Aah, good to be modding again. Anyways, after a few weeks or so of hard work, I've completed my latest mod. This mod shows the effects of Liberty City after a heavy blizzard. This one brings a new winter atmosphere to Liberty City and what not. I'll just let the screens and promo video do all the talking for me:

It's now the two year anniversary of my most popular and favorite mod, Frozen Bone County. Since then I delayed a bunch of mods, cancelled some, and in general just saw a decline in my own work. I'd like to think that has ended, and I have made a mod that I am truely satisfied with and proud of. Something I haven't done since FBC. So go, enjoy, leave feedback, whatever.

UPDATE: Thanks to Steavor and AK-73, the mod now has realistic snowfall! It is included in the new version, which has other small tweaks as well.

Collision, textures - TheDude5k
VC Weather config - AK-73
Modified config for proper snowfall - Steavor

I'm in discussions to have it mirrored on other sites, but for now you can grab it here:
Download Frozen LC 1.1
MEGAUPLOAD (mirror)

Happy Festivus!

You can make snow falling effects with this tool. in case you didn't know, or is it already snow falling in these screens?

Anyway - I'd love to play it, seriously. A winter-themed GTA:LC would be a great addition for holidays.

EDIT: I will try this out when i'm on my desktop pc.

Yeah right now the snow is as good as it gets without using that tool, which I didn't even know about.
I'll try to include it in a future version.

GTA:LC is already utilizing VC:Weather (that's how the authentic GTA3 lighting was restored) and the config file includes some ready-to-use configurations for light snow, heavy snow, ... , so it's as easy as editing a text file to make real snow possible.
The 'Snow' state replaces the 'Stormy' weather state which is not used by GTA3/LC anyway, so there's no downside at all.
The custom snow texture (named boats_08) needs to be put into particle.txd to be recognized by the tool, then you're ready to go.

I inserted the texture and enabled the snow in the .cfg file, but all that changes is the lighting is GTA 3 now.

I'm kinda tired so I don't have time to constantly configure and tweak the settings files to get snow to appear..so if you can
somehow get it to work, maybe post the code here or upload the files themselves, I might update the mod to include them.

Is there a way to have snow without the GTA3 lighting though? I'm sure many people love it, but personally I really like the LCS/bright
look that's in the early versions of LC. Anyway, I think the modified rain texture I made will make due for now, but if we can get some more realistic looking snow in there that'd be even better.

I'm experienced with editing the config file, so I'll see what I can do.

The lighting is influenced by the tint values (tables at the end of the config file). They can be turned off (= set to VC default) by setting global setting C to 0.
That means changing the first line from
0 0 1 00 to 0 0 0 00

Ok, now lighting is normal. I have boats_8.tga (heavy snow) inside my particle.txd now. However in-game, it just rains. I use the cheat CATSANDDOGS to enable Stormy Weather. If you could help me figure out how to enable the snow, at a realistic speed, I'll edit the mod, re-upload it, and credit you in the ReadMe too of course. tounge.gif

There were initially, but then we found out the textures would be incompatible with 3. I'm still keeping an eye out for a way to convert it to 3, but I won't make any promises.

EDIT: Yeah 3 uses 8-bit textures. Now I'm not too sure, but I believe attempting to convert my 32 bit textures would seriously downgrade the quality and just make the whole thing moot.

Megaupload link should still work. I'll unlock it at FileFront and if me and Steavor and can get the new snow working, I'll upload that seperately so it'll be optional if you want to use it or not.

Enjoy. biggrin.gif

Great mod! cookie.gif

I like snow in LC also biggrin.gif

I have small idea.
If there's snow everywhere, could You please, edit handling.cfg so that cars would skid. It would add more realism to the game.

I did the same thing back in 2004, but never released the mod, later in 2005 I had a plan to get this in SOL, as a season change.

Snowfall thanks to Steavor, based on AK-73's Weather Config. Also a few minor tweaks. New download links in original post. Expect a new video too, but not longer than 40 seconds. If I could get some good feedback here, that'd be great... smile.gif

Looking awesome! But i saw that newspaper, and i got an idea. Why not change it to say like: "Coldest winter ever in Liberty City."? colgate.gif

not bad, but someone has already done one of those mods back in 2004. What i suggest you do, is make trees without leaves, e.g. make a brown texture for the bark and then add the alpha with couple of branches instead of leaves in it and in a game the trees will be NAKED! biggrin.gif

Looks great - and I didn't even know what your snow texture looked like because I was too lazy to extract it. tounge.gif The atmosphere is truly convincing now...

My idea is this: rearrange the geometry of the snow parts so that it is a bit higher than the col model. That will make it look as if the player and vehicles sink in. What you'd also need is to make the snow surface as sand in the col model. What I am thinking of is changing particles so that it looks as if the vehicle's wheels spray snow instead of sand.

As you can see, I had considered such a mod myself but never got around to doing it myself because of other projects. If you need some mem hacking to enable additional snow fx, you got a coder. smile.gif Just pm me. smile.gif

Alex

PS Maybe you could re-use some stuff from the old GTA3 Max Payne Mod?

looks good, you should add in a slush effect on the side like the roads had snow on them at some point, or mabey a snow plow effect on the side of the road. butt it looks really cool, will try icon14.gif
