@Team, why don't we have the ability to choose which compression textures are inside WDR files?

@ aacclapd : you have several solutions to find your files . the Open IV favorites . you also have Windows 7 favorites in explorer . you can access to them by locking windows explorer in task bar and using context menu too . and you can also create shortcuts to files you are modifing to access them from your work folder in one click

GooD, Can you make a word finder for the text files: IDE,WPL..?
i always spend like 10-15 minutes searching the one i want (in IDEs)
As you can see this feature is planned from the beginning in global search.
user posted image
but it still not implemented, and I don't know when it will.

You can, you just need to use DDS texture format for it.

You can, you just need to use DDS texture format for it.

I.e. save the DDS texture in Photoshop, GIMP or Paint.NET as a certain format before shoving it to OpenIV for importing.

Yes. But make sure you will have correct Texture File Name in .odr file.
Also the DDS compression must be supported by GTA IV.

If in doubt, just use the texture format that the original texture uses.

I do not like putting things in the same drive where Windows is installed. Furthermore, I like to keep everything together. For instance, all the tools and mods I download are in the root folder of the "Rockstar Games".
Rockstar Games
\GTA San Andreas
\Mods
\SAMods
\IVMods

Something like that.

There are a lot of programs that store data in the AppData folders, not just OpenIV.

you must assume that the instalation path for any program will be installed in the ordered place by the developer,
if not so, they allow you to select path in the installation setup
openiv must recognize gtaiv.exe file to be installed and you cant change instalation path.
if you want to have all tools and mods there, create a shortcut (.lnk) in the folder you want)

As you might know by now, I will update OpenIV as soon as GIMS EVO comes out and works on Max 2009.

So I want to check this,

GooD-NTS, you said that Open IV had a change of openformats resources to match rockstar's. For example, wdr from open IV versions older than 0.9.4 do not match rockstar's wdr as much as the Open IV of nowadays. So aside from the bugs the old versions may have, I want to know are there any visual differences in the models when they are rendered in the game between the two versions of wdr.

No, If I not forgot something, you will not see any visual differences. But you will have strong memory issues in game.

Strong memory issues, you mean the old version creates memory problems?

You can more easily have disappearings, and possibly more memory usage with old resources.

What reason you have to not use 2012?

I would like to use 2012 if I could. But a lot of people claim that 2012 requires a 64 bit system to work well with. I use a 32 bit desktop.

I do, however have a 64-bit gaming laptop. But a lot of people do no recommend using 3ds max on a mobile platform. (Also, I noticed problems with max running on my laptop, like crashing while loading a file that works on my desktop.)

With these problems, along with the fact that 3doomer claims Gims EVO will likely make a release within this year, I have decided to hold out and wait.

I think you should/must download sp3 for Windows XP.

or upgrade your O.S to any other one cuz i heard Windows XP wont be supported in a while (dont know exactly when)
try Windows 7.

(this is only a suggestion, you can do whatever you like to)

The tutorial did't worked I don't have *dll file in the windows folder.
I cant upgrade the O.S, I'm using my S.O.S computer (Pentium III 650 MHz) because the L500 don't work.
I will try copy these *dll files from Windows XP SP2 and paste them in my computer.
