One of the points I was trying to make is that you can listen to the music without living your whole life based on whats "punk" or not.

Who gives a f*ck what kind of lifestyle you lead or image you have, it's f*cking music.

I once went to a Fear before the march of flames concert (with thursday) in one of those huge inflatable pink bunny outfits. The best part was it was in this tiny venue, so everyone was shoulder to shoulder the entire time. I ended up getting choked out by security and thrown to the street turn.gif

Black Flag pretty much pioneered sludgy hardcore punk with My War. Definitely my favourite album of theirs, and is partially responsible for the greatness of the Melvins.

Since when is there even a genre called 'Sludgy Hardcore' IMO I think you're pulling sh*t out of your ass so you sound like you f*ckin know something.

EDIT: if you google 'Sludgy Hardcore' the first link you get is to the Victory Records website, pointing to The Warriors. bored.gif

Victory Records hosts such other 'talents' as: Comeback Kid, Thursday, Silverstein, and Bury Your Dead. And among other mass produced post-hardcore mall kid music. whatsthat.gif

"Sludgy hardcore" is not a genre, I simply used it to describe the style of that particular Black Flag album. Have you even heard My War? If so, have you ever heard anything in the sludge/sludgecore genre? The pioneers of sludge metal (Melvins, Neurosis, Crowbar, Buzzov*en) were highly influenced by hardcore, namely Black Flag's My War album. They basically created a heavier, slower version of hardcore, with early blues-based metal influences.

QUOTE
Sludge metal is a form of heavy metal music that is generally regarded as a fusion of doom metal and hardcore punk often incorporating stoner rock.

QUOTE
My War is generally cited as being a major influence on many bands in the Sludge metal genre.

And just because a band fuses metal and hardcore it doesn't make it metalcore.

Can you string together one coherent thought? Even better, read and comprehend complete sentences to the extent of understanding my point, which was not a very difficult one to grasp.

Apparently not, and all you can do is avoid admitting you were wrong, ironically by being wrong yet again by insinuating I ever used the terms interchangeably. My War was sludgy (adjective) hardcore punk (subgenre), or if you like I could call it proto-sludge metal. Regardless of what you want to call it, the fact remains it was a notable influence on the well-established subgenres know as sludge and sludgecore.

I don't give a sh*t about what some record label describes their sh*tty post-melodeaththrashcore bands as. I know what sludge is, and My War is definitely a prototypical example.

Will someone enlighten me, and, by the likes of it, this young gentleman too?

What is punk? Nowadays and its past. My city has quite the punk hardcore scene, so I learned that punk is a lifestyle and a duty to make this sh*thole a better place. Meaning no harm or offence to the fine roamers of this topic, why would something with so little relevance, musically and just charged with political and/or satirical lyrics be used for something else other than a vehicle to something along the lines of a greater good?

I've got a couple local bands to recommend
Counteractive (out of Indiana)
The Atrocities (out of Wisconsin, i think)
Vexed Youth (Manassas, VA)

The last 2 are more hardcore punk, and Counteractive is just straight punk-rock. If you like that kind of music, you should check them out

useless bullsh*t.

I think you're just like every other 'I'm pro at everything that has to deal with music' sh*t head, you HAVE to label everything in one genre. Hardcore is Hardcore, the end. I'm sure Black Flag had influence on Metal/Post-hardcore bands, but giving them a genre of their own just because one album with nine songs on it is total f*cking bullsh*t, it would be like calling Alkaline Trio post-modern, post-sellout punk because they did a TSOL cover. bored.gif

@Mullen: IMO I think SSD's get it away is thier best album.
