In the last chain game I participated in, I had Demerst's Mission Passers' code tool (main.scm) in place when doing the chain game (...)
I use the original V.2 script files (the ones that came with the game when I first installed it), and it is the ones that are used when playing the chain game. Every now and then I have to run the save through pdescobar's "sa id converter" program before I can play in the game, is that what's wrong, you think?
AFAIK, there's basically two aspects that make a savegame compatible or incompatible. The main thing is: the correct set of script files and/or mods have to be used. Always. The second aspect only holds for players with v2, and this is the thing about the correct ID (ID = four bytes in the savefile; different for each different gta_sa.exe). A v1 game won't check the ID, but a v2 game does, hence the 'id conversion'. (BTW, gtasnp now auto-converts files, so we won't have to do it manually anymore).
Bottom line being:
Everyone has to use the right set of script files / mods.
v2 players additionally need savegames with the right ID.
PS- as for the downgraded question, I only used the V.1 scripts one time (I was just testing it out to see if it worked on a V.2 game, but that was before this round started.
I play w/ a v2. It was downgraded, I went through alot of trouble to get the patch off..I'm pretty sure it is...but if its not, then Oh Well.....
Ok, as for downgraded v2s, as I said I don't really know what's happening during downgrading. Different script files? Different .exe? Which files get changed/altered etc...? Can you actually play a downgraded v2 with v1 scripts? I thought that even with a downgraded v2 you still can't play v1 savegames?
