My mom forwarded this to me (not the virus):

QUOTE
A new virus has just been discovered that has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive ever. This virus was discovered yesterday afternoon by McAfee . This virus simply destroys Sector Zero from the hard disk, where vital information for its functioning are stored.
This virus acts in the following manner:
It sends itself automatically to all contacts on your list with the title:

"You've received a Post Card from a Family member."

As soon as the supposed virtual card is opened the computer freezes so that the user has to reboot. When the ctrl+alt+ del keys or the reset button are pressed, the virus destroys Sector Zero, thus permanently destroying the hard disk. Yesterday in just a few hours this virus caused panic in New York , according to news broadcast by CNN.

This alert was received by an employee of Microsoft itself.
So don't open any mails with subject: "A Post Card from ." As soon as you get the mail, delete it! Even if you know the sender!
Please pass this mail to all of your friends.

Forward this to everyone in your address book. I'm sure most people, like myself, would rather receive this notice 25 times than not at All

The main give away is that you can't send postcards through the internet you can only send e-cards

I never check my email except for verification from forums or games, so this won't really effect me if it's real.
Edit: Fake, nice try though, actually. I actually believed this for a few seconds. Stupid f*cking me. I needa fix my bullsh*t detector, it's failing me.

Can you find the CNN broadcast somewhere?

If we can identify what it looks like then we can look for another version of it or maybe get it downloaded to Youtube.

Na, it isn't true. I checked CNN, I googled, and I talked to a few people I know from New York.

Does anyone have a linky to one of those TRUE vs FALSE Sites that find whether it is fake or not and then put the results up?

I know some of the forumers are familiar with these sited from previous threads.

Dude, it doesn't matter, if there was a virus as malicious as the email was making it out to be, it would have been in all sorts of news headlines by now. It's fake.

I'm not saying she sent you a joke email for sh*ts and giggles, I'm saying she probably fell for the hoax. I remember a hoax just like this a few years ago.

You know what I hate about this, everyone keeps say HEY HEY HEY look at this, there is a virus spreading. When everyone keeps spreading this stuff, it eventually causes some form of Internet traffic jam. Even on Facebook, people send this stupid message, HEY Dont add this guy cause he is a hacker. suicidal.gif

Tell your mom she is an Internet noob.

Well, when I read the rest of the thread, I gathered from other's comments that they had checked the news and found nothing.

I bet people that work in the eGreeting industry hate this email.

You know, I don't belive that any of these 'virus warnings' you get in your email are true. I don't remember ever getting one that even looked like a half way legit virus description.

No colonel Sanders, you're wrong. Momma's right.

edit: more on topic, unsure at the validity of the claim that it "erases your sector zero" from your HD, I did a quick google search. First result?

BS, of course. Looks like Momma's wrong again!
