I used to watch Bleach
quite often, then after the initial storyline you start to realise it's very recycled and the new rules they bring into play are just laughable and cheesy and you wonder why those rules didn't apply earlier in the series etc. I swear they're just making that sh*t up on the spot. It is a VERY good watch for say the first 70 or so episodes though, but it soon gets tedious. I got bored around ep160
I personally just rewatched Afro Samurai
the other day with Samual L Jackson. It's a fantastic combination with the use of a hip hop score by Wu Tang's RZA. It's about a black Samurai with an afro seeking on becoming Number 1. Plenty violent and only 5 episodes long. It's definitely enjoyable and not a struggle to watch due to the fairly short length and pretty basic storyline. just sit back and watch some heads get cut off.
Also another mention for 'Gurren Lagann'
. I don't usually like the whole robot side of anime but I found it quite thrilling and kept me hooked.
But a short anime series I always recommend regardless of taste is FLCL
AKA Furi Curi (English - Fooly Cooly) About a boy who get hit over the head with a guitar and all of a sudden robots and other objects begin growing out of his head. With it's underlying coming of age theme, developing maturity and finding a voice to express himself, it's stuck at to me as a great series amidst the gunfire.
And that reminds me I still have Grave of the Fireflies
to watch this week. I've heard good things about it. Also hear a lot of praise of Code Geass from a friend of mine. After reading this topic, it's on my to-watch list
