It seems as time goes on, ESRB seems to describe more and more of the contents in games. Will theis hurt the sales of GTA IV? Even though Terminator, which was rated T for teen had this same desription?

Why would this hurt sales? Grand Theft Auto IV is originally aimed at mature audiences, it is an adult game even if lots of underage gamers will play it.

Yep, same thing I was going to say.

It should have no negative affects on sells.

Wouldn't it rather increase the sales? Wouldn't all those horny buggers who have yet to discover porn be all over a game with any sort of nudity in it?

If anything it would probably help the sale of the game. With all of the horny underage kids wanting to see something even if it is just pixels on a screen. And I'm sure their parents will buy it them.

All "partial nudity" ever means is "ass cheek" or "side boob"... there's not going to be anything explicit or any "strong sexual content"... so what's the problem?

WTF is partial nudity anyway? Is it in game characters nake or will we see some real boobs? 'Cause I can't imagine partial nudity being about a 3D model, plus weren't their strip clubs in VC?

Like I said, "Parital Nudity" = "asscheek" or "sideboob"

By partial nudity it means like the strippers will probably have their nipples covered, as you see in the "Move Up Ladies" trailer. I think it's a bit stupid though to censor anything like this because it's a game targeted at adults right? So why cover up the sexual content? Adults can handle it and don't go saying only perverts want content like that because in a lot of Hollywood films they have nudity and sexual content so what is the difference?

Being 23 years old it does not bother me either way.

But's a well accepted "fact" that we American's can't handle nipples. We flip out and go on raping sprees... the same reasons girls in my highschool were not allowed to wear tops that exposed their... GASP... shoulders!

No, not really.

What WOULD hurt GTA games is retitling them to XXXGTA ...Sony of course, would insert black bars across bare chests as was their policy in the past, while other companies bite the bullet and sales tank (sadly) biggrin.gif

Well I know in America they like to censor a lot of nudity so this is likely why Rockstar have to cover up the sexual content even though this is a mature game. When I was in Florida when I was 19 even at 2.00 in the morning language and nudity was still censored. Here in England anything after 9.00 or 10.00 o clock at night pretty much goes, nothing is censored. I respect that other countries have different morals though.

Can Americans curse on prime time chat shows? I heard they couldn't, it has to be BS

Yeah, and another thing you have to take into account is the number of people that turned 18 last year, like me lol.

Yeah one probably wouldn't normally think about that, but it is another fact that helps prove that the PN will not negatively affect sells. Though I have been getting GTA games on my own since I was about 15 going on 16. The gamestop around here is cool, well was. Now people get mad because they ask for ID when purchasing a Rated "M" game.

Yeah, subscription-only networks are the only ones allowed to air nudity or use the word "f*ck"... The reason is because the FCC controls virtually every form of communication in the USA. They seem to be run by puritans IMO.

We have daytime chat shows with very little "potentially offensive" stuff like cursing, and late night chat shows (none are in prime-time here) that are a little raunchier (but still cannot say sh*t or f*ck or a few similar words). Prime time shows are stuff like Lost and 24... you can curse somewhat, but too much is considered faux pas.

I think God of War was given a pass due to the fact that it dealt with mythology, and everyone knows that there's a lot of titties in mythology.

Anyway, America does not censor as much nudity as you would expect...Also did anybody watch the southpark movie when they aired it late at night? The didn't censor anything and they advertised saying they wouldn't....

True, Comedy Central is the ONLY non subscriber network that I have EVER seen to air things like that uncensored (saying sh*t, f*ck, and using animated bobs [are not real boobs though]). CC late night allows the use of the n-word by black comedians (stupid not to allow) also... unlike in daytime.

in my opinion, no rating will hurt this game its too big for something so small to hurt it. This game is the most anticipated game ever, people are making fake copies, fake gameplay screenshots, etc. You never see that with any other game

I was busy beating an old lady after I knocked her down with my car, when a pedestrian caught my attention in the distace. As I was running over to rocket her in the face, I saw that parts of her breasts were exposed. I was horribly offended, and wish to return the game immediately.

America is a great place and everything (New York was amazing to visit) but it's little things like this that make me glad I live in Britain it's not just the TV that is heavily censored from my understanding it's the long frequent breaks between programmes that drove me mad when I watched TV over there. I watched Friends in Florida and there must of been like 4 long breaks between that show alone where as in England we only have the 1 break between a half an hour programme.

Sorry for going off topic.

How come things like the Chappelle show was censored in a few outlets? DVDs offered the full unrating. M rating should be enough in any regard Boobs over bullets anyday. Try an Andy Sidaris film instead!!

On American TV, only about 2/3 of the time is the actual show. Every half show is about 22 minutes in length (except on subscriber networks like HBO -- no advertisements). Some network blocks (Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block for example) use a 4 minute break every eleven minutes (before the show, and one break in the middle) now in the states. Some networks like to slowly increase the number of commercials per half-hour when watching a movie -- this is to get more advertisement views during the climax of the movie.... meaning atrocious breaks in the immersion and action. I prefer the previous method.

EDIT:
QUOTE (Seachmall)
Would this be allowed?[

If you see Tom Hank's reaction to Jonathan using that word, you can see that it would not be. Jonathan could have been fined for using it while being white, whereas Chris would have gotten away with answering the question in the most direct way he could... but the words would still be bleeped.

OT: I agree, this censorship "standard" prescribed by the FCC and the "Department of Standards and Practices" is ridiculous and a hazardous to perception of things FIFTY PERCENT of us as humans have.
