Is Carl Johnson dead? Because in GTA IV, I saw some graffiti on a wall saying:

"Victor - never forget you / always remember you bro", "RIP Claude", "RIP Toni", "remember Tommy - u r still my hero", "Carl I love you RIP everyone miss you", "RIP Vic".

Did he get the electric chair for killing that cop or something?

I'm on Xbox and don't have digital camera.

SPOILERS:

It's on a wall in the building where you kill the drug dealers on the mission 'Shadow' outside the room where you kill them.

Lol at CJ being the only focus of this topic. It's weird that it'd say Victor's name twice... I need pics and this would be better in the GTA IV forum, also.

I found this picture in the GTA IV Easter Eggs topic:

It's not clear, so I can't tell whether there is a R.I.P. in it or not.

^I can make out the statement about Tommy but all I see before Claude's name is a big old symbol.

The GTA IV easter eggs topic states that it's only a reference to earlier GTA protagonists. It doesn't talk anything about R.I.P. Surely, if there was any such thing, it'd have been mentioned in the easter eggs topic.s

Actually it does say R.I.P. on the wall...

And also things as "We'll never forget you" and "You're still my hero".

But the messages are all written incoherently, so it hard to make out to which of the protagonists these statements refer, since all the major GTA protagonists' names are on the wall.

Tommy, CJ, Toni, Victor and Claude.

I think R* stated that all of the past GTA characters are dead, which is why none returned to IV. R* killed Tommy, CJ, Toni, Vic and Claude so they won't have to be asked on the next GTA, "Will Tommy or CJ make a cameo?", they can answer simply, "No. They're dead."

Pretty much what he clearly said. It was already made official thousands of years ago that all the past protagonists will be dead. In fact, the likely occurence of them being dead is very high. It's because they live the life of a criminal so they can be shot down the next day.

My idea is, they're not dead as of 2008 in the GTA III canon, but in the GTA IV canon they never existed.

What QwertyAAA said. I hope they make another game in the Gta 3 canon, the new characters are forgettable, with some exceptions.

Lets make it this way. They all existed in GTA III universe. We all know that Vic is dead and was probably killed in 1985. Rumours were that Tommy is rehabbed. Claude would always get into trouble so he is most probably dead. Tony became fat, so he sits in his restaraunt and doesn't leave it. Carl is a gang banger, so I feel that he is either dead or gone hiding.

In GTA IV universe, they're either different people or never existed.

Yeah but some people wont give up with that "Fido" crap.

And all of them are alive, even Vic. It's just that they are OLDDD and are fathers and got sons & daughters lol.

Wouldn't be the worst thing if they have killed off old CJ....he was by far the worst GTA character of all time (even worse than the little 2D men in GTA1&2)

I certainly wouldn't want him to be making any re-appearances

He is the thinnest, the buffest, the fattest character of GTA yet.

I guess this guy is one of the reasons why R* decided to dump the idea of past cameos.

I really hope that they just put that wall there for fun and that all those main characters aren't dead. I already didn't like Rockstar's "Starting off fresh" idea, but the fact that they killed them off is even worse.

Yeah I would have LOVED it if they continued with the GTAIII-canon in more than just 5 games, IMO they should return into it, I found that timeline pretty successful, I want all the unused characters return, such as CJ and Tommy, Sweet, Ryder and more, mostly from San Andreas.
That timeline is a real classic. GTA IV has in fact f*cked up everything with it's new and boring characters.

I agree with you. San Andreas has a good story line
and I would like to see CJ, Sweet, Kendel, and Ceaser
in a new or continued story line

Give it time!

In a couple of years you'll be talking in the same way about this cannon.

You haven't gotten emotionally attached to the new series yet, that's all.
