I've been using steam since 2004 and its great but waiting forever to download the game has got me undecided. Also i read on the steam forums that mods might not even work on steam versions, is that true?

Yeah the countdown on GTA4.net site is for the US launch. In this day and age it is a bit silly to still have this staggered launch crap, especially with a digital distribution system like steam. However we have to let publishers have their little security blankets I guess.

This got me thinking, Grand Theft Auto IV retail might have to be activated via Steam. The reason why I think this? 2K, Rockstar's "sister company" has recently started using Steam Works to handle activations of their games on PC. They did use Sony's copy protection for BioShock but received lots of criticism because of it. The best part of Steam Works for Rockstar? It's free to use and free bandwidth for updating the game.

Yes you can. However, if Rockstar uses Steam Works for activation, you won't need to manually add it.

It means you can download the game instead of going to a store and buying the DVD.
...also it means you'll have an adware on your PC : /

Adware? Hmm...How would you get adware if you only install Steam and the game? Oh yes that's right, your one of the people who think Steam is evil...mainly because you can't pirate games if they are on Steam.

Yeah, that's why Silent Hill: Homecoming got leaked to net like a week ago. sarcasm.gif

And so did Left4Dead like yesterday.

The only thing that Steam does right regarding warez is that it stops so-called "0-day piracy".

when you get ads pop up on your screen it means you have an adware, either you're completely clueless or you don't have steam.

The pop ups only appear when you start Steam, and it is usually either an offer from Steam shop or some free addons/patches.

If you have popups during normal work on the computer you probably wank off to porn way too much.

Silent Hill: Homecoming retail didn't use Steam as far as I can tell. (I don't have a copy to check that)

As for Left 4 Dead, the only versions I've seen are the 360 version and the encrypted pre-load version.

I knew it would be on Steam but with this game popularity it will take forever to DL from steam on release. Then the fact that it will be the same price as the store id rather have the DVD, packaging and an extra map! If it's $5-10 less then ill go with Steam. Either way you buy it you can play it on Steam.

It's really cool that they added it to Steam, but I'll still get my preordered copy from the store on release day.

Well WTF? if i buy it from STEAM and run it from STEAM it will use my steam account + my GFWL acc? or how will it work cuz this got me confused. It can't be retail GFWL and Steam to use steam it is all versions the same. I think you only buy and download it from steam, and after that you use GFWL.

Steam will be used to buy, activate, download, and update. Games for Windows Live will be used for achievements, multiplayer, etc.

I have to confess after my initial excitement over steam getting the game has now died I am in two minds about buying from steam again. I purchased Fallout 3 from steam and it cost me 40 I could have bought the retail boxed version for 24 and saved myself nearly 16. I am fast becoming very disillusioned with steam, I love the method of delivery but their prices are extortionate. So I am still going to sit on the fence and wait to see just how much they are going to sell the game for. If it is under 30 I might get it with steam if not i will just buy the boxed version. Shame there is no news on a special edition for the PC though, bad bad Rockstar.

Well just because you fap to porn all day and your computer is infected doesn't mean (apparently) that you know what an adware means, jeez people, when a a software runs an ad then it's an adware, don't be silly.

That's not Steams fault, that's the publisher's fault for not updating the price. Steam merely sells at what ever price the publisher sets and has no control over the prices.
