That doesnt justify the locking. Why not just delete those posts and carry on...should we make a new topic now or what?

To answer you Sup3rman, there was a nice set of rules that was pinned before here, I don't know who unpinned it but there was probably a reason, I might again come up with a new set when I am not busy with work, I wouldn't mind Sivispacem's, Lurches, and some other big contributors here to participate in it.

The thing is, most topics like fcken gorgeous autos suck, because they do not carry any particular value, etc, some of the quite superficial discussions could be carried in the car talk topic etc. instead. Classic VS topics suck as well (muscle vs import, lambo vs ferrari), once upon a time there was a strict ban on them. Also, at some point I saw like three topics about "virtual garages", same theme but, you know, three interpretations (lottery win, 5 car garage, your utlimate cars etc), these suck balls too.
I will pin some of the worthy topics asap actually, they deserve traction.

It's sh*t how expensive car insurance is in the UK for young drivers, I passed my test in March and I'm looking to be driving some time this year. A hard task considering I'm getting quotes from 3000-4000 for cars that cost up to 1000. Been looking at low insurance group cars such as your average 1.2 Puntos, Clios etc. Then tried off the wall things like 1.6/1.8 Vectras and Accords and all that, no joy. About to try some retro stuff such as old Fiestas and such, interestingly enough a Mk2 Golf 1.6 is cheaper to insure than a 1.0 Mk5 Polo

Remember it's mostly insurance against the risk you will damage someone else's property, rather than the car. Think of the insurance as covering you.

What would I need to change on a bog-standard '06/'07 Quattroporte to make it look like a late-model GT S? Would it be mainly the front and rear lights, grill, and rims?

I love old Top Gear, a lot more interesting than the new one I think. Funny seeing all the old cars in there as new models, I wish I was born 10 years earlier

I wish my 535i would do 140. sad.gif I was thundering down the road the other day and it would not go over 120. Though I was going uphill.

Yeah I really like old Top Gear, it had a lot more substance and objectivity. I am surprised none of these freeview/satellite channels that regurgitate old BBC content (e.g. Dave) have picked it up and shown it, being so old the royalties must be cheap and judging by Youtube viewing figures there's a market for it.

On another note, I read on PistonHeads that there is an old legend that the Peugeot 406 Coupe design was originally going to be a cheap Ferrari, before they decided against it. Does this sound legit? It's a Pininfarina design and it certainly looks the part.

Certainly looks stunning. Though spec-wise, it didn't look up to snuff enough to pass as a cheap Maser, much less a cheap Ferrari. Throw that body (though with the front wheels a bit further forward) on decent litle RWD chassis with a small V8 powering (ala Maserati 3200) and it certainly would have been quite the car in the mid 90's.

Would have been intresting to say the least.

I could actually see it with your modifications to the design, would it have succeeded though, don't know much about the French car market, but if I were able to I'd buy a used one, granted you don't see many Peugots in the United States.

The new Mercedes-Benz S-class looks brilliant. But the cockpit, I don't really like it that much, except the display which has a nice size.

It's a much nicer cockpit than the 7er though.

Looking at the big screen, it makes me wish you could have third-party GPS software (e.g. Garmin or TomTom) because the GPSs made by car companies suck, plus you need to use silly and expensive methods to update them.

It's unlikely to happen because of the ridiculous money they make when people tick the options list, plus what they make from those goofy sets of CDs for the maps, but it would be so much better.

I wouldnt think a car such as the new S class, which is now replacing also the Maybach, would have a really sh*tty GPS. But who knows.

There's just too much going on there for me. I miss the old one. The new pedestrian-safe forward grill thing that everyone is doing now is just something I can't get past yet.

True, much more "organized" if you will, I don't really like a lot of buttons, I find it to be very distracting.

I prefer lots of buttons like in the Bentley than having a menu i have to navigate through (a la iDrive). I find the on-screen menu more distracting. At least I know where the buttons I need are if they're there.

That screen in the new S-class is awesome, I don't really like the circular vents though, don't like the wood either but I imagine you can opt for a piano black finish or some other stuff like that, perhaps aluminium, whatever really, I'm not a big fan of wood unless it's in a Jaguar or something like that. That interior looks like it's trying to be old and classy on the lower half, yet the top half is futuristic, crisp and modern. I'd like to see one with black upholstery and some kind of piano black trim though

I always thought this trim in Jaguars was sick

Well, Ford Australia is dead. The Falcon will probably be killed off.

Guess the age old debate between Holden and Ford Oz has ended. Holden won.

Actually No, Both the Falcon and Commodore will end production in 2016, but Holden will continue to produce the Cruze and another Cruze Based Vehicle from that point on, while Ford wont manufacture anything here.

In this case no one wins as whichever team you go for it is a massive loss, but with the 2013-2014 update for both models not far off they will surely be going out with a Bang.

---EDIT

If we get some import with those badges on them it will be a sad day so the name plates might go on, but it wont be the same.

So I was browsing Jalopnik last night and I came across a video which absolutely captivated me.

It also led me to watch the other videos by Petrolicious and saw this:

How much would you have to have in the bank to realistically have what those guys have?

Dude's an architect (?), house is expensive. He also owns a GranTurismo. I believe he is netting north 500k USD per year. The 512BB is worth around 140k in the US (Lurch, correct me if I am wrong). The other dude bought a Lusso 10 years ago before they got a price hike. In that regard I suppose it is an excellent investment he did.

Seb, you could realistically own a 512 I think. A decent runner could probably be had here for 100k even. 140k would probably get you a better sorted, lower-mileage one. The Fiat-era Ferraris (even the 2 seat Berlinettas) never really hit atmospheric prices like the 60's and earlier cars.\

Lussos are big money these days though.
