This is just perfect. Sometimes I'm really happy, that I've chose AMD and ATI products.

Man, some of my textures look like 16 bit now. I don't see nice gradients but some 16bit'ish stripes and spots. I'm coming back to 9.1 now

Seems to make the game run a little worse on my computer (though it never ran that great to begin with). I'm also noticing textures struggling to appear a little more than usual and the Z-Fighting issue coming back, though not as bad as it was before the 9.1 drivers.

I'm probably going to roll back to the 9.1's. Nice try ATI. wink.gif

Have you noticed that now many games are too bright and out of contrast? Everything is faded. I tried Gears Of War CoD5 and GTA IV so far

Theyre crap for me but then again so were the 9.1's. I dont know if its a FPS problem but as with the 9.1's I can see the street stutter while driving fast, very annoying. The 8.12's didnt have this problem so back two driver revisions I go.
4870x2
Man, ATI drivers are always crap. This card is the 3rd chance I given them over about 12 years (always concerned about the drivers when I buy the card) and always the same driver bullsh*t.

i can say that 9.2 catalyst brings performance only for crossfire users. Single card users have to satisfy with lower fps.

The only improvements in the 9.2 catalyst drivers is if you use Crossfire (thats what the 4850x2 is, right?), and the improvements only seem to come in certain games.

My impression, if GTAIV is running alright for you and you aren't using the card mentioned above, 9.2 won't improve anything whatsoever. Infact, it will probably make it run worse. And I really doubt it solves any crashes or freezes in GTAIV, though I havent really had any problems with that since the 9.1's...

No, I think the 4870x2 is just one board with 2 gpu's whereas a crossfire set up is 2 boards with a crossfire jumper connection taking up 2 pci-e slots so 2 gpus on seperate boards......

EDIT:

I just upgraded to the 9.2 and took benchmarks before and after (from 9.1)

Interestingly enough the bench show an increase in FPS for me.....

This is with 9.1:

And now with 9.2:

GTA IV was crashing about every 30 minutes for me with the 9.1 drivers. I just installed 9.2 yesterday and the problem is gone. I can finally play again in intervals longer than half an hour. I'm running 2 HD 4870's in CrossfireX. I didn't notice a framerate increase, but stability is much better.

Seems to be better for crossfire users judging on previous posts

Im using this system below:

Sapphire hd 4870 X2 (9.2 Drivers)
Phenom 9750 2.41 Ghz
8 GB Ram 800Mhz
Windows Home Prem 64Bit

and the framerates are averaging at 39-40 in the Bench Test. >>>Despite this, im getting less frame rates in game then this suggests!!! sad.gif

The performance was better last week when i was running it on my old set up:

Nvidia 9800GT 512MB
Phenom 9750 2.4 Ghz
4 GB Ram 800Mhz
Vista Home Prem 32Bit

Below I have Added My current bench with the HD 4870 X2, Can someone tell me why its taken ages for Textures, objects ect to load on my new setup? im not getting the frame rates its says! i have tried over clocking the card and reseting the clocks but it made no difference!

Last Bench Test:

It looks like those with 4870x2 are still better off with the 8.12 with the hotfix. I think I'm right in saying both 9.1 and 9.2 do not have the multicore support that the 8.12 and the hotfix does.....the 9.2 is good for crossfire but not multicore

9.2 has the multicore, crysis dx10 flew way up & matches 8.12hf (reports on rage3d & that german site that reviewed 9.2 & the release notes themselves)

all x2 cards (or gx2 / gtx295) are crossfire (or sli), more than 1 gpu with mirrored memory = cf/sli regardless of how many 'cards' there are

What makes me p@ss myself is R* reckoned that ATI/AMD were hard at work implementing changes into the drivers on version 8.12 that would massively improve GTA IV and so far there's been not one mention of the game in any of the release notes, not that it really surprise's me, look at the release notes for 9.2, they are still ranting on about improvements for games that were out years ago like Doom 3, errrrrm when was that released... 2004 was it... Just says to me that R*'s comment on updated graphics drivers was complete BS.
Anyway back to 9.2, no change for me, FPS exactly the same, water textures and reflections still disappear and the shadows still look like total poo. Buildings and objects still fade in layer by layer over a few seconds and other reflections and lights still have little squares.
I guess the game will be finished, shelved and gathering dust by the time anything does get sorted out.

Strange... The 9.2 Catalyst done so much for me. wow.gif

Now I can play with:

Textures: high (with commandline.txt "-availablevidmem 2.0")
Everything on "very high" except for Water - "high" (seems more realistic than "very high")

View Distance: 20
Detail Distance: 25
Traffic: 25
Shadow Density: 0 (my 4850 limits this but they're ugly anyway wink.gif )

I get an average of ~30 FPS, of course with slow-downs to ~20 FPS, but they're always there since I'm running on a dual-core.

Core2Duo E8400 @ 3.4GHz
4GB DDR2-800 RAM Corsair XMS2-DHX (4-4-4-12)
Asus HD4850 @ 680 / 1000
Gigabyte EP35-DS4 @ FSB 400

BTW: No more flickering shadows with "Textures", "Reflections" and "Shadows" set to "very high". inlove.gif
And no more disappearing textures!!! tounge2.gif
