Nice work on your idea. I think a M72 LAW rocket launcher would work better than a RPG-7.

Thank you Flesh.

The problem with the M72 LAW, though, is that it is a one-shot anti-tank weapon which means it can only fire off one round before being discarded. The RPG-7 can be reloaded and fired again - thus is the reason I chose it over the M72.

EDIT: I included a description of three of the gangs (Lupisella Family, Corvino Family and Hai Phong) to the second post. I am still looking for suggestions for gangs if anybody would like to make a recommendation. I don't want anymore mafia families though, thank you.

Wow, you've got some great ideas so far. I'd love to have a future GTA in Las Venturas. I like the robbery/extortion elements you have. It's similar to what The Godfather games have. The grifting element sounds very interesting. Being able to interact with peds was something I really liked in San Andreas and grifting is taking that to the next level.

The story line is well-thought out. Classic. Great potential to recapture what made Vice City so great. My only concern is that we've seen the Mafia so often in GTA. However, for me, most important things in GTA is character and plot and you certainly have that, if just the basic outline. Great start so far. I'll go back and read through the other few pages now.

I love the updates so far, keep it up and you should seriously save all of this data somewhere, losing this would be...stupid.

Updated Robberies and Gambling. Expect to see Side Missions added soon.

I've also been brainstorming a new character: Vinnie.

user posted image

Vinnie is a mechanic who owns a garage in Shawdale. Johnny meets Vinnie after he is exiled from Las Venturas and starts working for him doing various automotive related missions. Later on Johnny convinces Vinnie to turn his garage into a chop shop and he starts stealing cars for him to salvage.

After a while Vinnie will reward you by allowing you to ring him up and getting him to tow away destroyed or damaged vehicles. He will fix them for you and return them to your nearest safehouse several hours later.

What do you think?

Thank you.

I also thought of a random mission:

Working for a drug smuggling group in the badlands, Johnny will be tasked with shooting down several Hai Phong planes that are transporting drugs in and out of the county. He will have to board a Rustler at Underton Public Airport and take them down using the mounted machine gun.

Random characters:

Ms. Sullivan-A gambling addict.

Mr. Swanson-A disgruntled farmer.

Bertha-A fat woman wanting exercise.

And BTW, I wrote a new "Lincoln Enquirer" article. A reference to Las Venturas is in there.

I've gotta say, that would be great. I'd spend hours on that. Proberly annoying, controller throwing, button mashing hours, but fun nontheless.

One of my favorite scenes in the 'Casino' movie is when Robert Dinaro's character is hounded by one of the powerful locals for firing one of his relatives. Which turned out badly for his character later on in the movie. Anyways, you should include some sort of local commission that has control of certain areas. Remember, these gangs you have so far would be coming from the outside to LV. This may make the locals either happy, with the right amount of money, or very nasty.

Also, I'm no weapons guy but, try trading the SAW in the heavy weapons for a BAR, and maybe even throw in a tommy gun, since both of these were in quantity after the war.

/my 2 cents

otherwise nice work Jackie

Those are some pretty good ideas Goose, thank you. Maybe you could expand them to include possible mission ideas for each character?

Thank you. It was a random thought, though I'll probably include it into the story somewhere. I just need to come up with a few more gangs to include in the badlands area of Las Venturas.

Good point. I might change it so that the Corvino are a local outfit, rather then them being from outside Las Venturas. Though I sort of wanted to get the feeling that the mafia are moving in and taking over the city.

I also included a temporary logo, though I have it on good authority that CCPD is working on a new one for me. smile.gif

Cool... I like the 70s setting, I assume there will be a lot of influence from Casino. You asked for gangs which is one of my areas of expertise... but I'm kinda struggling with it. You said no more Mafia families which for a 1970s based game kinda makes a problem as to my knowledge they were the ones that were most active in Vegas at that time... I do have a few ideas though. While the Irish and Jews as ethnic criminal organizations to my knowledge didn't have true stakes in Vegas at the time... there were plenty of Irish and Jewish guys working for the Italians (Frank Rosenthal for example)... plus guys like Bugsy Siegel and Meyer Lansky historically had major operations there. Point is it would be a bit of a stretch but you could include the Jewish and Irish Mobs. Another possibility would be a black crime syndicate like those of Frank Lucas or Nicky Barnes... both were hugely active in New York in the 1970s and worked with the Italians... having them moving some operations out to Vegas wouldn't be a huge stretch either. One last idea would of course be bikers which could work well in the badland small southwest towns you described as they definitely had and still do have a very strong presence in those areas.

Thank you Mafioso, those are some good contributions. I was thinking of including the Irish Mob who would work as hired muscle for the various crime families. They would be led by "Baby Face" O'Malley:

user posted image

As for African-American gangs, me and Zilcho were discussing creating a gang based on the Supreme Team from New York. They would operate in the badlands and would be in control of the cocaine ring there. Maybe something based on the Black Panthers? Proto-gangbangers who would offer lots of blaxploitation opportunities.

Biker gangs are a definite. Maybe the Angels of Death or The Lost, since they were both formed following the end of the Vietnam War? They would really suit the badlands area.

I'll work on those tomorrow, thank you again. smile.gif

At the moment we've got: Lupisella Family, Gambetti Family, Corvino Family, Hai Phong, African-American Gang/Panthers, Irish Mob and Bikers. I think a few more will do. tounge.gif

I'll include the Fly-US but it wont be flyable.

Why not?

Because Johnny is a mafia associate not a airline pilot.

I'm happy to include some of the smaller planes since they will be useful for traveling across the desert but I don't see the point in having a passenger jet because the map wont be large enough to actually travel anywhere in it without having to land again. Most of the cities are grouped together in the southern half of the map with Las Venturas with Muskrat being up in the north.

EDIT: Updated the first post to include descriptions for the cities and towns/villages in Las Venturas County (except Las Venturas). List of gangs to come soon.

Fair enough. But it still is unrealistic that you couldn't fly them. Just because you couldn't do it in missions doesn't mean you can't just steal it when your screwing around, or at multiplayer. Maybe you could get in and attempt to steal it, but it's impossible to fly like the dodo in GTAIII?

Hey Jacky I think you should have a gang of calssic hard working americans. Cos most gangs in GTA seem to be of ethnic minorities and itd be cool to see a gang of average americans. Maybe involved in a white collar crime tounge.gif . Or you could have some angry 'Nam vets selling weapons they stole from there armoury or whatever.

That's a good point. That's why I was planning on including a biker gang(s). They would be made up of Vietnam veterans who are angry with the way they are being treated following the war; they would be competing with the Ultimate Team/Hai Phong for control of the narcotics ring in the badlands.

I don't know whether to use The Lost (since they were created following the Vietnam War), The Angels of Death (created in 1949) or make up my own motorcycle gang. Either way, they will be one of the major gangs Johnny works for in the badlands.

Maybe you could focus on The Lost, and play off there increasing growth and there increasing rivalry with Fierro based Angels of Death? The Lost would be more interesting if made up of Vietnam Vet's, there would be a lot of mixed feelings, something that wasen't really touched on with Big Mitch Baker & his gang in Vice City, although we were told he won the Purple Heart for killing a village of Viet Cong

I've decided to come up with my own biker gang, actually - considering the fact that the Angels of Death were created before the Vietnam War and the Lost were founded elsewhere.

The Mongrels M.C.

user posted image
Calling themselves the "Biggest Group of Misfits and Outcasts in America"; the Mongrels M.C. are made up of disgruntled Vietnam Veterans who were unhappy with the treatment they received following the end of the war. They are led by Harry "Big Dog" Barker and his Road Captain Simon "Howlin' Mad" Mitchell. The Mongrels operate out of their clubhouse in Shawdale and are known to dabble in various illicit activies including; drug dealing, money laundering, robbery, extortion, murder and assault.

I like every idea you've come up with jacky- especially robbing banks and getting a different wanted level. I'd love that.

Here's an idea for a gang: Skaters

user posted image

Although not involved in crime, these guys could be hired to cause trouble for Johnny- by him or by his enemies!

Also a "rival" team of conmen ala the rat pack could feud with johnny for the most lucrative cons. "Longcon" missions, complete with hilarious dialogue ala the hit BBC comedy "Hustle", could feature in GTA for the first time, with the mission success based upon the player's skill with the Grifting feature. When cons go wrong a shootout usually ensues lol.gif

Because this is an idea, not a game script, narrative, poem or anything else. This thread is no different to Lincoln State, Lonsdale City, Orland City or V2. Writer's Discussion is for stories. This is not a story. It is an idea. Is that so hard to understand?

What type of music?

Maybe not specific songs, but types of music.

I'm thinking of Funk, Soul, Rock, Disco/Early House, and Country...
