FRA1Z3R, that's exactly what I thought and gave it some thought for a few days before I went back in since I have 90 days to terminate before the termination fee kicks in.

 

I went back in a few days later to confirm if that guy was correct and not just trying to get another "sale". Another rep who was not selling me the deal confirmed that the contract was in fact specific for the area and that it would cancel the termination fee if I was to move. To prove it to me he showed me the terms for the contract, and under termination fee it was specific in stating if the customer moved out of the contract service area, the ETF would be removed. He told me to bring the equipment back to that specific Comcast store and they "would take care of it".

I always listen real close to what reps are saying... Or rather what they're not telling me. I will ask specific questions. In this situation I would ask, "what kind of proof will I need to provide to you that I am moving out of the service area?" Because they won't take just your word for it. Hypothetically, if you were to move today, you would need to provide an electricity bill in your name and/or paycheck stub with your address, but in order to have that stuff you will probably have to live where you move to for a few weeks to a month to get that info, and you will have to pay for the service you are not using until you get that info.

I am just so hesitant to trust what CS reps say any more, even if it's more than one that I have talked to about it. In my experience, most of the time, their attitude completely changes when trying to cancel a service. Sometimes it goes smoothly, but it rarely does if a contract is in play.

This entire transaction was done at the store. I highly doubt I'll need that much proof, or any at all. My service address is on my account so I believe that's enough to prove I am a customer in the city and I would inquire at my new location which would terminate the contract. Whatever is necessary to prove it will be done. Since the Comcast store is a few blocks down the street from here I would be canceling there, not on the phone. I would be doing the entire moving process there.

 

I think considering I have a copy of the contract to refer to later on, I'm in the green. Ordering at a local company store gives you additional deals than if you ordered over the phone or over the Internet. The bundle I have wasn't available when I looked online - it was offered at the store and I am currently paying that price. 

 

Don't get me wrong, I see where you're coming from, but this isn't even close to the first time I've signed a contract so I know how to read the small print and make sure I'm not being screwed over. I wasn't born yesterday. :p

 

There's a pretty decent chance Comcast will have the best residential Internet solution in the Bay Area as well. At least until Google spreads their wings a bit more.

So, I think Vanto did a beautiful job with my new signature. There are some really talented people out there that do this kind of stuff.

Also, just to put my two cents in, I hate ISPs. They are the devil.

I totally agree. They can be. I think what improves the experience a lot more is face-to-face interaction and making sure you have your facts straight. I can't stand over-the-phone customer service. There isn't anything worse than talking to someone you can barely understand over the phone that knows less about what you're talking about than you do.

I wish we still enforced ant-trust laws in the US.  It's crazy how much power and what a lack of customer service these guys have.

I totally agree. They can be. I think what improves the experience a lot more is face-to-face interaction and making sure you have your facts straight. I can't stand over-the-phone customer service. There isn't anything worse than talking to someone you can barely understand over the phone that knows less about what you're talking about than you do.

I just hate how slow the internet speeds are compared to what the could give you. The fact that none of them have any kind of competition leads to them giving you whatever they feel like and the consumer suffers.

It is crazy. Like FRA1Z3R was getting at, it's always best to fully read what you're getting yourself into. Most people don't, and the companies know this. In the end, it's you that will be at fault as you had the opportunity to read what you're signing. The companies just take advantage of the fact most people are lazy.

What makes this hard is, at least where I live, if you want broadband cable you get comcast.  Don't like their user agreement? No worries, no broadband.  You want DSL?  Century Link... same deal, "no likey no DSLey."

 

We had these laws set up for a reason, god forbid we enforce them.

Sounds like AT&T. Interesting how they are rivals but use the same dirty marketing techniques. Consumer ignorance makes money.

I was thinking, "That's exactly how it is here in the springs", and then I remembered we had that discussion already of how we live in the same state. :p Same problem here, and that's why I don't talk to them on the phone. Go to a local retailer.

No idea, I've got a PS3 and GTA:V, but I've never touched GTA:Online, mainly cause I just don't like online gaming as it's full of idiots, I deal with childish pricks all day and I play games to get away from them not expose myself to more.

 

Besides I've not touched GTA:V in months and I'm waiting on the PC version.

Our stadium is being expanded by 15,000 seats so we can't play in it this year. Why our board choose to play in Liverpool I'll never know. I guess they noticed both towns end in pool and they thought the fans wouldn't figure out the difference.

I've never been in that situation before, still a bit of a weird decision. Might not have been any decent sized stadiums closer I guess.

 

I might have to start sharing my FM glory if I can ever back into the game..
