Hi. My monitor's maximum resolution is 1440 x 900, using a E4300 1.8Ghz C2D, 2GB ram. If I want to max out the graphics as much as possible which GTS 250 should I choose for GTA IV PC patched: 512MB or the 1GB or the OC 512MB version? Other recommendations are welcome. Thanks in advance. Happy Easter.

do you know this? GTS250 = 9800GTX+

your CPU is too slow, which GPU do you have already? If its 9600 or higher rather buy a new CPU.

yeah.. i think your CPU is too slow..but to answer your question..i suggest you get Gtx 260 instead...It performs better..get the 1GB version!

Out of your current GTS 250 options get a GTS 250 1GB and overclock it yourself. I would also recommend the more expensive GTX 260 as it gives better performance

But first upgrade your CPU to a Quad so you can enjoy GTA IV properly; the GPU won't do much with a CPU like that one

With that CPU your fps probably won't change at all, regardless of which card you buy.

Go for the 1GB version, but I recommend going for a GTX260 216 or a HD4890 1GB if you can afford it.

Your CPU isn't really that good like others have said, and it's best to upgrade that too. But if you can't afford a new CPU, try and overclock your CPU.

don't waste money on any card that has less than 1Gb (or 900mb in the case of a gtx260), especially if you have games like gta4 on your sight tounge.gif think that a 512mb gfx card nowadays is roughly the recommended for any game on medium/high settings, but a card with more ram will be much more durable.

my current rig runs pretty well the game at meadium/ high settings but your CPU might be a problem here, maybe with a gtx270 or so you be able to play with medium settings and some stuff on high, but view distances you'll have to leave them low so the cpu gets less stress

ddr2 ram is also pretty cheap these days, 2 additional gb would surely make things smoother, since in my pc the game takes all the ram i have

what a experts around here... GTS250 cant use whole 1GB memory, 512MB its enough. Its like GF NV6600 with 512MB, nice amount of MBs but just too slow for settings for 512MB memory...

If you read the initial question, it explains why the 1 GB model would be better.

For everything other than GTA4, the extra 512 MB is overkill. Especially at 1440x900.

did you see his CPU? Even 512MB GTS250 is for him wasting... He needs at first a solid Dual Core or Quad.

We've said that already.

This young fellow has posted twice, his other post being from back in January. In this other post he happens to give the spec of his machine which is as follows:

QUOTE (alvin777 @ Jan 22 2009, 12:21)
7900 GS, Core 2 Duo 1.8Ghz, 2GB

So there you have it. His current graphics card is a 7900 GS.

Thanks for the recommendations. GTX 260 (SP 216) coz' that's the only one in stock in the store I go often to, blessing in disguise, a sign (there was a 1GB GTS 250 at another store but my spirit said go with the newer architecture:)

*I can now also stroll around Crysis demo (trying to finish GTA) at the very high settings, maxed at 14400 x 900 to enjoy the view at around 22 fps or so but it will turn into a slideshow when enemies do come. I'm testing Windows 7 beta 64-bit.

Great choice.

And I'm, pretty sure that card can run Crysis maxed out at a res like that without problems. It's just your slow CPU holding you back I think. Try and overclock it because 1.8GHz is too slow for ANY current game. Aim for 3GHz or more wink.gif .
