let's get started, now I know a lot of you are having problems installing GTA IV PC on Windows 7. Let me help you smile.gif I will also provide screenshots during the tutorial.

Firstly install GTA IV PC, now to install GTA IV PC without getting the error "Not Compatible with this Operating System %P" you need to open the DVD Contents here's how... by going to Computer > and at the E: folder
user posted image

Now in there go down to setup.exe and then do the following right click on setup.exe then go to the Compatibility tab and set it to this:

Right click on the IV icon and do Open, in there click GTA IV and then go to the Redistributable folder, click these that are have a red circle round them.

Now click on these, this will install them.

If you are one of the few who are not having problems with installing the C++ app and GFWL, skip this part.

Now, once you have installed them through that way you will need to update GFWL without having this error while starting up IV!
user posted image

You will need to go to this page to get IV up and running without the following error up top: http://www.rockstarg.../PC/GFWLupdate/

Download that and your ready to go, if you want to gain more FPS I recommend installing the Official V1 patch from Rockstar Games and also installing these drivers (181.20)

64-bit Drivers:
http://www.nvidia.co...81.20_whql.html

32-bit Drivers:
http://downloads.gur...nload-2158.html

Thanks man, you helped me a lot with those errors.
qustions:
1.What we should install first the game or the "Redistributable folder" programs?
-I first installed the game.
2. In which compatibility "win mod" we should run the install, the other programs, and in which we should lunch the game?
3. How we can lunch the "social club" without getting the blue screen and then crashing?
4. The securom "thinks" that the install in win 7 "is cracked", how we should bypass it?
-I tried to bypass (with some torrenrt's help) and it is just gave me an empty black screen that was closed after 10 sec.

Note: I bought the game.

edit:
last qustion: should we install the "2005 C++ app sp1" in addition to the game's programs, if yes, this should be done before or after game's install ?

You shouldn't discuss warez on here. It doesn't matter what you install first, but it's recommended to install the game first.

#2: You should run compatibility mode in Windows XP Service Pack 2

#3: You don't have to launch Social Club, you can just press "LaunchGTAIV.exe" in Computer > Program Files (x86) > Rockstar Games > Grand Theft Auto IV > LaunchGTAIV.exe, although you won't be able to play multiplayer that way!

#4: Not sure on that. Fresh re-install should do it, or try downloading the GFWL update.

It would "behoove" the admins to make this a sticky. Good work

..and once you install it and you get a annoying "studder" or "pause" everytime they hit aa key on the keyboard, then you can direct yourself to this thread to discuss.. or hopefully find an answer to the problem.

Do you people have any gains in GTA IV after installing Windows 7?

I'm not looking for "Oh, it looks much much better", some fraps benchmarks before and after would be nice.

Search for this.. several benchmarks have been posted in this forum. To recap them all, some people are getting 2fps better, some people are getting 2 fps lower, and 1 guy is reporting he went from 14fps to 30 or something ridiculous. 2 things about fraps benchmarks is, you can never be 100% sure the results you see are going to be like yours, especially with a beta. AND.. fraps fps reporting doesn't really tell you how the game actually plays. For me and a few others, we have VERY smooth fps except for the fact that if you press a key on the keyboard... ANY key, and the video will pause VERY breifly every time you press a button. That's just the nature of the beast.. we are dealing with a beta.

I CAN say though, if GTA IV worked like everyone else is reporting it to work, and I didn't have this stupid bug, I would have no reason to ever go back to Vista.

I found out the hard way this guy is posting the way to go.

Couldn't you posted this earlier lol.gif smile.gif wink.gif

A little side note to admin/mod. This could be very helpfull for users trying to install to Windows 7, it really seems hard but this topic explains it very well how to get it done. A topic worthy of pinning inlove.gif

I did everything that I could, I did finally a clean install of GTA IV on win 7 without any errors at all, but I still can't lunch the game, I just got an empty black screen that closed after 5-10 sec.
I got the same in win XP too, I always played GTA IV after lunching it from RGSC, but I can 't do it in win 7.
Please help.

I had this problem too. Load either GTAIV.exe or LaunchGTAIV.exe directly from your "Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\" That will give you error codes. You probably need to install windows live, that is what I needed to do - something about xlive.dll. Then I set compatibility to "Windows 2000" instead of XP or Vista.

Once you load the game directly from the folder just google your error codes and the answer should show up. Or post them in the thread.

I posted a movie for you in Youtube, this is a clean install, no errors doring the install, I have all the needed programs, I got the same result in win XP.
I am really hopeless.
It is something with the RGSC, I can't run it in win 7, I don't use any mods.
Please help, can we lunch the RGSC in win 7 at all without crashing?

Sounds like the install broke some where. Check to make sure .NET got installed properly.

Goto control panel>programs>turn windows features on or off...Then check to make sure there's a checkmark in the box for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1.

You right, I don't have it, I downloaded it from mircoroft and can't install it, I can't see any window, different win mods won't help.

When you goto the windows feature on or off option do you see .NET in the list? If you do see it, but the box isn't checkmarked, try adding a checkmark and click ok. It should install then.

EDIT: Here is a screenshot of the windows features box i am talking about.

Your mistaken confused.gif sorry, never went there, done it all myself. I would have given credit if I did go there, I'm not an attention whore bringing in all the attention. Also if I DID go to that site I would have just copied the images, instead I made them myself. You also took the liberty of searching on Google, MSN, or Yahoo to see if there's any other tutorials out there. You just tried to flame me and make a fool out of me and make everyone gang up on me. That won't work, I don't know why people do this.

run it in under "windows xp/2000" compatibility mode.
then, change the gtaIV.exe & LaunchGTAIV.exe to windows 2000 compatibility mode.

btw, i downloaded steam's no-cd patch, then updated the game to v1.2, now its working like a charm w/o DVD biggrin.gif

you only need to install in compatibility mode, you can play it without the compatibility mode.

I have been trying to get GTA IV to work on this PC, but every time I try I get this error:

SecuLauncher failed to start application. [2000]

I'm pretty sure it's because I didn't install framework 2.0, but this computer has 3.5 from the original installation. Besides 2.0 is almost impossible to install due to privilege issues.

I had GTAIV installed on 7 before, I just forgot how I got around this. Anyone ever had this error? If so, how did you fix it?

*I had tried the Securom no-cd crack already.

I can honestly say that I am glad I didnt read this thread BEFORE I installed GTA4 on my fresh Win 7 (build 7048) x64 system!
It probably would have scared the pants off me! What i did, was to stick the DVD in the drive...and click "Install"... when this (obviously!) didnt work, I browsed through to the app on the DVD, set it to Vista x64 compatibility, and then everything installed with no probs, and the game ran fine straight after with no mucking about.
One thing I will add, is that I have UAC turned OFF..dunno if that makes a difference!

open your cddrive and go to GTAIV then rightclick on setup.exe and set it in compatibility mode to windows 2000. afterwards install gfwl/.netframework from the cd manually.

EDIT: thats to install. to fix the 2000 thing. browse your gta cd and go to GTAIV, redistributable, then install everything in there.
