Stéphane d'Astou presented the very first image of Deus Ex 3 in the Montréal-based TV show M.Net. The game's production is well advanced in the Canadian city's new studios. The image is a sketch of a vast place, possibly a laboratory. "These pictures help our artists visualize the kind of look we want for DX3", said David Anfossi, the project's producer. "We have asked the original conceptors of the previous iterations to review the project and confirm the way we're heading". The pressure is hard on the young studio - even more so since the project's budget was reduced by the British heads of Eidos a few weeks ago. In an interview, the two spokesmen of the Montréal studio haven't been very keen on giving details about Deus Ex 3. "On Youtube, our fans analyzed image by image the trailer we released a few months ago...they worked very hard", said Stéphane d'Astou with a smile. There is currently no official release date.

Well, I'm playing Invisible War right now and I'm pretty much fed up with it. I hope this one is as good as the first.

Not much information besides that pic was released, the game is in early stages.

Big bump, but I found some great news guys. Check this out:

So in 3-4 weeks we should have some solid info.

Also I'm just wondering . . . has no one have interest in this game?

yes im very interested in this game played the original and loved it so much, I remember getting stuck on the first level for ages (statue of liberty) but i stuck with it and really enjoyed it with the variety of different enviroments.

One memory is going into the womens toilets and gettin told off by a girl in there, then when i went to get a mission from the boss he told me off as well. Never completed it though but im gagging for this.

please please say they are releasing console versions i will be gutted if they dont.

As long as they don't cock it up.

The original was great, but given the latest trends in gaming, I can imagine this turning into another dumb-down, brainless shooter.

Yea it's coming out for both PS3 and Xbox 360 as well as PC.

The thing is, Eidos understands that they f*cked up Invisible War. I'm pretty sure this game will be alot more like the original.

Also, forgot to post teaser trailer www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkXCE8CkNZU

I don't know, I searched Deus Ex 3 and nothing came up. Not that I doubt you, it's just that I thought no one had made one.

Deus Ex came out on PS2 and Xbox, why shouldn't the new one come out on next gen consoles? They're only marginally less powerful than a decent PC anyhow.

A. That's complete bollocks.

B.So what if it came out on PS2 and Xbollock? It was better suited to the PC.

As long as they're developing it mainly for the PC there's nothing wrong with having console ports too. If it's the other way around however... sad.gif

@elanman: "Xbollock"? Christ, that's worse than replacing S's with dollar signs.

Sigh.

Theres nothing stopping them making it on both consoles then making a marginally better version for PC.

And it doesn't matter how many people think PCs are teh sh*t, there will always be more demand for a game on consoles.

So why not make it for the PC and consoles?

The first details on Eidos Montreal's Deus Ex 3 have been revealed, in the pages of PC Zone's landmark 200th issue.

It's out in the shops on Thursday, but PC Zone subscribers are reporting that copies of PCZ number 200 have hit doormats this morning. The cover game? Deus Ex 3 - the long-awaited return of the world's favourite nano-augmented RPG-shooter.

In essence, it looks and sounds fantastic. The art direction is a beautiful meld of the renaissance and cyberpunk (tying into the game's Leonardo Da Vinci motif) and is going for a lot more stylised look than the sort of game that comes from the Unreal Engine cookie-cutter.

It sounds like Eidos Montreal isn't leaving anything to chance; a "powerful, layered" plot is promised for the third game - which has been confirmed as a prequel set in 2027- and the dev has even drafted in the consultative talents of original writer Sheldon Pacotti, while also gaining the blessing of both Harvey Smith and Warren Spector on the project.

You're cast as average joe Adam Jensen, who works as a private security officer at a technology lab specialising in biomechanical augmentations, a forerunner to the sort of nanotechnology shown in the original Deus Ex. One day the path of his life is unexpectedly altered as a team of black ops commandos break into his company's HQ, and using a security plan from Jensen's own hand, a mass slaughter ensues and the conspiracy begins.

"Deus Ex 3's vision of the future sees holographic screens flicker atop ferries moving back and forth in front of the Shanghai skyline, now split into two layers with the rich on the top and the poor in perpetual twilight below," says PCZ.

Eidos Montreal says it's more than aware of fan reaction to controversial second game, Invisible War, and promises mistakes, such as limiting ammo types to just one, won't be repeated.

This said, they are doing their utmost to please newcomers as well as existing fans. Perhaps controversially this time around combat won't be influenced by stats, but will rely purely on your personal marksmanship skills. Instead stats will influence "a vast array of fully upgradeable and customisable weapons", and you'll be able to tailor your arsenal to your play style with mag upgrades, scopes and other add-ons.

What's more, stealth will now rely on a cover system rather than shadows, and damage will be dealt with by a very Call of Duty-style auto-heal. There's probably going to be some debate over those two.

Augmentations have been bumped up and sound fantastic. 20 have been promised for the final game, ranging from 'bungee jump' tentacles that shoot from your back and anchor to a wall when you jump off a building, and the ability to punch through walls to grab enemies in neighbouring rooms.

Deus Ex 3 certainly sounds very, very promising - if a little controversial for die-hard PC fans. And just wait until you see the shots...

For more info and the first screenshots see the full ten-page preview in the 200th issue of PC Zone, out October 9 (and in subscribers' hands now). Happy 200th issue, by the way.

UPDATE: A slight clarification for those fearing that DX3 is straying from its roleplay roots - Eidos Montreal have confirmed, as is detailed in PC Zone issue 200, that you'll still garner experience points as you progress through the game. You'll then either choose to plug them into your self through your augmentations or your weaponry. Apologies for any confusion.

Well I guess I'll be the first to comment on the article.

Eidos decided to put in a 3rd person view during stealth; they also talked about auto heal. I'm a bit concerned how these two features would work.

Sooooo........ Anyone got any more news on this yet? The Eidos Forum has a bit, but there doesn't seem to be much media yet sad.gif

I have yet to find a game that betters the original, really hoping they don't cock up 3 like they did 2.

Deus Ex was one of the first games I bought when I switched to PC Gaming, not too long ago. Words cannot describe my love for that masterpiece of a game. inlove.gif

Saved my time and money with 2, after reading a few old reviews on it.

Definitely looking forward to this, though. It's right up there on my list, with the likes of StarCraft 2, HL2: Ep.3 etc.

Hopefully... smile.gif

Deus Ex was one of my favorite games, but I am not too excited about Deus Ex 3 given the piss-poor Deus Ex 2 release. What is that old saying? "Burn me once, shame on you; burn me twice, shame on me." turn.gif

I have hopes for this one; it was built with the original Deus Ex community in mind.

I kinda have high hopes for 3. Invisible War wasn't that bad, was nothing compared to the original though!

That was always the trouble - taken on its own IW was a great game, however as a sequel to DX it suffered as it just didn't come close to being as good.

PCs are not marginally more powerful than consoles. They totally anhiliate consoles.

But, as long as they develop for PC and then port to consoles, it's all good smile.gif .

New teaser trailer:

Also, IGN Developer Q&A. <-- Not much beyond what you can already find in the FAQ at the official forums..

Won't let go of my strong skepticism on this one, as those who've played the first (and second) will no doubt understand, and the above bits hardly change that. Hopefully actual gameplay, or at least in-game screenshots, will be shown at E3!

However, I'm open to the possibility of it being a good game on its own. Though, again, I can't be hyped one iota to it living up to the original.

...Eh?

Yeah, I saw some of this last night... and I mean late last night, leaked screens of the trailer (talk about hype, eh). bored.gif
I'm kinda half on half with this game, after Deus Ex: IW, I'm not sure I want to know how this game will turn out. Deus Ex getting the next-generization treatment is not really sounding all that great to me. sarcasm.gif I'm not really a fan of how some other franchises turned out after things like this.

But I will hold my judgement for more information... for now.

There's a big reveal and new trailer coming at E3, so I thought I'd bump this topic with a link to the Official site's forum FAQ which has a lot of info not discussed here. Tidbits include:

View shifts from 1st person to 3rd person when taking cover

Hacking is a strategy game, but you can (and need) to look around while doing it.

Hub based global travel. Check out the screenshots of a 2027 Shanghai

Non-linear, multi-path, multi-solution gameplay. Your choices have consequences.

Can't wait for E3 to hear more.
