GTASA: Liberty City

Many had requested a new thread, as a brand new Beta version of the mod had been released in a relatively outdated forum thread.

History:
Beta 5.0 incoroporates many new features, including some that were lost from previous Beta versions (for reasons unknown). The most welcome addition to Beta 5.0 is a complete set of car paths - so this time it's actually Liberty City! Beta 5's creation emerged after many users had difficulties in installing updates & fixes released for the previous Beta (4.0) in the form of Update Packages, consisting of 1, 2 and 3.

--------------------
Description:
Beta 5.0 includes the entire Liberty City map by XRK, as well as the the underwater seabed created by jcab42 for the GTA:Liberty City mod, which has been an encouraging source of inspiration for the continuation of this mod. This mod will not only have the great setting of GTA3, but will include the great features present in San Andreas, such as Interiors, Bikes & Helicopters/Planes, Gambling, Properties, Customisation and so much more. The full changelog of changed features can be found below:

--------------------
Full Changelog:
-> GTA3 Radar & HUD.
-> GTA3 Cars (some XBOX models with UV2 reflections).
-> GTA3 Claude playable character.
-> GTA3's peds.
-> GTA3 Weather.
-> GTA3 Loadscreens.
-> GTA3 Weapon models*.
-> GTA3 Car Colors**.
-> GTA3 Sounds (no radio yet).
-> GTA3 Menus and fonts.
-> El-Train and Subway-Train (simutaneous).
-> Air traffic (plane lands/departs from SSV).
-> Car Paths**.

Notes:
* Only some complete.
** Still needs some tweaking.

Frequently Asked Quesions (FAQ):
In the previous Beta's thread, many questions were repeatedly asked over and over, hence its considerable length. That's why I've added this section, so that SA:LC mod users can check here before asking their question.

Q. Will there be other properties or hideouts to buy?
A. Yes. This is a San Andreas feature we hope to add eventually.

Q. Can we have higher-poly models for ... ?
A. No. This is not a current priority. This will be done once we've sorted the GTA3 stuff first. Check out the additional mod 'Untold Stories' if you want these.

Q. Will M-57's cars be included?
A. No. We have asked, but have been waiting for almost 2 years now. So it seems unlikely.

Q. Will there be shopping, eating as well as player customisation?
A. Yes. This is a San Andreas feature we hope to add eventually.

Q. Can I get to San Andreas? Will San Andreas ever be added?
A. No. The SA map was removed for the purpose of this mod.

Q. What do I download? How do I install it?
A. The latest release (Version 4) requires the previous installation of Version 3 as well as the patch. Here are some short instructions:
  • If you are on a default San Andreas (1.00/1.010 [EU/US]) download Beta 5 Version 3.
  • Extract the contents of the RAR file to your SA root directory, confirming all replacement questions.
  • Then download the Patch file provided, and once again extract the RAR contents to your SA root directory, confirming replacements.
  • Now download and save Beta 5 Version 4 (this requires Version 3 and the patch to have been previously installed).
  • Extract the RAR file's contents to your SA root directory, confirming all replacements.
  • Alternatively -> Download and extract the combo package contents.
Q. Will there be a new storyline/characters?
A. No. There will only be the original GTA3 missions, with possibly some extra ones. The Untold Stories mod features new storyline and characters.

Q. I've possibly found a bug. What do I do?
A. Unless the bug you have found is really out of the ordinary, then chances are it's already known about, so it's best to keep it to yourself. If however, you do think it isn't obvious, then either post in this thread or PM me directly. While bug reports are appreciated, the vast majority of them are obvious and are being worked on using a priority system.

Q. Where are the missions?
A. Marty Chonk's missions are available from the phone booth across from Joey's Garage between the hours of 9:00 and 19:00. Paramedic missions are available by entering an Ambulance and pressing 2 (default). The 'Gripped!' mission is available by entering the Patriot in the park in Shoreside Vale at any time.

In time this FAQ will be updated, so check back occasionally.

--------------------
Reported Bugs/Glitches/Incompletes:
- Some of the car traffic is the wrong direction > To be fixed.
- Collisionless seafloor and tall skyscrapers > models need redone to suit SA's .col dimension limitations
- Unusual camera angles at savegarages > needs scripting

--------------------
Recruitment:
Currently, there are just a few devs working on the mod, but more are coming back following the mod's revivial post-Beta 5. However, the limited team could use some talentented folk like yourself to ease the workload a tad. If you can do any of the following, and are interested, let us know!

1. Cutscene animations and/or animations: this would require experience with .ifp, .cut and .dat files that San Andreas uses for cutscenes. If you worked in this area in the LC-mod (for VC) or have done so for San Andreas, let us know.
2. Main.scm Scripters: while I personally know enough to get me by, someone with experience in this field could sure come in handy.
3. Modellers/Texturizers: mainly conversion from GTA3->SA, like cars, peds etc.

IMO, you should make the GTA3 cars HD, once you finish the map.. =\ It just feels so wrong to drive rough blocks with crappy textures...

Sorry mate, that's wrong. I think you're confusing this with Untold Stories, which will have a different storyline/setting. SA:LC will have the original GTA3 missions, once we get a Mission Coder. Hope that makes you happier lt_yao - just good old GTA3, plus some extras. lol.gif

EDIT: Updated the FAQ with this common mistake of 'new storyline'.

Most of the code used in GTA:LC can be used for SA:LC as well - the player-specific opcodes would need to be replaced with their counterparts for actors and the animations would need to be rewritten - these are about the only major changes that come to mind. (Plus 'Plaster Blaster' would actually be properly playable in SA - that's not possible in GTA:LC and I don't see a way to achieve it sad.gif )

I might have a look at some of the more complex misisons to see how difficult it would be to convert them.

He's just being realistic - finishing the basic stuff (straight conversion from GTA3/GTA:LC) before concentrating on improvements of the old stuff.
And nothing prevents you from creating and distributing the HD-models yourself. Or you could join Untold Stories...

To quote CJ "are you blind or just stupid" would be appropriate here. For a start, I have not changed any of the handling at all, you can see it is identical to the one in San Andreas, the only part I had to change was the wheel size for 1 vehicle. Secondly, what hole did you pull this idea out of, that I don't want them to look any better than the originals?! I've made the cars based on their GTA3 counterparts, but have also gone to the effort of integrating San Andreas features, like the engine, number plates and proper lighting. Bumster, you should really do your research before you post complete rubbish in this thread, all you seem to do is:

1. Make stuff up and claim it as fact.
2. Make fun of the mod (when was your last contribution?).
3. Whinge about high-poly feet.

EDIT: @SteaVor - it'd be great to have someone like yourself either working with or alongside us on this mod, as your experience in GTA:LC is sure to come in handy. Also, you hit the nail on the head there with the direction of this mod, concentrating on straight GTA3>GTASA conversion stuff, and then improving on old stuff.

Jeez... you really like to string something out don't you? Let's just stop this and focus on the mod. The only reason I mentioned the handling was because I changed 1 tiny value in it so that my wheel sizes were correct - now please stop going on a bender and chill out. Read the following carefully:

-> The cars will be better than the GTA3 ones. They will look similar to the GTA3 ones, but they will be better - similar to the creations of M-57. Higher-poly, better textures - closer to San Andreas than GTA3.

-> And, if you're good, I might even give Claude higher-poly feet in the next update! (Seriously)

I'd enjoy the beta 4, but the beta 5 it's more better !
After a small road trip aroud all the island ( a bit more on the 2 fistr island) i can report some bug to fixed :
- some path are not fixed yet (but i know you're fixing that)
- no metro on subway
- still water problem on subway
- many alpha textures (like breakable glasses or a road texture on the second island) are not apply
- the gta3 car convert it's a good idea but just the police car is a real convertion because all the other are just piece of sh*t ( for me ) ; the cars haven't shadow, no reflection, no headlight and rearlight...
- The skycrapers collision are not made !
- The camera of the savehouse car park on the second island is not very good to me...

That's all for moment...
Don't take this like an offence, i just want to help you...
If you correct all this bug, the convertion will be perfect to me !

I am really glad that your going to "San Andreasise" this mod. Since GTA3 is a classic that needs to be remade.

But Fredskin's stuff is pretty important. Since No Metro on the subway, No car shadows or reflections and the collisions are very important to the game. I hope those will be finished before the first actual release

Anyway about the car related stuff. I suggest keeping the san andreas cars. But removing the cars that weren't in GTA 3. Then import some cars that werent in San Andreas. Since San Andreas did keep a lot of cars from GTA3 like the Stallion, Landstalker and the bobcat

it would be a time saver to just keep the ones san andreas had that gta 3 also had but it would be better to convert them from gta 3 anyway just to be sure its perfect tounge.gif

Hmm, not sure on that one. GTA3 and LC had the same across all three islands. I know there's different models for each (LA,SF,LV), nut it might just be easier keeping the same one across all islands, as all of it is Liberty City after all.

Also, added an update to the Update section on the front page. This has:
-> Updated mission script (v1.2)
-> Newer copcar model
-> Copbikes as well as LA peds and traffic on the streets.

Not much, but the copcar is now finished, and should be a good benchmark representation of future car models. The car has San Andreas features, but still maintains its GTA3 look.

Ive got a question about player customization. With Safehouses will it be like in GTA3 and you just run inside them to save or will there be a save icon? And will there be a closet to change clothing?

Also will you include clothing shops (Like Binco, Zip, Victim etc..) Since that would be a very good idea. You could just change some unused buildings (Like the ones around the ammunation in Portland) into food shops, hairdressers and clothing stores

We already have a couple of San Andreas save house interiors in the game, so I guess we could use the San Andreas save pickup (possibly a cd instead of a floppy - this has been suggested numerous times) as well as the simple GTA3 cutscene style.

As we are including clothing store interiors, then there will most likely be a closet in each save house with your previously purchased merchandise. A lot of interiors are already in the game, just look out for the yellow markers. For example, Rusty Brown's Ring donuts is accessable via the Cafe just beneath the Callahan Bridge where the game currently begins.

EDIT: This is in the FAQ, be sure to check there first.

I noticed that you used the interior of caligulas and made it the interior of that casino in saint marks (which is obviously much smaller). will you change this? and will you replace those weird trees from gta3 too?

The casino interior's exterior marker's location may be changed to suit, but the Casino itself shall remain the same. The GTA3 trees might replaced ... eventually.
EDIT: This has been answered already in the FAQ on the first page - be sure to check there first.

NOTE: added a sendspace mirror of Beta 5 as I know some have difficulty with Rapidshare. Check the first page's download section for the link.
