I spent a semester in Barcelona and it was fun watching the different murals come and go. Click for bigness.

This is the wall outside school. There's construction going on behind...

Apparently these are comic book characters?

I'm sure there's a message here. She loves ham?

This guy was all over the place, usually small and off to the side of a larger piece. Dunno if it was someone's signature, or a Spanish thing or what...

The thing about the graffiti there is obvious: it's art. It's not some guys name (or what he wants people to call him), hastily done in the middle of the night. These guys come in broad daylight, set up with 40 or so cans, and get to work...sometimes 3 or four artists at once. They don't tag to stick it to the man - they have a message or inspiration, and it's culturally accepted to show it to the world...or at least the guys at the nearby construction site. They draw crowds at times, and it's really impressive just watching a piece come together. A week later it gets covered up by another artist with another vision.

We went on a Spanish trip with school in summer 2005, and were assigned some time with the local kids. I thought it was going to be really awkward and crap, as they didn't look too exciting. I was dead wrong, as they took us to an abandoned swimming pool which they'd spent all year scrawling on. They shoved some spray paint in our hands and we were let loose on it. I don't have pictures so I don't know if this constitutes as a spam post or not.

On the other hand, I do have a link to graffiti in my city of Manchester, some are really quite simple but effective, the best kind of graffiti in my books. A simple scrawl with a name or a message is more powerful than anything else in my opinion.

Most people i know do it strictly because they enjoy painting.

Have you ever considered trying reverse graffiti? If you don't know about it, here is some info on it.

http://en.wikipedia....everse_graffiti

http://www.inhabitat...verse-graffiti/

I really think this piece would look awesome on a heavily rusted or dirty metal siding. Possibly with the metal siding having bolts as well. Something similar to:

http://www.pjchmiel....metalsiding.jpg
http://gug.sunsite.d...s/988696820.png
http://www.pixelmap..../ts_amer_07.jpg
http://freetexturema...al0002.jpg.html

Imagine that as reverse graffiti. Dirt and dark siding as the outside with the lettering clean and a type of sanded shiny metal.

Idk. I think that would look pretty f*cking awesome.

edit: Some more links about reverse.

This one is about viral marketing used with it confused.gif : http://weburbanist.c...verse-graffiti/

I like it, I'm really pathetic at making tag art. tounge.gif

Also, I like the flag in your signature, but you may want to add a border.

It's got that old school feel to it. Reminds me a lot of the CT scene in the early 90s. CYCLE, JIVE, ACID, GESER, TAHOE and all those niggas puttin in work up here with a similar style. But for the love of god, fix your f*cking E. E's are supposed to have three prongs, not 2 1/2. Not feelin' some of the extensions either but that isn't bothering.

Yeah, I gotta agree with Laz here.

You've got the paint, but you don't have the skills. I'm betting my nan could do better. Practice alot on paper inside the house, then use plywood or somesh*t in your backyard. Just get better before you hit the streets.

Like i said, it was all painted in awkward conditions. Theres a couple of legal spots i could bother with and a couple of other places to practice, but eh, we shall see.

nahh
dont sketch that much at all during winter...
go into this sorta hibernation, then come spring i go all out.
cant wait for the new season.

btw...
any of you who catch marker tags, what do you use?
I use my own homemade ghetto ass krink mop... use a shoe polish thing... take the shoepolish outta that, add you're own ink and voila DRIPS. If i get pics of a few tags i caught with it ill put them up.

Ahh my days of writing REM are over now, i got arrested for doing a freight when i was 14 and got a reprimand untill im 18 sad.gif . The days of working out escape routes and plans to graf without getting caught are missed but i doubt i will return as id rather have a job then a criminal record.

Also whoever was saying practise more on paper before you hit the walls i dont think you have taken into consideration the fact that you have to get used to using cans to learn can control. f*ck painting on plywood because its a waste of paint, get out there and start bombing immediately and put dates like '08 because gradually as you get better people will notice the difference between your work from now untill 2009 and then will recognise that you have skills.

Go ahead say why should we trust your methods if you already got busted i wont take offence because it wasnt my fault i got caught.

so do you make sure theres enough polish to mix up with the ink? And you use the actual shoe polish casing eh? f*ck im gonna look into this, nothing writes like a marker. I have the same case from a marker that ive had for years, superstition eh, i just replace the ink and the nib, and mix up different inks to get some mad colours and streaks.

If you don't know how to make ghetto krink and a mop, you've got a problem.

When your tags as fresh as mine, and plus the fact i aint paid for a marker in years, sh*t dont really matter.

Cambo..what kinda sh*t did they lay on you..like if you were caught again, what did they say would happen? Oh and im assuming it was BTP, f*ckers they are.
