This is very helpful, this is definitely going to help me with Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch games, not so much racing as I am very skilled at it.

BOMB DA BASE II: Pulled this off before and it's worth noting that most people forget about the sniper rifle till they get to the boat. As I generally am going for time vs money, I tend to use strictly the Micro-SMG.

However, there are times you get killed pulling up to the truck (generally when somebody else is driving), get a late start, whatever. Keeping in mind that if the back doors are open to the armored car, you can kill the driver, I was in a random game, passenger, they had traffic on. We get to the armored car late, they are already a full 2 block away and accelerating. I jumped out, sniped the driver dead on through the back window. The other 2 guys with mics had 0 clue what happened and at first didn't believe me when I said I sniped the driver.

Ideally they figure it out.

Anymore, there really is no reason to go for anything other than the driver unless the back doors are closed.

When flying, if you miss the top of the boat, there is actually an easy way to land without crashing. Just approach the top deck when you'd normally crash, face on. You can land just slightly to the left or right and get the chopper stuck. This helps when you get stuck with n00bs who do stupid sh*t like land the chopper near the boat or if, like I said, you miss the landing.

Random tip.

In story mode you have to keep taping X to sprint fast. ( PS3 )
but in multiplayer, you can just hold down the X button to sprint fast.
your thumb will thank you later. icon14.gif

(single player only)
Camera Stopping: While in a car, get going to full speed. Now pull out phone and go to camera, as soon as you take the picture you will come to a complete and instant stop. This works great for missions where you cannot damage a vehicle. Also in races (singleplayer) to avoid crashing. and it's just fun to play around with.
NOTE:this does not work for helicopters, or when your car is in the air. .
I don't remember which mission gives you the camera phone.

when chased on foot by a car, run straight ahead, with the camera looking over your shoulder so you have a clear view of the driver.
he will think its a done deal as hes aproaching you in high speed, but then you make a 360 turn just before hes about to hit you, get your gun out and spray that car down.

this is neat! i got some:

snipers

- if you got the time, go for a head shot. if not, 3 body shots will guaranty death, even with full health and armor.

- the crouching up and down/body thing is REALLY useful if you have a sh*t sniper rifle.

- if you shoot someone, MOVE. cause no one likes to get sniped and you better believe they are coming for revenge. nothing better than picking somone off when they are looking where you USED to be. (this is good in blips off)

- dont waste time zooming in, i get sh*tloads of sniper kills (using the body shot technique) while some idiot is trying to zoom in on my head.

- also, if youre in a TDM, and can only get 1 or 2 shots in, no worries. let a closer teammate finish them off...a kill is a kill in TDM.

race

- if youre in first place/traffic is on, shoot at other cars while you are passing them. theyll do a crazy swerve into the middle of the road, and slam into anyone behind you.

- if you decide to kill in GTA RACE, get an eagle and get on the drivers side of a sharp turn, but not right at the turn, a few feet after so when they slide, they are right in front of you. also DO NOT kill close to your last check point, cause if someone gets you, youre f*cked. try to kill across the map so that you spawn far away.

- if someone is killing you over and over again (cause thats where you spawn), leaving is NOT your only option. i run at them (youre invinsible for a few seconds) and punch them. you might have to do it 5 or 6 times, but eventually they will die or leave to go get health. also, run away, try and get as far as you can (through alleys and around corners) then when they chase/kill you, you respawn and they are still far. RUN THE OTHER WAY!

battle

- MAKE THEM COME FOR YOU!!! some people are ridiculously good. deal with it. don't run straight at them. you're just running right into range. be patient. kill them with a sniper shot. that will piss them off and they WILL come after you.

- DONT GET MAD!!! everyone gets thier asses kicked. deal with it. its just a game. regroup. when you lose your cool, you start making mistakes and getting owned. then you get even angrier. and lord help you if the person tormenting you is some 12 year old with a mic...

- this is good if blips are off and in DIS. if you switch to a one handed weapon (knife, frags, smg) stand about doors' length away from a car. hit the button to take cover. when your person starts to take cover, hit the button to get in the car (got to do it BEFORE they get to cover). when you get in the car, the blip/name above your head disappears. i once followed an ENTIRE TEAM around taking them out, they had no idea i was in one of the cars at the red light next to them. also, when you get out you still dont have a blip until you shoot or hit the button to crouch.
NOTE: someone else will have to tell you if your blip is off, you cant tell on your screen.

- on leader blips, if youre not the leader, get close to the leader and wait for people to come get him, they will never see you. when you are the leader stay crouched, there is no use running anywhere, they know where you are and their coming.

- in AA, there are spots in cover where you can lock on and not expose your head...FIND THEM.

- if youre taking cover on a the edge of a wall, try and do it where your left shoulder is on the wall...your player is right handed and wont expose thier whole body when you shoot.

- THIS IS MY FAVORITE. if you are having a stand off with someone that is around the corner (same building) from you and neither of you want to pop your head out, run to the corner behind you (imagine a square building). if your opponent starts running to the corner to get to where you just were, quickly turn around and run back, they will never have time to make it back to thier original spot and they are f*cked.

cheers

By the way, in race mode theres two different sorts of NRG, NRG R and NRG RR, (One with windmirrors one looks like a bullet), The bullet one i think is much more agile.

As jewb said about the 900's, the 900R has one big headlight, where as the 900RR has 2 smaller lights (one on top of the other)
Not sure if there is any difference in handling though. Anybody shed some light on this?

About the comet, as people have said. When you get used to the way the car drives, your onto a winner!
The comet is also the fastest accelerating too because of the 'launch control' you will easily have a car length between you and the next car by the first corner on most tracks!

For me, on twisty tracks, the pcj600 will be quicker than the 900 as it's a better handling bike!
But this is down to personal preference.

RACING
1st off this is a hard one to described. So sorry no video. confused.gif

"CURB GRABING"
I noticed that curbs in racing can do 2 things.
1. A curb if hit too fast while turning can cause your car to roll over. (avoid obviously)
2. If done correctly, you can use curbs to sling shot yourself coming out of a turn. How?
The curb kinda lifts the side of the car, causing you to turn sharper, allowing you to take the turn at a higher speed. Kinda like "WALL BUMPING" where you nodge against a curved lane divider to gain a slight boost. It slightly lifts your car making the engine rev up, upon coming down you get a slight boost. Curbs work in the same manor.
If anyone knows what I'm talking about and provide a video or better discription, it would be helpful. Like I said this is a hard one to describe. confused.gif

I thought it was a mail-shot at first, sent to thousands, but I got this

Hey Joey,

Thank you for getting back to us and awesome forum thread you linked to!  We love seeing your enthusiasm for Grand Theft Auto IV Multiplayer.

Here's some questions we were wondering:

Do you have any expert GTAIV Multiplayer strategies you can share that separate you from other players and help put you at the top of the leaderboards?  General strategies and also ones specific to certain modes you like to play?

What's your favorite Multiplayer mode, weapon and map section - what do you really like about them?  What do you find most fun?

What tips would you give to someone just starting out playing GTAIV Multiplayer modes?

Much appreciated in advance - we're really looking forward to hearing what you have to say!

Thanks again,
Rockstar Games

I just sent this e-mail off in reply

QUOTE
Hiya R*,

Thanks for getting in touch, I really wasn`t expecting someone to click on the link - nice! And thank you also for making such an unbelievably amazing MP experience. No other goes from being heart-stoppingly intese in one moment, to being LMFAO hilarious in the next. Although I`d only describe myself as just above average, I`ll try to answer your questions.

The most important thing is to know the settings which the host has made, and how they will affect gameplay. I go on XBL and have all my preferences set to off, but the other settings can have a dramatic effect on what your strategy is going to be, so always try to use the settings to your advantage. I always check what Reticule Health and Gamertag are set to. When they are on, they will show up on your opponent when they are in range of your weapon - good to know when their gun has greater range, so you can take up a defensive position and let them come on to you.

My favourite mode is Team Deathmatch with randoms - no two matches are ever the same - and my favourite weapon is the SMG. Up close or at a distance, it`s a great all-rounder, and you`re more mobile with it than with the assault rifle. The best area of the map is South Bohan, around Windmill St. station. There`s more enterable buildings and opportunities to get a height advantage - the Sprunk warehouse, the station and tracks, the apartment rooftops and the unfinished bridge give that area a vertical feel.

To any newcomers to GTA IV multiplayer, I`d say make friends online and do ranked party mode matches with the best players You`d be amazed at the knowledge you can pick up around that old casino. Also, join a fansite such as GTAForums and we`ll share our knowledge with you.

Yours,
Joey.

I can't remember if this has already been covered but, if you are in a street gunfight, there are few advantages to being out in the open. Not only can your enemy see you better if you are out in the open, you will also have a significantly lower opportunity to make any possible escape.

Stay close to walls to so you can run for cover against solid objects or to reduce your chances of being seen. Depending on the settings of your game (like a Far/No blip distance), you can reduce your chances of getting killed by snipers on high buildings by (literally) running right under their noses.

The only time staying close to walls is a bad idea is when you are being targeted by people with RPGs or cars. People in cars will have an easier time running over you because you will have less room to run/roll/jump away (and they will know what direction you will try to evade from.) People with RPGs will have a much easier time if you are near objects because they know that the explosion can also hit behind the person they are targeting.

Reducing your chances of getting killed almost always helps you in staying alive.

Thanks Sick, anti-air is actually less hard than it looks. It's just that most people don't practice it. But if more people start being good at it, those pilots are gonna be in for a treat happy.gif

Damn! I`ve been leading my shots even in mid-range gunfights for a long time now, I`ll have to cut that crap out! There`s a lot of well described info on general gunplay in those vids too, it`s very well put together.

In all the time I`ve played this game, I`ve only ever shot down one chopper with a rocket launcher, and never killed a pilot with a rifle, I`ve hit a few pilots, and set a few choppers on fire but I think the quickest way to down them is by teamwork which is rare when playing with randoms.

Booze T nailed it when he said it's a matter of practicing it.
I use to spend all day on the airport building next to the helicopters just to practice it. I would purposely shoot players once or twice (not killing them) on their way to the heli, to get them to attack me so I could practice. Sometimes when that didn't work I would just message them asking them to attack me in the annihilator. Sounds despite I know lol

I liked the whole half trigger trick. firing off a couple of shots then releasing to half trigger then a couple of shots and so on. Its a pretty handy trick. i did the try shooting the wall with each weapon to see how is best way to shoot it. holding the trigger with all weapons results in off target shots.

Any guys got any PRO tips for shooting and strafing, as this is where I lose most 1 on 1 battles ?

I currently can't decide on a pattern so move randomly from side to side (as I found only moving in one direction not to be very effective against good players) I also have my aim speed set to normal, I did experiment with slow and found it better for these encouters but this pro was far more outweighed by the con of not being able to deal with cars as the reticle could not keep up with the action.

Any good tips appreciated ! smile.gif

Your right about the strafing.
You wanna be as unpredictable
as possible.
I think you pretty much know all the tips.
Now it's a matter of serious practice.
I use to practice houres past when the sun came up.
Even if I had to work morning shift.
I didn't care.
It payed off eventually.

I have been practicing for many a moon now !! will just have to keep it up, most of the time I tend to avoid 1 on 1 in the open but in some locations, like the airport you just have to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in ! it just seems i win about half of these encounters yet when fighting in my style I win 90%................. Just thought there might be a little tip I was missing ?

Thanks for the fast responce Sick, I just knew you would be the first to reply wink.gif your always there for some handy TDM/DM support
