Learn to overclock.
Yopu have done it wrong, and haven't got your settings straight.
that is called "tearing" also known as artifacts.

If you didn't O/C your machine,
then you have a heating issue and mismatched memory.

Might want to fix something.

Or not overclock.

Maybe try going into your Nvidia/ATi panel in windows and setting mip maps to the highest quality.

Also, if there is something about zbuffering, try to set it to the best quality.

I seem to remember having an issue like this a couple years back and it had to do with a setting like the 2 I mentioned above

only option with Z-buffer is "force 24bit Z-buffer" - has no result

I have the same card (2600XT) and the same bug. It's not a major one, but slightly annoying.

I only have the 256Mb version though and can't select any res higher than 1152 x 864. I can only get it to fill the widescreen at 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768 though - any higher and I get massive black borders on the left and right.

My specs:
ATI HD 2600 XT 256RAM + LATEST 8.11 Catalyst Drivers

2GB RAM - 5300 (1gb x2) (dual channel)
Intel Core2 Duo 2.4GHz
WinXP SP3

It's just like that on some ATi cards. You can't help it.

mipmapping in gtaiv is displayed in graphic options as render quality try setting that high or better in the game.

ATI...Great ! devil.gif
mipmapping level settings = No change
Setting quality & Render on High, Med or Low = No change

And ATI does not seem to want to communicate on next Driver !
ATI + NextGenGames = suicidal.gif
