INTRODUCTION

There are players on GTA 4 who have learned to use the Annihilator helicopter to a far greater extend than most people have. Instead of chopping other players up with the blades, they fly in first person view and shoot everything up with the guns with great accuracy. Such players are often referred to as "pilots". Fighting such an air-force is a big deal different from fighting people on foot and in cars, therefore many people don't really know what to do against these machines and get killed multiple times.

In this event, a big team of ground troops will take on a smaller team of pilots in various locations and special circumstances.

This event aims at 3 things:

1. Providing the pilots with a bigger challenge.
2. Providing non-pilots (a.k.a. "ground troops") with a chance to play as a team against the pilots.
3. Providing everyone with practice and a great time!

Do you have what it takes to kill a pilot at the airport?

Do you have what it takes to dodge 5+ RPGs coming at you while flying through downtown Algonquin?

RULES

Generally, the settings for these matches will be:

AutoaimDisallow
CopsOff
Friendly fire Off
TrafficParked
PedestriansOff
Location Variable
Duration 20-30 minutes
Weapons Powerful
Blips Far
Gamertag Display On
Reticule Health On
Voice Chat Team Only
Respawn Distance Medium

Rules for all players:
-The first 5 minutes is the arming period:
The arming period is used to grab armor and weapons unless you're a pilot then you grab armor and choppers.
- You may not engage until after the arming period is over.

Rules for Ground Troops:
- No camping at the helicopter spawns.
- Pilots that have crashed their helicopter, but survived, may be killed ONCE.
- When a Pilot has died, you may not attack him until he's in the air again.

Rules for pilots:
- You may not use your blades to kill. However, after being caught on fire you may perform a kamikaze attack.
- While on the ground, you may not attack Ground Troops unless it's to defend yourself.
-No collecting health packs.
-Don't not engage respawned ground troops gathering ammo and armor unless he is refilling his old ammo.

GENERAL GROUND TROOP STRATEGIES

If you ever went up against a decent Pilot, you'll know it requires skill and strategy to best them. Here are some tips to increase your chances:

1. Pilots will be looking for isolated targets, SO STAY TOGETHER! Not so close to each other that Pilots can mow people down 2 and 3 at a time, but close enough so that you are all fighting the same Helis at all times. If you die, arm up and return to the field of battle as quickly as possible!

2. TAKE COVER! Standing in the middle of the street firing into the air is only gonna get you killed. Keep in mind that squatting makes it MUCH harder for the Pilots to see you in that it takes the dot off your head. Combining the squat with hiding in bushes and the like helps as well. Finding a tall object to circle around as you fight is also a good method.

3. WEAPONS: if you have good aim, assault rifles and sniper rifles is the weapons you'll want to use. If you have good timing, you may want to pick up a rocket launcher. Just keep in mind that assault rifles and RPGs may give away your position. You can as well try using the SMG if the pilot is close enough so you can shoot him out.

4. CROUCH, CROUCH, CROUCH!: There are very few things more important to the GTs than making sure you crouch! The Pilots use the dot above a GTs head to get a bearing on you, and when you crouch the dot disappears! Combine crouching with some good cover (especially bushes) and you are practically invisible to them! If you need to move from one place to another, time it between Heli runs or during a lul in the action. If an pilot spots you standing in the middle of the road during action, you are likely to be raped. So, don't forget! CROUCH, CROUCH, CROUCH!

GENERAL PILOT STRATEGIES

Taking down a ground troop is hard if you don't know the general:

1. DODGE: That's the number one thing you gotta do. There is usually 5-6 GT's so there will be snipers, M4's and RPG's flying in the air. So never let your guard down because that will end up badly for you and your helicopter as it will probably blow up into pieces.

2. Be high up and never too close: If you stay too low and too close to your targets you are guaranteed to die. Always be on a safe distance and high enough up in the air to be alive.

3. Always move: No matter what, keep moving. Circling is one of the best things you can do. It is almost impossible to be hit if your always on the move because then no one can get a good aim at you.

And the most important thing: remember to shoot!

MEDALS

Several Medals have been created to be awarded to players for different achievements in these matches. They are as follows:

Hosts: Kinko KaPOW/Zelos302

Matches

Match times haven't come up yet but it will be hosted by me(Zelos) or Kinko KaPOW. The matches, while still intended to be fun, should be taken seriously. All Ground Forces involved in these matches should have the intention of doing everything they can to actually take down the Pilots. This includes following host orders! If you think its lame to take a match like this seriously, or just want to mess about and break rules, then you can just get out because this is a serious event.

AIR/SEA WAR

user posted image
user posted image

The Air/Sea War was after A/G War before as an additional round. Those who did not wish to play in the A/S War could leave after the regular A/G War is finished. It was an experimental event exclusive to Xbox. It is not currently played anymore.

These are the current rules for the Xbox Air/Sea War:

Game settings:

AutoaimDisallow
CopsOff
Friendly fire Off
Traffichigh
PedestriansOff
Location Alderney
Duration 30 minutes
Weapons Pistols
Blips Far
Gamertag Display On
Reticule Health On
Voice Chat Team Only
Respawn Distance Near
Respawn Time 1 second
Time Of DayMidnight or Morning
WeatherClear
The game consists of two teams, The Air Force and The Pirates. It is the pirates' goal to get a Tug from point A to point B, as shown in this map
It is The Air Force's goal to stop them. Air Force may only attack from helicopters but pilots may NOT use the onboard guns like in the regular Air/Ground War. Pirates may only attack from boats. Pirates may glitch inside the Tug.

At the start of the round there's an "arming period".
Pirates Captain will let the Air Force Captain know when they're ready to go

Rules for Pirates:
- You may not engage until after the arming period is over.
- No camping at the helicopter spawns.
- You may engage only from a boat.
- You are allowed to glitch inside the Tug.

Rules for Airforce:
- You may not engage until after the arming period is over.
- No camping at the Tug spawn(s).
- You may engage only from a helicopter.
- You may not use your blades to kill. However, after being caught on fire you may perform a kamikaze attack (but don't abuse this privilege!).

Strategies

Pirate Strategy:

To get on the Tug easily, just press Y when you're near it. However, this only works when nobody is behind the steering wheel, so if you want to let a teammate on your boat while you're driving it, let go of the steering wheel for a second by pressing Y. To walk faster on the Tug, hold LT to aim your gun up.

The Tugboat can withstand a seemingly unlimited amount of damage. However, it has a giant weak spot which consists of the back of the boat up until the cable holders. If the Tug is shot here, it can be taken down in a little over 1 clip of assault rifle bullets. DO NOT STAND ON THE WEAK SPOT!! If you stand on the weak spot, every stray bullet will hit it, so instead walk to the sides or the front, or better yet, use your privilege of glitching inside the Tug. You can do this by standing at the front while the Tug is moving and letting yourself slide through the wall. Once inside walk along with the Tug to avoid sliding out again.

There are two healthpacks along the main route</a> that can be picked up with a Tug, with zero framerate drop (tested out with 1 person). Use them!

If you are killed, pick up the nearest armor and head for the shore. The whole island of Alderney is surrounded by boat spawns, so it shouldn't take long to find one. You could also go for a Tug, but discuss this with your captain first.

Remember, your goal is not to get as many kills as possible, but to get to point B as fast as possible. So make sure the Tug is moving at all times, the Steersman shouldn't stop at all, unless it's to let somebody on the boat.
If the Steersman gets killed, somebody should take over immediately (or after dealing with the Air Force).
There is a possibility that the Tug gets destroyed, so having a second Tug may be a good strategy. You might even opt to each get your own Tug, or get one Tug per two Pirates, but this strategy hasn't been tested out yet.

Air Force Strategy:

You may use either the Maverick or the Annihilator. However, after testing both machines out in combat, the Maverick actually seems to be able to withstand the most damage. The Annihilator looks cooler, but if you don't want to run for a healthpack every 2 seconds, use the Maverick!

You DO NOT want to fill up your helicopter with gunners! Have 2 gunners at the most, both on te right side, so the pilot can keep himself out of the line of fire.
The pilot should pick up a health pack BEFORE the helicopter catches on fire. This is because sometimes a passenger "steals" the health, leaving the engine on fire.
If you die, pick up the nearest armor and ask one of the pilots to pick you up.

Hey everyone...ChrisD here

So much for a cpl weeks...lol

@Booze: I had to come in and fix the headers cuz when you C&Ped the code, it landed them all on the same line and pushed the frame way out. I also did not have the code at home so will have to fix the in-post links later. But, see what I meant when I mentioned this problem in PM?

I think this is gonna be WAY clearer and easier to navigate, for new ppl especially! biggrin.gif

Great job Booze! (but you know I am gonna f*ck with it some, though...lol)

I am very delighted that I can reveal the identity of the aforementioned mystery pro pilot!

It is nobody less than the godfather of Xbox piloting, the one and only that taught most of us the very basics and the one that developed most of the techniques we are still using today:

BOORENS

Yes, baby! The sky force from Canada has agreed to join us!
(now let's hope he's actually online during the matches sigh.gif)

If you still don't know who this is, check out these videos.

The credit goes to BoozeT, bates! He reorganized it and did a very good job, I think! icon14.gif

We are having some coding issues, but once that is solved, I will go make the edits necessary. I also need to add some stuff from the old thread to the PSN post.

I have a PM out to Thread-Master Doc for help.

It was funny last night! Yesterday I told Booze to go ahead and launch the new thread since he had done some good work with it and I am extremely busy lately.

I did not realize, however, that he was launching it immediately! lol

So I am playing BF '43 and all of a sudden like 30 messages come in one after the other. I was like wtf!

"Your Thread is Dead!"

"They Locked your thread, dide!"

"What did you do on the Forum, man?!?"

Funny sh*t! lmao lol.gif
