i was out on a picnic, when i got back, i was out of it and decided not to care when i saw my goldfish was out of the bowl, the next morning, after like 12 hrs i got my head straight and threw the dried out fish corpse back in the bowl and now it's dandy swimming in circles like an idiot... or me when i'm high. but folk insist goldfish die after a minute out of water and i'm bullsh*ttin', hence i want credible forumal clarification to win a bet: how long do goldfish survive out of water?

much obliged

A goldfish can survive around 15 or 20 minutes out of water, but it would be suffering, and not comfortable. It would be cruel to subject them to this.

So, uh, why didn't you put it in the bowl from the very beginning?

But I have to say, that's fairly cool. Good for the fish, eh?

It's most likely swimming around in circles like due to severe brain damage. tounge.gif

So, you ignored the fish for 12 hours? We should do the same thing with you: put you in a room with zero oxygen for 12 hours straight... oh wait, that'd make a great test.

How can you even do such a thing? How the heck did he even get out of the bowl?

for some reason i thought a picking up a fish on the floor was not worth the effort - i'm like a old lady when it comes to handling substances, my fish on the other hand is like superfish x the incredible fish x that guy who wrestled a boa constrictor... except in fish form, he's 9yrs old and is on a diet of lettuce and other remains of my sandwiches and he's twice as big as my other fish, come to think of it he's awsomeful!

so i guess it was like a miracle, when god's not busy causing tornados or not existing, he puts in a special effort to save my fish

What a load of sh*t. You had me going for a bit, though. Nine year old lettuce eating goldfish survives 12 hours of oxygen starvation? Does it look like Jesus, too?

Out of curiosity, and cos I'm bored at work, I googled 'how long can a goldfish live without water'. Apparently there's quite a few people that have done the same as you, assumed the fish is dead and left it for later to sort out. Then many hours later when they come to pick the goldfish up it's still moving.

I think personally it's a second wave of evolution from the water. And this time it's an evil wave of goldfish bent on world domination. First step is leaving their bowls, second will be regrouping and storming all major communication centres.

For gods sake, don't leave your gun cabinet unlocked or any knives lying around where the fish can get them. You have been warned!

(I personally welcome our new masters and will gladly assist our goldfish overlords in return for some sort of title and immunity from the undersea concentration camps that the rest of humanity will surely be facing)

after like 12 hrs

Either your goldfish is a mudskipper or it is in fact Alexandra Paul from Baywatch season 3.

So, choose, which one is it?

Yeah, I've invested heavily in dried brine shrimp futures in anticipation of the rise of our new leaders. I'll rule the world!

I'm not in the C9 "gang", and I still call bullsh*t.

What the hell were you doing with a goldfish at a picnic anyway?

What is this C9 you speak of and what gave you the impression that it was a gang?

Regardless, your story seems a bit far fetched.
