Chase came looks great. Only a shame it's bumpy.

Damn that's exactly what I want. I mean the regular cam is a bit bumpy too.

I am confused. Which line controls the camera that is behind the vehicles? Skeeter said the bumper cam and then the above post mentions the Bonnet. If I knew which one then I could experiment.

I don't think the standard chase cam is listed in this file. Otherwise we could just copy it's position values to the bumper cam.

I have no auto-centering that I've noticed. I was looking for a way to enable it in cars, as I can never see where I'm going after turning a corner.

strange. i can look with my mouse to any direction i want as long as i want as long as i hold it
if you have the keys set up you can drive shoot watch etc etc all at the same time

but i guess its not what you mean

Hey KickyMcAssington, I've seen some of the videos you posted on another thread in the modding section where you did a static camera mod for car and a motorcycle. Those are kickass. Can you list what you did to make those work so well. The car one is exactly what I'm looking for. I want to use it on a Coquette. I just don't know what I need to change. How do you know what to set them at? I also would love to do the motorcycle mod too. Thx.

Crossposting from Kickassington's post on the GTA IV Data files, DAT, IDE, IPL, CFG, CSV...thread,

Here's a few of the View mods he worked up.

There's a locked chase cam setup for the Comet, and for a couple bikes and a Dashboard cam for a couple cars.

High-Def MUCH BETTER:

Low-Res so ugly:

These are great and just what I need. I hope he post how to do these.

The problem I'm having is that I always usually press the forward key and left strafe at the same time if I want to run along a straight path and have my camera looking 45 degrees to the right, but what happens in gta4 is that when the camera tries to align itself Niko has to turn even more left to still be running diagonally forward which results in Niko running in circles. The only way for me to counter this is to constantly move my mouse to the right.

Maybe this is realistic in the sense that it simulates the difficulty of running in a straight path while looking in an other direction, but at the other hand it shouldn't be too hard when there's just a 45 degree difference.

I also would like a way to "lock" the camera while driving with a car?  I really like the "in car" cam mode.  Is there a way to add that to every car?  or does it have to be done individually.

Here you get the taste of driving-realism with an in-car-cam ...

Just copy those over the appropriate field in vehoff.csv to make em work. You could try copying the same settings to another car and it will mostly work, some will be great, some will be off and you'll have to re-tweak.

To give you an idea of what I changed:
NRG900 - Locked Chase cam

VEHICLE nrg900 FIELD BONNET_FWD POS -0.002441(this left/right adjustment, it could be 0, but you have to change it by so much 2441 might as well be 0) -1.583923(this is the forward/backward adjustment, I changed it to a negitive and moved it backwards) 1.289465 (this is the hight of the cam, i raised it so niko's head didnt block the view) ANGLES -0.200000(this is the vertical tilt, i used this to have the view look down a little bit by default) 0.000000 0.000000(because this is a forward view i didnt touch this, but if you want the camera to face backwards a setting of 3.000000 should do the trick) FOV 95.000000(field of view, higher should let you see more around the sides, however im not positive if this is working properly)

Those settings are to make a locked chase cam, If you wanted an in car cam you would just find the sweet spot by tweaking the settings around. In car probably takes a little more fine tuning if you want to avoid Niko's head clipping through the camera.

Also someone asked about editing the rear view, that's called FIELD BONNET_BWD in the file, you've got to edit it for each car you want changed.

*Edit* I'd have some more views set up but I get easily distracted modding gta tounge.gif There's just so much to mess around with.

This: (HD icon14.gif ) Is my latest destraction.
I removed all the damage from weapons and explosives while adding a bit of force, for a sort of poor mans godmode.. It's also got the side effect of making everyone else take a real beating before getting killed (still killable through high force impacts knocking them around) call it zombie mode.
Oh and did I mention rocket jumping biggrin.gif

*Edit2* Important! Before you mod the game make sure you've got the mod loader from:
http://www.gtaforums...pic=379452&st=0 *Easier if it works, seems to work for most people.
or
http://www.gtaforums...pic=380102&st=0 *I haven't tried this one, but some people who couldn't get the other method to work have had success here, though its more complicated.

No, SA didn't have the auto centering like GTA IV does. Moving on foot is REALLY f*cking annoying in GTA IV, I've never known any 3rd person game have controls/camera like this icon13.gif

Well I did everything that KickyMcAssington said in the above post and the game will not start up. As soon as a I replace the file with the original that I made a copy of, it will work. Go figure. Is there something else I need to do? Suggestions, comments would be appreciated. Thx.

There's a tool you can use to work around the file modding protection. Google around GTA mod sites.

I downloaded the tool you referenced to. It did something to the filelist.pak, but the game would not start up until I replaced it with the original. This is pissing me off. I don't want to break the game trying to fix this stupid oversight. I just wish someone would just write a script simiar to the steadycam on page 2 of this thread that would lock the damn camera behind all of the vehicles and Niko when he is walking around. I getting tired of not being able to see where I am going everytime I turn a corner or spin around when driving.

Use a gamepad (Xbox) I bought one and it works perfect with view. The second stick you hold where you want the camera. As I make turns I turn the camera with the second stick also. Really quite easy and works well. You can turn as far as you want, fast or slow, stop where you want. Hold where you want. When I have to shoot I use mouse and keyboard. Flying heli is a breeze after you get it figured out.

The only thing lacking is variable speeds on the front buttons. I guess it really is not too big of a deal because cars in GTA4 arent sim like and you can take off at full throttle and not spin tires. you just get used to tapping the accelerator on high speed turns. Would be nice if they gave the functionality of variable speeds because that is what this gamepad has. Kinda odd they didnt use it since it was the only gamepad they forced us to use. I bought it and have to admit I like it a lot.....more so than my PS3 gamepads.
