any sniper-type weapon will work
what u have to do is to shoot at the region enclosed by the orange line
(look at picture1)
(you have to face the front of the helicopter in order to shoot at that region,
sometimes the heli might be too close to you, if this happens, just run away a little bit from it and you can see and shoot at that region)

this should work no matter the helicopter is moving or not
but of course shooting at correct region when it's moving is harder

(maybe shooting somewhere near the region enclosed also work, but i don't know detail about it, need to be tested)
pic2 (1 shot & the heli will go out of control, crash into something & explode)

with this trick, you can possess other slot 9 weapon (other than rocket launcher) without needing to worry about the police heli, as you can always use a slot 10 weapon(sniper type) to destroy it quickly!

-------------------
note: other normal method for destroying police heli:
shoot heli with:
m60: take 36 ammo
minigun: take 176 ammo
(hard to believe, as minigun does more damage as stated in the weapon.dat!)
rocket launcher: 1 & for all...
other weapons: take even more ammo i believe, not to be attempted......
(
sub-machine guns (eg. mp5,uzi) : 180 ammo
grenade with detonator/rocket from tank cannon: hell, it seem the police heli is immune to them
)
-------------------

edit: new finding: shooting at other region also works

This is probably well-known to some, but to others this will prove very useful so... thanks for taking the time out to share with us. icon14.gif

When you shoot in the directed region, it doesn't destroy the helicopter, instead it kills the person who his maneuvering the chopper about. Obviously if he is dead then the chopper is going to lose control and eventually get destroyed.

This method can be a lot more useful than using the Rocket Launcher, as if you do use that heavy artillery & the chopper is relatively close to you, the impact will deduct your life as well as the choppers.

1st of all thank for your reply

but there is 1 thing that i can't agree with you:

i think the police heli in gtavc is much like a full-winged dodo in gta3
there is no one driving in it
these "vehicle" don't explode upon the bigbang cheat code indicating that they aren't real "vehicle"

shooting the guy driving the heli will work on other real helicopter
but not on police heli

so the reason why this trick work on destroying police heli is still unknown OR at least this can't be explained by the fact that the one driving it is killed ( as no one drive it)

if i am wrong, please let me know

What I was insinuating with that is that the game seems to have been designed to make it appear as if somebody is in the chopper. If you shot in the direction of the drivers side of the chopper, and nothing happened, you'd think something was wrong. So, although nobody is technically there (we know that because if there was they would open their door and fall to the ground upon being shot), the game has made it appear that there is, to make it seem reasonable instead of nonsensical.
