Go to start > Run, type dxdiag, click the sound tab, and look for what it says for name. What does it say there?

Have you tried updating the sound card drivers?

Nothing from updating Audio Drivers or doing restart.
Also, moving the .set file has no effect.

Try re-installing the game.

I remember I had the problem a while ago, I had to buy a PCI Sound card to fix the problem, the Realtek sound card is on-board audio. PCI Sound cards are very cheap.

Also try running the game in Windows 98 Compatibilty mode.

Fixed by disabling the card then re-enabling it.

I had that a while ago, I had to disable it, then re-enable.

Anyway, glad to hear it's working.

Go to Start --> Run, and type in services.msc.

A window will pop up with a list of services. Scroll down to Windows Audio. Right-click
and click on Properties.

Make sure that "Startup type" is set to automatic. Also, make sure, under "Service
status," start is selected.

Where you re-enable card i have same problem

Control Panel > Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers. Expand it, right-click on the name of your sound card and Disable. Follow the same steps to re-enable it.

No, San Andreas requires a sound card. You cannot play with out it.

You don't have to fix it.

Take it to your local Geek Shop, Staples, Sears, anybody who alleges they fix Computers.

If your only loss is when you reformatted your had drive. The computer only needs to have the Drivers replaced.
check out the makers Web-Site. You may be able to determine which Sound-Card your machine has and download the drivers from there.

maybe the Micro-soft OS has a up-date program for the driver too.
