********************* TRUST ME ROCKSTAR ***********************

The best thing to improve performance is to let the people customize the graphic and physics setting manually. Let the people manually choose the settings and give the people the option to turn physics off or at least to a minimum level.

I guess the physics is the most cpu hungry process in this game. So let us turn it off if we think we dont need it for real.

********************* MY ONE AND ONLY QUESTION TO ROCKSTAR ****************

Why didnt you guys found most of the known issues at the beta testing stage? Or is it just the xmas ring ring you and your publisher take2 wanted instead of pleasing your fans with a working version... barf8bd.gif

Please stop using communitys like social club and windows live sh*t.
It just sucks, every game should handle its processes and network code by itself with only one running exe. The whole games for windows live sh*t doesnt have any benefit for us gamers.

Now the GFWL thingy is letting us wait for the patch which already should have been released the day before yesterday. Personally, i cant play online cause of GFWL cause it always wants to use the wrong network adapter in my pc devil.gif

And the Copy Protection... Well, this time i could play an original game i bought but guess what happened to me quíte often: I bought an original game and couldnt play it cause of the copy protection. Games you buy and you cant play are games you should rip and then bring it back to Walmart suicidal.gif

I have the Steam version of the game, when I (eventually) downloaded it, the game loaded and ran (with various graphical glitches as lots of people are reporting) - I figured, fair enough, you're working on a patch, I'll wait.

I turned of my PC, turned it on the next day, went to start up GTA IV, and it won't. The DOS box launcher comes after I click on "Play" from the RGSC launcher, stays there for a few seconds, then disappears. GTAIV.exe then disappears from the process list in task manager and that's the end of that. The game started once upon a time, then decided for no apparent reason, not to.

Here are some threads on the Steam forums made by people who are having what seems to be exactly the same issue as me;
Thread 1
Thread 2

I've seen a couple of threads and posts floating around these forums concerning the same issue too - so it seems to be quite widespread.

I've tried all sorts of 'fixes' including re-installing .net 3.5 sp1, re-installing flash, updating my graphics card drivers to this version. Nothing has made the slightest bit of difference.

For Steam problems, have you verified the integrity of the game game cache? To do that:

1)Right Click on Properties of GTAIV
2)Click "Verify integrity of game cache..."

Not sure if that will solve your problem, but it would be good to check.

Yeah, no luck unfortunately. The files are sound according to Steam. And for what it's worth: 0% fragmentation too.

This game is odd. I mean some guys with Q6600 3GHz and HD4870/280GTX can't handle this game with 1280x1024 and high/high settings and they can't get fps over 30. But some guys with their E4300/E8400 3GHz and 9600GT/8800GT( like him http://dethica.pri.e...4 1/gta4 1.html ) can run this game with 1280x1024 medium high settings and density's are put on medium and he is able to run this game very smoothly with 30+ fps.

Wondering if you're going to address the issue of missing textures?

I have tried all suggested methods of fixing this problem including downloading the 180.84 nvidia drivers but none of these suggestions have worked.

This is still all I can see:

Wow. You should anyways update your ram. 1GB is not enough for this game to run properly.

I meet the minimum requirements so please make the game run at 25-30 frames at lowest settings.

Dual Core 2,66 Ghz (tried to oc to 3,4Ghz but i didnt got more fps)
2 GB DDR 2 RAM
Geforce 7900 GT (newest driver version)
Windows XP 64 Bit (newest SP)

Direct X - newest version (web updater)

Make it run smoothly at machines like mine. Minimum requirements doesnt mean you could play the game ultra stuttering at 10 fps with lowest settings. This is fraud

I'm installing them right now, hope to see a slight improvment at least, I know my CPU is probably the problem, but if I can run Crysis Warhead on High setting why GTA4 can't get over 16-17fps on my computer (note there's 3.2GB now on the system described in my signature)

Thanks, good to know you would be supporting the game actively.

However, right now, we would all like to know about Anti-aliasing. If, and when, will it be supported? Most of us will agree that with a game world as large and detailed as Liberty City, the aliasing almost kills the visuals.

Please, please let us know where we are standing with Anti-Aliasing. Is an in-game option a possibility? Can it be forced through graphics card control panels?

I, like many other people are having issues with the textures not showing up during game play. Sometimes Roman's apartment loads fine, but as soon as you walk outside, buildings, roads, and other stationary objects are missing. If I wait awhile sometimes a few objects appear, but when I move onto another section of the city the objects are not there. I'm sure other people will post screen shots of this certain bug, because it is quite common apparently. I've tried everything. I MEAN EVERYTHING. So this leads me to believe that it's on your end Rockstar. I hope you can fix this.

I bought the game through direct2drive.com (digital download).
My OS is windows XP 32 bit.

Haha. I will laugh at those people after the patch is released and it fixes most of the horrible bugs/errors, who took their games back to the store. They were so sure that there is no patch coming. What an ignorant attitude... I bet that when patch is out and game gets fixed with patches and Ati/Nvidia drivers, then they will run back to the store "omg Rockstar is the best, I love them!" lol.gif

Flags Not Working

The flags that you put into a shortcut do not work when the Social Club is off line or experiencing problems which causes no end of hassle when you want to play single player.  I was just wondering if it is possible to have a seperate config.ini file that we personally can edit and have the launchgta4.exe check prior to launchiing the game so we can get our preferred settings.

Create a file named 'commandline.txt' in your iv dir and put all your flags in there like '-windowed'.

guys these people are listening instead of complaining ,lets let them know what we want in this game ,this game has the potential of being the best multiplayer game of all time ,,lets let them know what we would like for them to put in the game ,like gameplay issues ideas etc...think of it like it was a beta version the only thing is that we paid for it ..

What I'd like to know is, why my system doubles, and sometimes doubles again the requirements, that I can't play the game without massive slowdowns, constant pop ins and lag that makes the game completely and utterly unplayable. If something isn't done, people will boycott your future games, its a fact. Obviously it was released before Christmas to make money then 'worry about it later' - but the fact that some of the best hardware available can't even get a decent FPS is pretty sad.

E8500 - X48 DS4
4870X2 - THIS DOES NOT utilize all available memory, so I don't know why R* announced that Crossfire works when clearly it doesn't.
8GB ram

So disappointing considering I sold my PS3 and 360 versions to wait for this. Hey, why am I even typing, this query will probably be skipped to.

The best thing they can do now is to stay in constant communication with the communities to reassure us we are being listened to.

So in other words people have to be happy with crap performance, and when they get their game back from the store again they aren't allowed to be happy?

Sorry, who was ignorant again?

When you say "THIS DOES NOT utilize all available memory" what do you mean?

Lets say, for sake of argument; each 4870 has 512mb of VRAM. From what I understand; Having 2 in crossfire does not add up the frame buffers of each chip. You do not get 1GB of VRAM, you still only get 512mb of VRAM in total.

Correct me if I'm wrong, that's just the impression I'm under.

It shows up as 900MB rather than 1GB - even if I'm only using 300MB of that it still runs like pure ass.

No you should learn how to conf. and tweak your computer... Many people got their game running better after downloading new video drivers, downloading .NET framework, messing around with video settings from Nvidia control panel, tweaking command lines, increasing their pagefiles etc. Go and buy a console when you don't know how to maintain/conf. your computer to make games run better. tounge.gif

Oh right, and I should have to do that with a game I bought from the store, because that's how it should work. What else should I do whilst I do R*s work for them?

Only thing I ask for and probably man others will:

Please do whatever you can to make it a bit less demanding, allow players to play with higher settings and better quality. This means acting like "memory saving", fixing leaks, removing unnecessary codes and checks etc.

Thanks a lot.

And shouldnt a card that is 'pre crossfired' work as one anyway giving me 2GB of VRAM?

Mine seems to work ok for awhile, then the FPS just drops to 1-2, I have to always restart. Also when TRYING to play multiplayer, it disconnects me with the message "You have been disconnected because your computer is running too slow."

And shouldnt a card that is 'pre crossfired' work as one anyway giving me 2GB of VRAM?

No, I don't think it works that way. Having the chips "pre-crossfired" is essentially exactly the same as having 2 distinct cards in 2 separate PCI-E slots crossfired together. The only difference is, they're stuck together and only use 1 PCI-E slot.

Dear Rockstar. Things what should you do are:
Fix the memory leaking. I think that causes the massive lag but I'm not sure. When not then also fix the lag because lag is the biggest problem.
Check over your code, maybe there is a error somewhere.
You should "teach" to this game how to use GPU more. It isn't using all resources. When I played FC2 etc then my GPU got a lot more hotter than with GTA IV. So it looks like it doesn't take full advantages of the GPU.
Textures are getting lost for some people. There is no AA. It doesn't support SLI/Crossfire but that doesn't matter, those things can be fixed later smile.gif . Right now it is important to teach this game how to take full advantage of the GPU and how to stress it. Ofc also fix crashes and errors.

Oh yeah and more naked tits and pu**ys!! biggrin.gif j/k j/k turn.gif
