I have windows vista sp1 32-bit, e6600, 9800gt 180.84, and 2 gb of ram. GTAIV starts up just fine. I get to the menu and press start and it brings up the loading screen with characters on it. THe music stops playing after 30 seconds or so and the loading screen becomes an infinite loop. Has anyone found the fix to this problem?

As I said elsewhere, I could solve this by alt-tabbing out of game then back in again, this seemed to force it to load.

However, I got into game and had the transparent/invisible textures bug. Once I removed Nvidia display drivers and installed 180.70 beta drivers with modded .inf, it now loads everything ok. No loop, no missing textures. It does run at about 15fps but I'm hoping a patch fixes that. 7 series card here too.

Ok, I was getting this issue, too...alt-tabbing only works once in a great while for me, usually it's still hung on loading.

I did find two other workarounds that *work for me* (i.e. your mileage may vary):

1) When the game first gets to the main menu, don't click "Start". Instead, go directly to Options, then and start the Benchmark test in the Display menu. I only get about 6 or 7 characters on the character loading screen before the benchmark starts in. Then, escape out of the benchmark test and the game will go directly to loading the game proper.

2) In the "SOLVED!" thread:

http://www.gtaforums...howtopic=379664

...they show how to start the game in windowed mode. For whatever reason, running in windowed mode *works for me* to get past the character loading screen whenever I go straight into the "Start" from the main menu. (again, your mileage may vary).

This still doesn't fix any of the crazy texture issues I'm getting, tho':

I'll admit, my 2-year-old gaming laptop is definitely at the low-end of system requirements, but I was at least hoping to play this with low settings until I get a higher-end desktop.

You totally saved my day!

This is the only thread online about this i think. Ive also got a two year old gaming laptop with a go 7600. I also installed the gta nvidia drivers with a modded inf (mobility modder.NET) and got the infinite loop of that preloading screen with the characters and the music. Ive been looking for a solution non stop since gta was available. Im not sure id call it playable now, but at least its running.

Thanks a bunch! You kick ass (fearlessly)!
