Here's a solution that stops the camera from centering... it works for me, but someone's gonna have to compile & attach it, I'm too lazy. It moves the mouse back and forth a little bit (imperceivable) to stop the default camera view from taking over.

#include <string.h>
#include "windows.h"

#define MOVE_DISTANCE 2
#define HIGH_WAIT_TIME 1500
#define LOW_WAIT_TIME 100

int main()
{
INPUT leftMotion, rightMotion;
memset(&leftMotion, 0, sizeof(INPUT));
leftMotion.type = INPUT_MOUSE;
leftMotion.mi.dx = -MOVE_DISTANCE;
leftMotion.mi.dwFlags = MOUSEEVENTF_MOVE;
rightMotion = leftMotion;
rightMotion.mi.dx = -leftMotion.mi.dx;
while (true)
{
SendInput(1, &leftMotion, sizeof(INPUT));
Sleep(LOW_WAIT_TIME);
SendInput(1, &rightMotion, sizeof(INPUT));
Sleep(HIGH_WAIT_TIME);
}
return 0;
}

where to put the code? TIA

I hate how the camera doesn't follow you while you're driving. It's as if they designed it so you're supposed to crash into everything. I would like to be able to lock the camera to the back of the vehicle while you're driving but still use the muse to shoot. Maybe like a toggle on\off. It drives me crazy (no pun intended).

Agree with camera separation from character. The constant "lowering of the camera at high speeds and on hills" while driving is... driving me crazy! biggrin.gif

Stop saying you can get used to it, if you are saying that you don't understand the problem. The problem is that the auto centre camera completely prevents any strafing moves. Anytime you try to run and look left or right the camera moves violent to the centre and back. The reason it is like this is because it makes sense for consoles and controllers. The fact that there is no way to turn it off is reason 4578 that this a terrible port. The easiest things haven't been fixed properly because this is a rushed to production defective product.

As great as this sounds, this script does nothing but generate errors in AutoHotkey. If something else has to be done to it before it can be pasted into a .ahk script and run, then you're going to have to fill us in. Otherwise it's just a useless wall of text.

I compiled and put it here:
SteadyCam

Unzip it, and run it while GTA is running.

Check my post in here.

Looks great, could you post your modified file? I opened it up in Open Office but everything comes out in one column. How did you change the settings for every car at once?

BTW for those wondering vehOff.csv is located in program files - rockstar - common - data

The "bonnet_fwd" entry is the one you probably want to mod and tweak to taste.

It's explained well in the link skeeter gave: http://www.gtaforums...ic=380874&st=40

Hey Skeeter is there an easy way leave the camers as is as far as positioning goes but just make it static so it follows. Also where is the mod at from that video? Or are you still working on it? Thanks.

*EDIT* sh*t nevermind man I just read through the whole thread. I'll be looking forward to the final product. Thanks and good luck.

Is the normal camera in the list? Would it be possible to replace the Pos values for the bonnet with the Pos values from the normal cam? That would give you the normal position, but locked.

Do you know what I spotted: When you're in the Helicopter and turn left or right the camera moves directly with the Heli. There is no delay like the cars. The camera is locked just behind. Also if you want you can look with the mouse. Thats just what we want. Just I think someone have to figure out which setting in the Helicopter is for the camera movement and post the solution. I'm not so good at that. sad.gif

Here's a few of the View mods I've worked up.

There's a locked chase cam setup for the Comet, and for a couple bikes and a Dashboard cam for a couple cars.

High-Def:
http://www.youtube.c...6enRZoJ4&fmt=22
http://www.youtube.c...jgfqD3Ww&fmt=22
http://www.youtube.c...fy2wA7b8&fmt=22
Low-Res:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hhfy2wA7b8

The dashboard cam is tricky because you've got to be careful niko's head doesn't go through the cam when he's bouncing around in the car, otherwise you see the back of his eyes and its creepy... So I moved the cam up and forward to avoid clipping.

Someone mentioned the helicopters default view stayed locked on. I don't think the default views are stored in that same file, Unless they are named badly, the other views for each vehicle in vehoff.csv seem to be the cinematic views.. unless the standard chase cam is hidden there we'll have to look elseware.

It seems its only really bumpy because it locks on the car, and I mean LOCKS :-) the car hardly moves but since its bouncing around on suspension the background moves around, its a pretty cool effect if you've got the framerate to keep it smooth. Also keep in mind My Comet and bikes are heavily modified in a few ways so its much worse then it would be in an average stock car.

The farther back the view the more pronounced the effect is, I think it could be tweaked to minimize the effect but its a lot of trial and error booting up the game with each tiny change to test.

I don;t mind the chase cam behaviour, in-car.

The ONE camera issue i do have the chase cam when on foot. When you try to strafe, the camera gets pulled around to automatically get behidn teh players' back. No other GTA had that and it's a conole-itis symptom. I've adjsted, but everytime i try to run one way and view what's to my right or elft, the fuking camera moves itself and i get cheesed off..

But as far as problems go, i guess it's a minor one.

I also would like a way to "lock" the camera while driving with a car? I really like the "in car" cam mode. Is there a way to add that to every car? or does it have to be done individually.

Making the rear view interior is just as easy as making the front dash cam, the settings are right next to each other in vehoff.csv.

Its just a bit tedious as you have to do each car one at time and the cars are all a little different so the same setting may not work for everything.

It's not bad changing the settings, it's the loading the game to test, needing to tweak it just so, reloading. wanting to tweak ever so slightly more and so on and so on :-)
I was also being careful not to allow Niko or the passenger to clip through the camera, if you didn't care it would be easier, but I'm a bit of a perfectionist.

Thinking about it though just copying the new dash cam setting's I've made would probably work fairly well for the rear view, you'd see a lot of the interior of your car, but it would still work and it would probably look cool..
I'll test er out.

*edit* Tested, I was able to cut and past my tweaked front view settings over the rear view settings apart from the last angle number that flips it backwards. The way I had it was a bit too close to Niko and his head blocked your view a bit so I moved it closer to the mirror, ideally you'd want it right in front the mirror but moving it exactly where you want is a bitch.
Anyway here's a video:

Hi, I would really appreciate it if someone would post what settings to change to make the camera static behind the car and how to adjust the elevation of the camera so I can raise it a little. I read through the thread and did not see any post with those settings. I would also like to set the camera on the motorcycles the same way. Someone posted a video of the it(I think it was Skeeter) that looked kickass. Thanks.

This was what Skeeter said in another thread about fixing the camera.

****************************************************************************************************

Found how to change the car cameras.

It is the vehoff.csv file

Format is as shown below.

VEHICLE rebla FIELD BONNET_FWD POS 0.002625 -5.763062 0.764526 ANGLES -0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 FOV 100.000000

Vehicle CARNAME

FIELD Bonnet View= camera type

POS = Camera position cords

0.002625 = Left and right camera position

-5.763062 = Forward and back adjustments

0.764526 = Height adjustment for camera position up and down.

Angles = not sure not tested yet. Tho the 3 segment of numbers will probably act in direction to POS

FOV = Field of view as in how far u can turn left to right with camera movements i think.

It is possible now to have a fixed camera that follows the car totally as ppl wanted instead of using the mouse to view around when cornering and avoiding slow follow on camera methods. Just alter the bumper cam so its behind the car and above slightly to your desired preference.

****************************************************************************************************

This looks like the fix we have been waiting for, but I have no idea what values to replace them with. I wish someone would listed the changes that need to be made because I am a moron and don't want to screw it up. Thx.
