Game Informer subscribers are in for a real treat this month. We’re proud to bring you the world-exclusive first look at Batman: Arkham Asylum from Rocksteady Studios and Eidos. This completely original title explores Gotham City’s darkest location, the infamous Arkham Asylum. But as a routine prison transfer goes wrong, the Joker sets his demented plan into action and Batman comes face to face with an army of his worst enemies. In a dark and gritty setting reminiscent of Bioshock (with a story co-written by Paul Dini), Arkham Asylum is setting the stage for a true-to-character Batman game. Also in the new issue, readers will find the top 25 games from E3 2008, an in-depth interview with Maxis’ chief designer, Will Wright and much, much more. Stay tuned to Game Informer Online as well because Unlimited readers will get screenshots, interviews and more for our cover story plus other great content on Aug 18..

Today, Eidos and Warner made the game official:

Eidos Interactive and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment on behalf of DC Comics announce Batman: Arkham Asylum a dark, action packed videogame adventure for Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system and Games for Windows in 2009.

In Batman: Arkham Asylum, developed by Rocksteady Studios, the player assumes the role of Batman as he delivers The Joker to Arkham Asylum. There, the imprisoned super-villains have set a trap and an immersive combat gaming experience unfolds. With an original script penned by Emmy Award-winning Batman writer Paul Dini, the game brings the universe of DC Comics' detective to life with stunning graphics.

"In Batman: Arkham Asylum Eidos and Warner Bros. are building a true action adventure game experience worthy of gamers and fans," said Phil Rogers, CEO of Eidos Interactive. "Players become Batman, like he has never been seen before in a video game, as he fights through intense circumstances in Arkham Asylum utilizing his intuitive detective skills and aggressive melee attacks."

"Batman: Arkham Asylum offers players the chance to battle Gotham's worst villains with Batman's physical and psychological strength in a graphically distinct and story-driven game," said Martin Tremblay, President, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. "We look forward to working with Eidos on expanding DC Comics' world-renowned character Batman in the game space with a noticeably different feature set in an incredibly dark interactive environment."

Eidos Interactive and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment will co-publish Batman: Arkham Asylum in North America, Eidos Interactive will publish the game in all other territories.

Looks good, not much you can get from that teaser.

Although I don't know how it's going to work, the whole game is going to be in the Asylum?

Lol someone's got their panties all in a bunch.

I agree with Don though. The teaser is pretty damn lame. However, the graphics do look pretty good. Let's hope it delivers.

It's kind of ironic that people are pissed over a teaser that didn't show much, teased if you will. But a little more would be better, though. Still, alteast we'll hopefully get an actually good Batman game. I think it was a good idea to scrap the movie rendition, too

I love that Kevin Conroy will be voicing Batman in this. Definitely adds a feeling that this is *legit.

And Mark Hamill voicing The Joker is the icing on the cake. That maniacal laugh of his just f*ckin rules.

In case our enthusiasm isn't already apparent, we were left really impressed with Batman: Arkham Asylum. The savvy script and excellent voice acting are sure to please Batman fans, while the combo fighting system and stealth elements look like they'll be great fun. The game is already looking incredibly impressive visually--hopefully an indication that it's nearing completion in time for its Q2 2009 release window. Eidos has promised us a hands-on with the game in the coming months, so hopefully we'll be visiting Arkham again for a more in-depth look shortly.

This game looks brilliant! It plays out just like a Batman game should. No super human powers, no button bashing; actual Batman style combat and crime solving. I guess they're really returning to Batman's routes as an detective rather than a superhero.

I just saw that on Kotaku. Amazing to say the least. I wasn't too sold on the idea of a GOOD Batman game but damn does this make me want to change my mind.

Seriously, those graphics look sexy, albeit too Butcher Bay for my tastes. Everyone looks so f*cking bulky, Batman included.

When it came down to the hand-to-hand combat, I wasn't too impressed. But the stealth element and the use of gadgets looks awesome. And here is the latest Joker Trailer, showing cutscene footage/gameplay:

Joker saying "Dark Knight" made me warm inside.

Kevin Conroy voicing The Batman? Mark Hamill voicing The Joker? This game has the perfect voice-over cast. The game play looks authentic and interesting not to mention the superb graphics. I'm not too bothered by the muscular physiques everyone appears to have, this is a comic book game remember, practically everyone is a bodybuilder in those things. tounge.gif

Yeah the only power Batman has is the power of money haha. This game real has peaked my interest and hopefully it delivers. A demo would be very much appreciated. wow.gif
