why all the main character of GTA looks more like an Non-American then an American

Tommy looks like an Cuban

Carl "CJ" Johnson is an African

Niko Bellic is a war veteran from some Eastern Europe

I mean why can't some one like an expelled Marine be rolled as the GTA's Main Protagonist

Tommy isn't Cuban. He comes from a Italian background, but as far as we know he was born in America.

Same deal with CJ. Whilst he's from a African background he was still born in America.

The only character who isn't truly American is Niko, as he wasn't born in America.

Tommy has an Italian background. Born in U.S.?
Carl has an African American background. Born in U.S.?
Toni has an Italian background. Born in U.S.?
Vic has a Dominican background. Born in U.S.?
Niko has an Eastern European background (Serbian is most widely accepted). Immigrant to U.S.
Luis has a Dominican background. Immigrant to U.S.

I don't know what Claude's or Johnny's background is. Claude may be some type of Asian.

You tell him CC. I also have to comment about your sig. again. Packie doesn't look too pleased with Niko's blowjob.

EDIT: By the way, if any of yous don't believe me Luis is an immigrant I'll get pic. proof.

EDIT2: Here it is.

Isn't there something in the game that states that Luis immigrated to Liberty City at a young age? I just always assumed that...

I always figured he was the middle ground between Johnny and Niko. Immigrant, but extremely used to the US...

Claude is American in GTA3 (British in GTA2)
Tommy is Italian-American (Born and brought up in LC)
CJ is African-American (OF COURSE HE WAS BORN IN AMERICA!)
Toni is Italian-American (His father was born in Italy, so Toni either born in Italy too or born in America)
Vic is DR
Niko is Serbian
Johnny is a White American < I assume this is the one you want?
Luis is also DR

Does it really matter? No. I wish there was a GTA General area because this has to do with all the GTA not GTA IV only.

I really believe there should be a General GTA forum also. It would be nice to have a forum where fans can compare GTA games without having the topic not fitting where it is. It would also be nice for that forum if there was pinned poll topics for subjects like "What's Your Favorite GTA?" or "What's Your Favorite Protagonist?".

So does that mean he doesn't count because he's not a White CHRISTIAN American? tounge.gif Johnny was born in America and lived in America all his life, he's white, which I guess what this thread starter wants and he's very American, how much more American does the protagonist need to be? Does he need to be wearing the American flag whilst eating Apple Pie? haha.

We should suggest it to mods... That's where this topic should be!
Also, the term of "Americans" isn't quite... defined BUT to majority if your born in in America.. your American... So, Although CJ is obviously African American.. He's still American.

Haha, no sh*t. That should give it away right there. I hate how people make it look like only whites are Americans. Native Americans are actually true Americans, not us white invaders.

Yeah, you should make a topic in Suggestions forum for a General GTA forum. We really don't need somebody making a topic each month asking which is the best GTA character in a forum based around one GTA (and some of those may be fanboys so the results would differ among other forums).

Probably going to get some hate for saying this, but I really don't like Niko's accent that much. Of course he is an immigrant and it would be really stupid if he had an american accent in the game, but there
is just something bit 'off' the way he talks.

I live in Europe (Finland) and I do a lot of traveling around central, and eastern Europe. I have heard many people speaking english with many different accents, and somehow I just cant 'connect' Niko to any of them.

Probably didn't even had to explain why I don't like it, but it's just the way I feel. Also I find it really annoying when Niko is in a battle and he just screams this useless stuff like "I'M GOING TO f*ckING KILL YOU!!", or something like that. Why does he have to do that?

Interesting point, and no hate from me, I assure you. I am not quite as well travelled as you, so I defer to your greater knowledge regarding accents. However, if you consider that maybe they didn't really want Niko's accent to be bang on and pinpointed to a particular region with complete accuracy. Perhaps it was thought best to keep it a big vague - Eastern European. I personally like his accent and the way he talks, and his shouting out is, I guess, supposed to be in the heat of the moment. Having never been in a shootout, I don't know whether I would shout stuff like "F*ck you!". Probably would though! cool.gif

Saying skin color decides if you're American is outrageously hateful, ignorant and racist whether the topic starter even realizes it or not. I can't believe this topic didn't get insta-locked.

  • Claude (GTA III) is American;
  • Tommy Vercetti (GTA VC) is Italian-American;
  • Carl Johnson (GTA SA) is African-American;
  • Mike (GTA A) is Italian-American;
  • Toni Cipriani (GTA LCS) is Italian-American;
  • Vic Vance (GTA VCS) is Dominican-American;
  • Johnny Klebbitz (GTA IV LT&D) is American.
That good enough for you?

The only characters who weren't American were Niko Bellic (GTA IV) who was Eastern-European, Huang Lee (GTA CTW) who was Chinese and Luis Fernando Lopez (GTA IV BoGT) who is Dominican. That's three out of ten.

Expanding on Jacky's point:
Toni was American, as he has definitely been in Libery City for at least a while before he had to leave.
Victor was in the military. They wouldn't let an immigrant straight off the boat join.
Johnny may be Jewish, but race/nationality and religion....two different things.

Sorry, that's my mistake. I'm confusing the fact that Mike works for Italian-American criminals with the fact that he is Italian-American. Either way though from what we know he is American. Which still, either way, proves the original poster's views wrong.

TonyClifton and Mahi: Being a Serb myself (assuming that Niko himself is Serbian), his accent isn't exactly that spot on. Considering Michael Hollick isn't a native speaker of Serbian, he does pretty well while pronouncing some words (as does Jason Zumwalt), however with some words, you can automatically tell (well I can, but I speak Serbian) that they're not native speakers, which can be forgiveable. For example, like in the mission "Roman's Sorrow", when you find Roman in the boot of his car, Niko says sorry in Serbian, and he says it as 'Izveni', when however, in the Serbian language, it should be pronounced 'Izvini' or 'Izvinite'. They're not huge differences, but for you, it probably made no difference, but for me I automatically picked it up as simply an error in pronounciation.

As for the topic at hand, as far as I'm concerned, isn't Johnny Klebitz American? His last name sounds German, and Germany is the largest location of ancestry for White Christian Americans, so he's definitely American I assume.
