There's a glitch with guns that you can do, simply hide behind something (car, wall, etc.) and aim your SMG/Assault Rifle around the corner. Begin to fire, and switch to a different weapon such as a Shotgun, Pistol, or another slow shooting weapon.

If you do it correctly the slower weapon will fire at the same speed as the SMG/Assault Rifle.
In cover, empty the clip, right when your about to finish reloading, switch weapon 2 shotgun (holding the trigger the whole time) you can make the rate of all weapons fire at the smg/assault rate of fire. except for rpg sad.gif and sniper, but with shotgun. I almost instantly exsploded passing by car. lol

1. if someone is shooting you...move.
2. if the blips are anything but all, crouch occasionally, for surprise attacks.
3. if blips are all, use the advantages of whatever gun you have, don't waste time going off for your favorite gun. if you have an SMG, get kinda close and keep charging toward your enemies, guns blazing. if you've got an assault rifle, stop before getting too close and see if they take the bait and move toward you. wait, aim, shoot.
4. only use a car for transport. don't try attacking with it, unless you know the other players aren't good enough to take you out. practice drive-bys, and don't drive straight at your target. learn to swerve.
5. if you're in the middle of the road and face an oncoming car, take a quick breath, and as Mae King Fuch said, remain calm. if you don't have a rocket, aim for the drivers head with whatever weapon you're holding. only take a few quick shots and exit the shooting view. whether or not you've killed him, exit the shooting view early to give yourself time to dodge the car with a jump or a roll.
6. either learn to fly and shoot with the chopper, or learn to defend yourself against it.
7. be aware of your suroundings and expect someone to shoot you in the back. while in a firefight, don't forget about that other blip on the radar creeping up on you.
8. understand that some other players will be cheating. either by controller, glitch, or mod. and understand that not everyone is. sometimes you just suck.

I`ve updated with some realy good ideas. what I`d like to do is get a few players together and go down to the casino on party mode and do a full test of weapons and armour, so let us know if you can do that and what times you are available.

Don`t worry if all of your ideas went in first time I sift and re`sft the posts when I do an update.

We've examined the shotgun and it's relation to armor. The results are quite surprising.
If you shoot someone in the head at short range, the result will be the same as with any other gun (except the sniper rifle): if the target has full health it will leave him with just enough health to stay alive. If the target has full health + armor he will be left with full health and one bar of armor. If shot again in the head, the target will be left with just enough health to stay alive.

However, a shot to the chest at close range will ALWAYS kill the target, even if he has full health and armor!

boorens18 has some nice sh*t. Really good stuff.

I was waiting for one of these threads to come out. I actually wrote a friggen long ass guide in a microsoft doc. on pure gunning combat, but never got to posting it here. Maybe one day it'll come. Ive shared it with a few people already. SickR and Human Nature. I wrote the whole guide myself, and added in the 180 trick a while back from sickrage. Like a month ago i think. Anyway, this guide is good for people who are learning tricks. But it does need some gaps filled in. tounge.gif

Its actually not that big of deal killing someone in the car. And i dont know why you would exit shooting view, because all i do is keep it in shooting view and move to the side. They never hit me. Why? Physics.

Their car is at too high of a speed to make a sharp turn with the analog stick, so they cant hit me. Plus, the way gta is, whenever you exit shooting view, and you try to accelerate quickly and run, your man always has some kinda laggish lazy way of not doing it quickly. He waits for about a split second then starts to run. Its the way R* programmed the game, because niko acts the same way.

Usually, if your really good, you'd already have them dead before they ram you head on so you wont have to worry about the problem of that.

What I do is crouch and let them think im stationary. While their coming at you, try to head shot them. once they get to close, Use the roll. Then after they pass, do the 180 and again try to take them out. It's like Bull fighting. and it works 90% of the time for me. icon14.gif

NOTE: Be ready to roll eailer then you would exspect, do to lag and super cars.

yeah, i've noticed that split second lag when you exit the shooting view, too. but it works for me, no one usually runs me over. but i never use the roll move, usually just jump or turn away. and yeah i agree, if you're good, you'd have killed the driver anyway, but i thought we were giving advice to people who aren't good.

GTA Race:
Tactics:
- If there is a large group of racers and more than 4 laps, try staying behind the pack. There will most likely be a lot of crashes and you can just pass all the cars.

- If your in a race in which you start off with large vehicles, at the beginning of the race get out and find a car. You'll have a better chance of catching up and beating most of the larger/slower trucks.

X2

some others i can think of...

-Desert Eagle is always better than the 9

-Shooting out tires is easer than headshots

-You don't have to stick to the course. I a griefer is blocking the road, go around, just make sure to find a way to pick up the checkpoint. This usually involves taking the next block and coming back. Driving while high, Star Junction, ant the airport are some bad tracks for this, but there is all ways another way around.

-Use traffic to your advantage.

-You can always drive on the sidewalk!

-Try to make it to the health if its close by, even if your car is on fire!

-If you have to jump out, watch out for traffic/parked cars, telephone poles, and other racers.

-There is this thing called brakes, use them. Another trick is just letting off the gas. This is useful on sharp corners.

-Have grenades and tailgaters? No problem. The first or second beep should do it. Just don't wait for three beeps!

-If the car ahead of you had grenades, stay to the right/passenger side of him.

-Be aware of the weather. Rain and muscle cars are a bad mix.

-Try sticking to the road, hopping the curb does funny things to the car's handling. Esp. true for bikes.

that's all I have right now. Nice topic icon14.gif

Thanks Spaghetti & TheKid for those GTARace tips. I might even have a go at that mode now, haha.

I`m pretty useless at driving but luckily so are many others, and that`s how I managed to get the `Top of the Midnight Club` cheevo.

I still don`t know what are the fastest or best cars in each class are tho.

Fact: In any game mode when you take cover it seems like your firepower increases when you attack with L2 and you can kill anyone instantly with almost any weapon. can be very useful at times.

If using a shotgun with AA on wait till you are close to your target, shoot once while standing, then crouch and shoot then stand up and shoot again. Try to do in succession, makes for faster killing of opponent

General Combat
Fact: Infernus provides an incredible amount of cover for doing driveby's. From the back, there is only a small window PLUS there is a high seat back as well. You can pretty much pull up and past any n00b, then shoot behind you without too much worry. Downside: they catch on fire pretty quickly.

If you don't mind a slower moving vehicle, the Truck (big rig, found at the Docks) or the Dumptruck are great. They both take an immense amount of damage and it's virtually impossible to hit somebody in the vehicle from behind.

Tactic: In a match with assault rifles, when ever running. Switch weapon to knife or fist, to run quicker. This works great in a begining of a TDM match when everyone scrambles for the armor or Carbine. If on ps3 remember to hold L1 and push up on the D Pad to switch right back to AK-47 or M4 quickly. Quick running can also allow you to catch someone thats running away, if they run with gun equipt.

FACT/Tactic: Quick switch
The quick switch is a useful tool, and is the way around having to cycle through your weapons.
Just hold L1 and push a different direction on D-pad to jump to different weapon types.
    Quick switching
  • L1 + up = Smg, assault rifles
  • L1 + right = grenades, molotovs
  • L1 + left = pistols
  • L1 + down = Shotguns
*default configuration
It would be nice if we could customize this to our own preference.

@Horseman of the Apocalypse: Thx for the shotgun tip. I tested it out and it works well. You can fire the shotgun as fast as you can crouch and stand. It speeds up the rate of fire for the sawed off, as you don't have to wait for him/her to cock it LOL. Nice one bro.

EDIT: O and the auto aim thing isen't a must. For Disallow I found if you wait for a player to come around a corner, It's most effective.

I dabbled with this in a shotgun match today. LOL I got some hate mail, calling me a cheater/modder LOL oh the beauty of small tricks and tactics.

@lastikboy95: Sorry bro but taking cover does not make your bullets stronger. You try taking cover against me in a disallow match, and I will own you. Add me, and I will prove it. Covers gonna get you killed in a disallow match, against the ELITE.

It is on Xbox...nice one SICKRAGE. I never knew that! I have this mental block which makes me think the SMG is a weaker weapon than the the combat shottie, so I ALWAYS go from shottie to knife, damn it`s so annoying. I`ll be testing that on my next match.

RACING

Car control: (PS3)
While car is in the air, hold the X button and move the left analog stick in the direction you want to turn the car.
This has saved me from crash landing alot Which can make the difference between a WIN or a LOSE.
ALSO: I'm pretty sure this will work on all platforms, just not sure what button you would push. (X-BOX, PC)

This isn't just a race trick, but anytime your car is in the air. some people just let off the gas before going airborne and when landing, and that also works, but you lose speed. NOT GOOD

EDIT: @ II J0SePh X II
You forgot to credit me for the quick switch, LOL no biggie though
Oh! and really nice banner you got for this thread, looks hella nice.
And if this doesn't go up in the race section, I would totally understand,
I just use it mostly in Race.

And if this doesn't go up in the race section, I would totally understand,
I just use it mostly in Race.

i used the same technique with the motorcycle while doing the stunts, it was necessary to keep it balanced to land properly

While on a bike you can turn in the air without holding the x button, it's only necessary while in a car. I do alot of stunting myself, mostly getting to hard to reach places like rooftops, with the 900.

Curbs and bikes:
Going over a Curb on a bike can be deadly. So just lean foward by holding up on the L3 stick. If you like stuntig on the 900, this will open up alot more possibilities. Especially at the airport. smile.gif

Are you sure about that? 'Cause I know I can control the tilt of a car by shifting weight with the left stick (this works when the car is on the ground, too) but I don't think I've ever held the handbrake while doing it...

I do know about the bike glitch though. As long as you're holding gas in the air, the physics are kind of screwed up, preventing you from doing complete flips. Release the gas in the air if you want to stunt with a bike.

Yeah! I'm positive, don't believe it, jump your car and give it a try.
I think you can also use R1 which is the alternate hand brake.
Try first to turn car in air, without hand brake. (won't work)
Then try turning car in the air using my method. (glory)

oh! and the bike thing isen't a glitch, but a trick.

It's true. This is especially helpful when doing either of the jumps in Dealbreaker, mainly the Highway jump.

This thread gets my vote for "Best MP Thread of the Year" (so far)!!!

I am going to print out the OP and tape it to my beer fridge!!! lol

About controling cars in the air: I actually use the Sixaxis control...and it works VERY well. Just tilt the controller in the direction you wish your vehicle to go and it does! Wanring: sometimes hard not to 'Over-Steer', but once you get it...it really helps!

I have a GTA Race Tip...but have to wait til I get home from work.

EXCELEENT POST!!! Thanks! icon14.gif icon14.gif
