I can not remember any street in GTA 4. But with all the others, as soon as they load up I know where I'm going. I can't remeber any short cuts or anything, I have no idea why.

Your thoughts.

Back on topic. Yeah, I always know where I am and where I'm going. It took me a few months, but I don't get lost anywhere, and I can get to most major points on my own.

If you asked me right now to give you directions from A to B I cant, but if you gave
me the controller and told me to go from A to B I could do that very easily.

Pretty much. I used to use the taxi a lot, because I'm super lazy, but then I realised I had no idea where anything was. Now I drive around everywhere, and apart from some smaller streets and a lot of alleyways I'm pretty familiar with much of the lay of the land. San Andreas was bigger and I know that place like the back of my hand, so I'm sure the same will soon be the case for Liberty City.

I do like the feeling of being lost in a huge city though...

I also knew the layout of the old Liberty, Vice, and SA. I only know half of the new Liberty though..

I agree with the OP. No matter how many times I play IV, I can never remember the whole city easily. I always use the GPS. In previous instalments, it was way easier to remember.

If you gave me a picture of a building and said find this without the use of the GPS. I could find it/know where it is.

After doing 200 pigeons you get used to what your seeing and what not...trust me lol. I couldn't however tell you directions to any certain location.

I know the city very well, I might be able to give directions, like head south here, or don't use that road.

After almost 4 playthroughs, the GPS gets very useless.

True. I agree it was easier to remember streets and your way around in previous GTA's, but you just need enough time with IV. On topic, I can navigate my away around Liberty City pretty well without the GPS.

I finished GTA IV three weeks ago (in 42 hours) and I still can't make my way around Liberty City without the use of way points and a map.

I felt the same way as OP, then I realized the problem was I was watching the yellow line instead of the scenery. You learned the previous GTAs faster because you were only given a compass direction, not a route, and you had to navigate. GTA IV lets you drive without thinking.

The GPS cripples you because it makes it so that you never have to find your own way, so when its gone, you can't find your own way

the streets in algonquin are alphabetical going from a to z, south to north, and the avenues are the same way going from east to west. That kinda helps me

I know my way around some of the areas in Liberty City mainly around the safehouses. I remember I used to know my way around loads of places in past GTA's. I think it is because of the fact that you could take a taxi from one side of the map all the way to the other.

IMost of the time i can't remember any of the streets at all. I only remember some of the major ones. Thats what i hate about that GPS (even though you could turn it off). It makes you rely on it too much and you couldn't explore. I was able to memorize the entire lay out of SA and VC but i can't now
