| Try putting the updates into the GTAIII folder and "Run as administrator" for both update 1 and 2. It should be able to extract the files successfully. Thereafter, you'll be able to enjoy the mod in its full glory. |
The mod itself, though, did not work when I tried to put in the GTA III folder. I had to copy the files over to my own folder. Does that matter? Will have to do the same thing with the updates?
The Xbox mod is an installer on its own and it should be able to install the right directory by default unless you are using an x64 OS, in which case you have to direct the installer to C:\Program Files (x86)\Xbox mod for etcetc...
The most common problem I've seen occurs when you select the installation directory, especially with the Steam version.
If you pick your GTA 3 installation folder and click "Select", then the installer ADDS and extra folder called "GTAIII" onto the location. If you don't catch it during selection and delete it, then it copies all the files to a folder called "GTAIII" inside your GTA 3 folder.
To put it another way:
My GTA 3 folder is
C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Grand Theft Auto 3\
The installer by default looks at
C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\GTAIII\
If I select "Browse" and select my GTA 3 folder shown above, the install directory changes to:
C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Grand Theft Auto 3\GTAIII\
If I don't delete out that extra "GTAIII" that the installer tacks onto the end, then the installer creates the GTAIII directory and puts all the files there, which doesn't DO anything, obviously.
