Haaaaaaach, I love you so much biggrin.gif Any chance to convince you to model the 91/92 with the closed rearwheel well? smile.gif

The model looks good so far, cant spot any inaccuracies, (and that means something if someone models my favorite car!) If you need some blueprint, I know torzer und pumbars from SPC modeled a pretty accurate Caprice, I could try to make some blueprint out of it if you wanna use them, should help you to get it done. (althought yours didnt seem to be less accurate <.<) And yeah, Ill upload all my ref pics and send you the link. smile.gif

Thank you for giving me some references and this is a biiiiig help smile.gif

I think I can do that. The 1993 is much like the 1991 at least. It uses the same dash so converting to a 1991 should be theoretically easy. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif Getting it to 1996 may need a new dash and few more things.

I started getting the wheelbase and and track from the specs. I may "slightly" deviate from that. I ended up making the body slightly taller than it should then I have to look back and forth with pics to get the proportion properly (sigh, I could have done better next time biggrin.gif )

No problem, Im glad I can help you with this.

Yeah, the 91-93 are pretty much the same cars, everythings the same, the only difference is the rear wheel. The 95/96 caprices have another engine, open rear wheel, other taillights, some rounder 3rd side window, different interior (not only the dashboard but the seats and door panels) and some other minor things.

Thanks doker, yes indeed it been years since I posted my first ever mod on the net (Funny its a 1989 caprice). biggrin.gif

Edit: Thanks to schaefft, one of the ref pics have a high res quarter shot of the car. I figure out why the belt line been bugging me all along. The belt line is darn straight. It actually curves slightly and I can only see it on 3/4 shot. The line from the trunk all the way to the hood now flow more harmoniously.

More update! Comming up slowly and lots of tweaking. The rear fender skirt is added so I can line up the line smoothly. The geometry for 1993 fender still exist.

Looking great, this one will be so good, Im sure even better than SPCs gorgeous Caprice. smile.gif Dunno about the seams that could be there but have you thought about making that rear wheelcover as an extra? You could get both bodystyles on the streets like that, Im just not sure if its too noticable if you detach the part.

making the rear skirt as extra is possible the only tricky part is not messing up the normals so the seams are not visible. I may prefer having 2 dff

Update, still slow. Polycount is about 6754, just an empty shell.

My plan is two version a 1993 and 1991 version. Too lazy to make a 1996.

Heres something Ive noticed, the rear seems to be too high, Im not quite sure why but I think the rearbumper is too small and the trunklid should be more curved on each side (where the seams are). The space between taillight and the flat part of the rearbumper is too big, guess the too small rearbumper could be the problem. Its hard to say something atm because Id need some larger pics and other perpectives of the rear end, wires would help too but here are some pics.

Wow someone is rollin w/ somethin, "ahem schaefft - RMaster" moto_whistle.gif tounge.gif

Now I know the economy is bad and ppl are tryin to cut costs but I'd still like engine/drivetrain, interior for mine bigfoot tounge.gif

Its loox really nice so far smile.gif

Its been a while since I've seen em, hmm but seems like I do member the rear quarter well kinda covering the wheel up abit like the pic you have schaefft but I dont think its so much that it, as in the car, is too high but the qrtr doesnt come down far enough over the wheel, like in the 2 pix, if you notice the contour that runs along the length of the car to both fr/rr bumpers on the model, the wheel opening actually goes above it, BUT in schaeffts pic, there is even a trim piece that the wheel opening is under.

I love big traditional rear drive sedans.

I rarely seen any caprice either. Spotted one in neighbourhood. Craigslist is selling some for cheap mostly ex cop car.

Roadmaster is virtually non existent

Well, browsing throught google streetview I see more roadmasters than caprices on the streets. Wouldnt it be awesome if there was a new Caprice made by GM? I still dont understand why they discontinued cars like these, nobody can tell me that they made more money with their SUVs than the Caprice as popular fleet vehicle. I mean, after like 12 years Ford is still selling their CrownVics, design wise pretty much unchanged since 98, seems like they didnt change the look of it because didnt have to, seems like there are more than enought people buying them. Why shouldnt GM have a car like that?

@bigfoot: Loving the car as much as me, I have to see things like that. lol.gif

Btw I know theres some Chevy Caprice based on the Holden Statesman sold in the middle east, but its kinda not the same. whatsthat.gif

Rumor a while ago, a new impala based on Holden commodore (Pontiac G8) with large V8 is coming up around 2011then GM canned it and they blamed it on fuel economy regulation (insert bullsh*t here).

Ford also negotiated with Ford of Australia to replace the Panther with Falcon based RWD sedan then for some reason it never fly.

In united States, road masters are probably a common sight, in Canada they are very rare. However, Crown Victoria's are pretty common because they are Canadian made and you can get one for about $1500CAD from government auction.

Impalas are basically a 1995-96 model. For now, my priority right now is 1993 and 1991

Actually I am planning to re-model my 1989-90 caprice, but schaefft asked me do 1991-93 one. Beleive me I am chickened out, curvy cars is pretty scary to do (to much for my primitive mind)

Do the 1989-1990 Caprice, please!!!!!!!
There is no good model of that car anywhere. All I can find are low-poly models with not so good textures!
Please do that one too!!!!

My next movei is more likley a Mercedes 600 SEL (I just do some paparazzi from an auto auction)

Movies played a huge role for my in closet love affair with big American sedans.

Haha, I really didnt know it but I saw it the first time I looked at the grill, the real grill is 6 hole?-lines high and 8 rows wide, yours only 5 lines high. biggrin.gif Thats the reason why those holes are pretty high:

The rear is looking great in this perspective, should look great in others as well. smile.gif Great job on fixing it.

schaefft, (first stop peeping through my window to see stuff I'm watching tounge.gif ) I guess basically what you are sayin is
if you call those black "holes" in the grille rows/columns like in a spreadsheet
then the pic has 6 rows and 8 columns smile.gif

bf That is a nice looking convert, so I'm guessing it will have open & closed top version ? making the top hard/soft ?
