I've only read about this tool and Demarest certainly knows what he's doing, but I'd say mods that alter the script files can generally cause the eventual glitch. No, the ID thing is definitely not the cause. A file with the wrong ID just won't load for v2 players.

AFAIK, there's basically two aspects that make a savegame compatible or incompatible. The main thing is: the correct set of script files and/or mods have to be used. Always. The second aspect only holds for players with v2, and this is the thing about the correct ID (ID = four bytes in the savefile; different for each different gta_sa.exe). A v1 game won't check the ID, but a v2 game does, hence the 'id conversion'. (BTW, gtasnp now auto-converts files, so we won't have to do it manually anymore).

Bottom line being:
Everyone has to use the right set of script files / mods.
v2 players additionally need savegames with the right ID.

Ok, as for downgraded v2s, as I said I don't really know what's happening during downgrading. Different script files? Different .exe? Which files get changed/altered etc...? Can you actually play a downgraded v2 with v1 scripts? I thought that even with a downgraded v2 you still can't play v1 savegames?

I almost always try to make sure i've got the correct (original) files in place before doing the chain game, but the last round or the round before that(i'm not sure which round I didn't compete in)., there were 2 or 3 times where I forgot to replace my original main.scm and ended up playing with the mission passer's scm. I read that the code tools are backwards/forward compatible with any save and it is only the main.scm file affected. I agree that only original files should be used during the chain game, and I will be sure to check my install directory to be sure for now on.

lol, I really have no idea, i just no i was able to mod...moddin got boring, so i deleted the patch, and about dwngrded v2, u CAN NOT play w/ v1 savegames, so that is correct, the rest, idk. dontgetit.gif

Umm...First I got the first snapshot...then fell off the cliff thingy on my way bac, so i could take the snapshots in the airport colgate.gif then i swam to boat, boated around mercie_blink.gif (I was tryin to find a way to get back onto land), then I ran into the wall that the Patriot sits on, where the aircraft carrier is, then I got 4 Stars anuj_cop.gif (for some odd reason), went real fast, cuz i was gettin chased by police boats and choppers. @GTAGangsta58: The 6-hour timer starts after the finished turn is posted, that was 03:11 in this case. then 6 hours after that would be 09:11. i'm pretty sure that's what girishb_86 was talking about.
Hope that helps you figure it out. You may also need to check your settings for time zone & daylight savings.

oh, & congrats on youre 4-star exploits, you've done better than I've been able to do with it.! icon14.gif

Bridge Barriers

We should try out with Yay-Ka-Boom-Boom - have a player with v2 do the mission and check out the barriers after that...

I'm still a bit confused about radioman's report about missing barriers:

I'm trying it right now and i'll be right back with my results.

I tried both files, and results were the same for both-No barriers between I-15 to Las Vegas, No barriers Los Angeles tunnels to countryside and none between Los Angeles to countryside by bridge(the one by Beverly Hills.). Original V.2 files used to test.

That's a good idea, maybe Seddo, radioman or blentz could give it a try (if their time permits), I think they all have V2. We'll of course need a V1 player to follw that up & check for barriers also.

@JAJ, I'll volunteer to be the tester for "ya ka boom boom" mission as the V.2 player.
Also, having no barriers makes it easier to do the 4-star stuff in the beginning, so it's not really a bad thing-imo. The barriers are in place as usual on my ps2 version, but not on the PC version.

OK, thanks, we'll hope that it turns out that you can count it as a turn but it will still be interesting to see if there are barriers for the V1 players. Maybe we've found a way to remove the barriers for the V2 player. smile.gif

It's honourable about only saving once, but I think we all agreed some rounds ago that this is not a strict rule and on a long turn you may save more, esp. after tricky or long missions. Not to just forward the game clock though, or things like that. Anyway, at most save houses you do not need to save the game to lose your wanted level. Just change your clothes and you're sorted. wink.gif

Thanks for your help! smile.gif ...but may I say: oops. wow.gif So you played with an original/unmodded/not-downgraded v2 and you didn't have any barriers in JAJ's very first save, made on an original/unmodded v1. Scary...

It has definitely *nothing* to do with the savefile *conversion*. It's an incompatibility issue. Either between v1.exe and v2-scripts or between v1/v2 and downgraded v2 .exes and scripts. At this stage it would really be highly interesting if the downgrader patch comes with a new gta_sa.exe. If it doesn't alterthat .exe file, then the ID of the savegame would be the same as in an original v2 savegame, afaik. ...Actually I'm kind of wondering why no one who uses or has used the downgrader can actually tell what's happening there... How do you actually downgrade? Do you extract some files from a zip or do you execute a patch.exe or something?
