By the looks so far GTA 4 is looking fairly realistic do you reckon weapons should float around in mid air or should you be able to pick the up from dead bodies and tables?

I think what with all the FPS games doing that nowadays, they probably wouldn't miss it out in GTA 4. But remember, that's got nothing to do with the topic in question wink.gif

I can't imagine having uber graphics and all this realism then seeing a big spinning glowing Flamethrower. I reckon they'll leave it on the floor, or a table or body, and have a slight glow, just so you know it's there.

I think you should go to the weapon and press a button and pick it up it shouldnt float in a circle

If they weren't floating in a circle and just laying on the ground, they would be hard as hell to find. And i dont want to have to kill all these people just to get some weapons. The circling weapons havent really ever bothered me that much, maybe they can just take away the glowing colors

Didn't they take the glowing colors away in GTA San Andreas? notify.gif I remember perfectly that in the back of the Grove Street hood and in the San Fierro airport weapons didn't have glowing colors.

I think they should be obvious, but they can lie around that's fine, but aslong as it has an aura that is obvious.

They could leave the weapons on the ground with a small glow, it worked in The Warriors.

How about if they didnt appear in back alleys and ontop of buildings and you could only get them from ammunation and dead bodys then they wouldnt be so hard to find

lol yeah my bad, ive been playing LCS and VCS lately. So yeah i was pretty much satisfied with that. I like the weapons appearing on rooftops and alleyways too because that makes aquiring weapons at the beginning of the game a lot easier when you dont have a lot of money, weapons arent unlocked at ammunation, and the only weapons you can get from peds are 9mm, baton, bat, maybe a sh*tty SMG if youre lucky.

Floating weapons would look weird as hell with that realistic look GTA4 has. I know Rockstar thought of something good though.

How about you see a little animation of him testing the gun when you walk over one?

If you're going to get all preachy about realism, then weapons shouldn't be lying in locations scattered around cities, let alone loaded ones, in the first place.

And once you pick them up, you come back moments later and - BAM - it's there again.

I was going to post a topic about this, but I never did in the end.
This is a very very good point. I just don't think I am up for seeing my weapons spinning around in illuminated circles anymore. it was stupid, even in GTA3 I thought. one of the many things I have never liked.

Yes, they should just have weapons laying on the floor realistically.

Everyone does realise that there is a floating rotating chainsaw in the trailer right?

So yea I guess that answers the question.

EDIT: it doesn't glow though.

I wanted to remind of the chainsaw, too; but there's the fact that they've still got 6 months to go though. Might be just testing stuff.

I don't see how some people can see it's a chain-saw. Looks like nothing to me.
I like the idea of having them lying on the ground, but with a slight glow, so you'll see them. icon14.gif

I think all those asking for more realistic weapon placement are missing one important point: The rotating action of the pickups is easily spotted from quite a way away... it attracts your eyes... how could you possibly see as clearly if it was just lying on the floor/table etc.???

This is GTA, not Resi, Htiman or anything else... too much realism will completely spoil the feel of the game.

Rockstar are keeping the existing method anyway by the look of it if the chainsaw on the boat in the trailer is anything to go by...

...and yes IT IS a chainsaw... zoom in on the HD version of the trailer slow down to 50% speed, and its unmistakably a bloody chainsaw!

READ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Basically look at they way this game is going, R* are going for a gritty feel to the game as well as more Realism, I think having Floating weapons that have pink, yellow circles around them would ruin the feel!

They could however use darker coloured circles around the weapons e.g. Grey, White, Black and stick to the theme of this game

Since when is white darker than anything?

I don't really care either way. So long as there are plenty for me to find/buy/steal.

In San ANdreas, the weapons float, but don't have any coloured circles around it.

And by the looks of it, it's the same case with GTA IV. The Chainsaw (yes it's definately a chainsaw, I checked it just now) does not have any aura around it at all. It just floats, making it visible but without being too fake. Just the way I'd like it to be.

I doubt thats a chainsaw. Yes, I've looked, and it looks like light streaming across an aliased handrail. But see a chainsaw if you must. What would a chainsaw be doing there anyway?
