Tommy, and CJ are American. confused.gif

Vercetti has Italian background, and how can u be so sure that Vercetti's born in USA?

There's nothing to suggest that he was born anywhere else. As far as we know he was born and raised in Liberty City (he was 20 in 1971 when he was arrested). Plus what difference does it make if he has Italian heritage? There isn't a single "American" who doesn't have some form of European blood in their history.

Italian Americans are the fourth largest ethnic group in the U.S. The bulk of Italian immigration occurred before 1960 and was sharply limited by quota after 1924. Someone Tommy's age is more likely than not to be at least first or second generation American. In Vice City, Tommy speaks of his childhood in his father's print shop but he doesn't say "in Italy". Tommy doesn't have an accent that sounds like he ever spoke Italian primarily.

In all likelihood Tommy is from Liberty City.

I don't know. Maybe from fact that his father is from the Dominican Republic? Might have something to do with it. That would make him Afro-Caribbean as opposed to Afro-American.

Not if he was born in America. Born in America = American. No matter what your ancestors are. If his father was Dominican Republican, and Vic was born in America, he's not Afro-Dominican or Afro- Caribbean, he's Dominican-American. (Or whatever suitable amalgamation of those two countries you like, but American is definitely there.)

Niko, Luis, and Huang may be immigrants, but they are still American as long as they are legal to the country. They just weren't born in America. Vic is half DR (or whatever you like to call a Dominican in the U.S.) and half caucasion (don't know his mother's ancestory).

Depends what we're talking about. Nationality and ethnicity are two different things. Just because you are born in one country does not make you a member of that ethnicity. If I was born in America to a British father and Spanish mother I would be an American by nationality buy a Anglo-Spaniard by ethnicity.

Though you're right, Victor is a Dominican-American, though in terms of ethnicity he is of Afro-Caribbean decent.

Why can't Rockstar just pick someone born and raised in American and one who looks like American like Brad Pitt.

Do You have some problems with black or yellow people? The people of the world don't look like a Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie. People got different faces, names, problems, joys and this is fantastic that we're different. Only not American protagonists are Niko Bellic born in Yugoslavia and Huang Lee born in China. Each other is a real american born and raised on american soil biggrin.gif

Let's see...
  • Claude was born and raised in America, for all we know.
  • Tommy was born and raised in America, for all we know.
  • Carl was born and raised in America.
  • Mike was born and raised in America, for all we know.
  • Toni was born and raised in America, for all we know.
  • Victor was born and raised in America, for all we know.
  • Johnny was born and raised in America, for all we know.
Good enough for you?

Brad Pitt is no more American than anyone else. His family floated over on to this country on a ship just like everybody else's. Unless you want a Native American protagonist, you're going to find that every character has a trace of European/Asian/African in them.

America was created by immigrants, so what's the problem with playing as a character that has a mixture of another nation?

Look Americans and English share more than just the color. But Italians, Africans or Cubans are way differ.

I think you'll find it's the other way around, son. If you really believe that the colour of your skin defines your nationality (and not ethnicity) then I think you need to either go back to school or pull your head out of your white trash ass and smell the multicultural roses.
