the The Pegorino crime family.
Packie features most prominently in GTA IV being first introduced to Niko by Elizabeta Torres when Niko is sent to look out for Packie during a drug deal that subsequently turns sour. Shortly after Niko sucessfully protects him for the dealers, Packie brings him along on a few jobs where he subsequently gets introduced to Ray Boccino. Packie and Niko also pull of a robbery on The Bank of Liberty together along with Packie's brother Derrick and his friend Michael after which they become friends and begin to hang out with each other. Packie and Niko also work together later in the story to kidnap Gracie Ancelotti and hold her hostage with the last job they do together being Exchanging her for the Diamonds mentioned earlier.
Packie McReary also appears in The Ballad of Gay Tony, although not as much as in GTA IV. The first time we see Packie during Luis's story is during the Bank Robbery mentioned above (which is also the opening cutscene of TBOGT) wherein Luis is one of the customers in the Bank when it gets robbed. The next time we see Packie in TBOGT is when after Gracie is kidnapped Tony and Luis must follow him in a chopper to find out where she is being kept. He is also seen once again at the Diamond exchange from Luis's point of view. Packie is also seen one last time in the game's closing credits exiting a taxi cab and entering the airport with a bag of money over his shoulder (presumably the money that he stole from the bank).
Yusuf is a billionaire property developer from Dubai who came to liberty city to build a massive apartment complex in Castle Gardens overlooking the Statue of Happiness. In The Ballad of Gay Tony he meets Luis Lopez on a night out at Maisonette 9 and then shortly afterwards he calls him up to do some work for him. Many of these jobs involve Luis stealing expensive items for Yusuf and subsequently getting a lot of police attention but also forge a strong bond between the two resulting in Yusuf rewarding Luis by giving him expensive one-of-a-kind gifts, like a Buzzard, A Super Drop Diamond (Rolls Royce Phanthom) and a solid gold Uzi and offering him help when he needs it, most significantly giving him access to a helicopter to get to the Museum to break up the diamond deal and also helping him get to the airport safely to take out Bulgarin - by destroying the cars that are persuing Luis with rockets fired from a golden attack helicopter.
Yusuf's role in GTA IV is a bit more minor, being simply mentioned in only one mission. The mention comes when Niko starts to work for Playboy X, in his first job being asked by Playboy to clear Yusuf's million dollar construction site of Mafioso and several union officials who have closed down his site as part of a strike. This doesn't exactly go according to plan though since Yusuf (not knowing that Playboy did this as a favour) mistakes the killings for a terrible accident and temporarily closes down the site himself and builds an on-site memorial for the dead men. This however also inadvertently creates another crossover between the two stories where by Niko killing the mobsters on that site actually helps Tony's associate Rocco, who had been having trouble with the Messina family over control of the same unions that controlled the site, by taking out his rivals and thus sorting out problems that Luis and Tony had tried to rectify earlier.
Bulgarin is a Russian mobster who at one time worked a human trafficing operation of which Niko Bellic was a part of until one day while on a run across the Mediterrainian, a Ship carrying Niko and several others went down in the ocean off the coast of Europe forcing Niko to jump from the ship and swim to safety. Bulgarin then misinterpreting what happened as Niko betraying him and intentially sabotaging his operation put a price on Niko's head forcing him to join the merchant navy and subsequently come to Liberty City.
Shortly after Niko's arrival in the city however he finds out that Dimitri Rascalov has informed Bulgarin of his whereabouts which results in Niko being led into a trap by Dimitri so that Bulgarin's men can kill him. Niko however survives with the help of his friend Little Jacob.
Bulgarin has a more prominent role in The Ballad of Gay Tony serving as an Employer to Luis and eventually the games main antagonist. Two of Bulgarin's appearences in this game also directly cross over with Niko's (and to an extent Johnny's) story, the first being when Bulgarin calls Luis to his house to question him about the Diamonds he bought earlier from the Platypus's cook - which he claims to be rightfully his, before sending Luis to the rooftop of a building in Little Italy under false pretenses where he finds the cooks head in a box and comes under fire from several of Bulgarin's men forcing him to flee. The second time is at the infamous Diamond exchange where Bulgarin breaks up the exchange (see the diamonds section for details. This is the las time Niko sees Bulgarin however he is encountered by Luis one more time, in the final mission of TBOGT where he is killed by Luis high above Liberty City as he attempts to flee the city in a private jet.
So there you have it, the many connections in the lives of all three of our Liberty City Heroes in the Awesome Autumn of 2008.
Huge thank you to El Zilcho who came up with the original idea for this topic and set the basis for the content. Which you can see here.
