To celebrate my long-awaited purchase of a Canon 5D Mk. II, here are some shots taken with my old 350D. :p

Haven't had much time to play with it (got it on Friday), hope to go out and shoot someday soon.

It's awfully annoying how Google Photos reduces the quality around dark colors ...

I took my camera out with me yesterday when I went out for the day. The first is in my own neighborhood, which I'll be moving from soon, so I've been snapping a lot of pictures around it lately, for memories I guess.

Those were actually the only shots I took yesterday that I even liked. I can't wait for the summer, that's when the sky isn't so dreary and the colors really come out in things around the city. I actually found yesterday's weather depressing, but maybe since I'm just not used to it being like this in March, this winter has gone on for too long.

Hi guys, I really want a zoom lens around the lines of 18-250 with a small aperture, making it possible for me to make distant (around or past 5 meters, if possible) portraits with clearly visible (shallow?) depth of field. It'd be nice to keep the price as low as possible, but not lowering the quality too much. The lens needs to have some sort of image stabilisation (correct spelling ..?), because my Nikon body does not have this.

I have the Nikon D3200. Any advice?

I own the same camera, but I'm afraid I can't help, but I'd be interested in knowing as well, since all I own now is the stock lens.

Does anybody think I should buy a DSLR A330? Are there better cameras out there around the same price?

I have a 3 hour Photography Mock Exam on friday, do you think this is a cool idea? and what would you add into it?

I'm going to take pictures of my Nike Roshe Run in David Hockney's style and stick them inside the shoe box and maybe cut around the lid and put a see through plastic (forgot what it's called, it's the plastic that is used for packagings and you can see through the plastic so you can see what is inside).

Not bad for a phone picture, and one of the few I've taken with a phone that came out alright. Chicago in the evening, reminds me of "Watch_Dogs."

Few shots I took the weekend with the phone camera. The fact that it has an annoying automatic zoom and that I didn't see a crap with the sun reflection didn't help at all. I thought they were gonna be worse, anyway.

Here are 2 photos from my SX600 HS. Besides the zoom, I'm a little unimpressed. Maybe I just need to mess around with the ISO or something but right now the picture quality isn't even as good as the SX120 IS in my opinion...

13893753349_412ce94fa3_k.jpg

My feelings are mixed right now. If my photos end up disappointing after me trying so many different features/adjustments out then I'll be sending this camera back and might just wait and get a better one. What really pisses me off is how if you focus on something like a car in the daylight when it is mostly cloudy, the sky just washes out. At low ISO too. I'm like, damn that looks terrible. I don't want the camera to not be good at what I intentionally got it for which was car spotting.

Well the sky is much brighter than everything on the ground that you're exposing for. The dynamic range of what's in the shot is just too great. That's just something that's going to happen. If you can't recover the amount of sky detail you want in post processing you could actually underexpose the shot a little and then lighten up the darks a bit.

I'm not familiar with that camera but can you preview your shot and have some sort of "highlight alert"? On Canon bodies, if any pixels are registered as pure white, and unrecoverable, they will blink black and white.

Sorry for the late reply, it's some mountainous area in Campoo, northern Spain. It's not too tall (the first one was shot in the tallest peak (2.222 meters)) but it's neat to spend the morning there.

In the background can be seen Picos de Europa, which are taller and tougher, to spend the whole day there (start walking at the morning early and return at afternoon). It's always relative, anwyay. We had planned to go there instead but due to the weather reaports we declined.

Nice, I'll bet it's cool to spend the morning in the mountains like that. It reminds me of how I should probably go out and get more "natural" shots, unfortunately I live in a city and far from any mountains.

13925649453_d5e0a48d81_h.jpg

Not my favorite shot here, it came out a little grainy but I don't think it's too bad.

13925484254_6ba9ca6bcf_h.jpg

A "vintage" edit to a previous shot. I kinda like this, it looks like it was taken in the 60s or 70s.

So I adjusted my ISO to 100 for daylight and snapped a few pictures and I'm satisfied. The grain was fine and the washout wasn't a prevalent as before. For dusk, what ISO should I use?

The lower the ISO the greater the dynamic range will be, but it will only affect it so much. It's possible that you just had more of the sky in the shot, so the camera automatically adjusted to expose for it. You should do some reading up on some basic exposure stuff ( basic is only a relative term here, it can get pretty complicated ). That will help you with your other question as well. There are 3 variables that you deal with in exposure, so there is usually no definitive answer as to what settings you should use in a certain situation. You just need to learn how to compromise between shutter speed, aperture and ISO to achieve the photo you want.

With that said, it depends what you would want to shoot at dusk. If you were shooting something like a sunset with a silhouette of a palm tree in the foreground ISO 100 would be just fine. It all depends on the situation, what you're shooting and how you want the photo to turn out.

I'm getting happier with my photography and I'm reading about exposure levels, contrast levels, and how to angle my shots. I learned that reducing my exposure level whilst raising my contrast level decreases wash out - at least with my camera. I also learned that focusing on whatever car is in front of me and then angling the shot towards the way that I want it to be is a smart thing to do.

Anyways, here is a shot I took in Alamo Heights (taken a while ago).

Due to several modifications to my settings my photos no longer suffer from being overly saturated, dead, or washed out. There is a tee bit of grain but not enough to ruin thre photos.

14129634049_7dd229cdc8_b.jpg

All I need to work on is how to angle my vehicular shots and I need to experiment with different zoom points - just so my pictures can look much more exciting and less amatuer.

Picked up the camera after ages. It's a EOS Rebel SL1 (Canon 100D for you Europeans). These were just two of my favorites. I wasn't really trying to take some nice looking pictures most of the time as I spent it fooling around with my niece since I haven't seen her in a while. Next time when I go out I'll try to get some nicer shots but for now this is all I got.

One blatant attempt at taking a nice pic. I actually liked the outcome but regret not having another one focused on the log.

And my niece being a goofball as usual..

Wow, stunning. Love those photos! I hope to have my own DSLR soon one day.

Like you said, would have also been nice to have a picture focused on the log. I love the amount of color, contrast, and saturation in the photos.
